Son of Norway princess charged with rape and sexual assault
The eldest son of Norway's crown princess was charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and bodily harm, on Friday, after ten months of investigation.
Marius Borg Hoiby is the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of the heir to the throne — Crown Prince Haakon. He was arrested several times in 2024 amid allegations of rape and preliminary charges of bodily harm.
Hoiby has faced scrutiny since and has been at the center of an investigation involving a "double-digit" number of victims.
"I cannot go into further detail about the number of victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a double-digit number," Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski said at a news conference.
He added that the charges include one case of rape involving intercourse, two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault and two cases of bodily harm.
The attorney said the evidence had been gathered from sources including text-messages, police searches and witness testimonies.
In an email to The Associated Press, Defense attorney Petar Sekulic said Hoiby was "taking the accusations very seriously, but doesn't acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases — especially the cases regarding sexual abuse and violence."
The Crown princess' eldest son is her child from a different relationship before she was married to Crown Prince Haakon.
Hoiby grew up with the privelege of the other royals but does not hold a formal title or have a public role.
After the initial allegations of bodily harm last year, Hoiby admitted to acts of violence directed towards his partner under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. In a statement to the public, he spoke of psychological problems and long-term drug abuse.

Father of suspect brings son to Leesburg police after fatal shooting
A man was fatally shot Friday evening in Leesburg and while investigators were at the scene the father of the suspect brought his son to the Police Department where he turned himself in. Kameryn A. Pickard, 18, of Mount Dora, was arrested on charges including premeditated murder, according to a news release from the Leesburg Police Department. He remains in the Lake County Jail without bond. Around 7 p.m. police responded to the 1000 block of Tuskegee Street in reference to a person who had been shot, the agency said. Upon arrival, officers and EMS personnel rendered aid to 20-year-old Dontae D. Copeland, of Leesburg, who was subsequently transported to UF Health Leesburg Hospital, the release stated. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. The agency said detectives and Leesburg Crime Scene investigators arrived at the scene to begin the investigation and process evidence. While they were there Pickard's father brought his son to the Police Department. Detectives conducted an interview with Pickard and subsequently arrested in, the release stated. Detectives are working with the State Attorney's Office to determine appropriate charges. Police said the crime scene remains active as detectives continue seeking witnesses, video surveillance and other evidence. Body recovered from Lake Michigan near 63rd Street Beach, police say
An investigation is underway after a body was pulled from Lake Michigan Saturday afternoon. Chicago police said the body was recovered just before 12:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Hayes Drive near 63rd Street beach. The victim, only described as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity was not released. The recovery comes one week after a person went missing in Lake Michigan near the 63rd Street beach, just one of four incidents that happened on the water last weekend. BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff denies 2023 sexual assault allegations in lawsuit response
BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff has denied allegations he sexually assaulted a woman in 2023, according to newly filed court documents. Retzlaff, 22, is being sued for alleged battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress from an alleged assault at Retzlaff's apartment in November 2023, according to a lawsuit filed in Utah last month. He has not been criminally charged. The woman, identified as Jane Doe A.G., claimed to have met the college football player on social media before agreeing to visit him at his apartment to play video games, ESPN reported. According to the complaint, the woman alleged she and Retzlaff began kissing, but he ignored her requests to stop and continued "escalating the situation." The original complaint alleged that after the alleged victim attempted to leave, Retzlaff put his hands around her neck and raped her, ESPN reported. In new filings Friday, Retzlaff denied the allegations and claimed the two had engaged in consensual sex. "Mr. Retzlaff specifically and categorically denies each and every and all allegations that he bit, raped or strangled [the woman], which are ridiculous and bizarre allegations, all of which are false and untrue," Retzlaff's attorneys wrote, via ESPN. Retzlaff's attorneys also accused the woman of extortion, claiming he did not hear from the woman for more than a year but has now because he is "an NFL Draft prospect," USA Today reported, citing Friday's filings. Retzlaff made the move from California to Utah in 2023 when he transferred to BYU. He led the Cougars to an 11-2 record last season.
