Joe Pantoliano's mental health crisis nearly destroyed his marriage

Perth Now7 days ago
The Sopranos star Joe Pantoliano has revealed his mental health crisis almost destroyed his marriage.
The 73-year-old actor - who played Ralph 'Ralphie' Cifaretto in the hit mobster drama - has confessed he was "a mess for a long time" and he made matters worse by self-medicating with alcohol which left his marriage to Nancy Sheppard on the brink of collapse.
He told New York Post column PageSix: "[I used] alcohol, what was available, women, you know, risky behaviour, act first and then ask questions second ...
"[I was] a mess for a long time ... My wife and my kids were ready to throw me out. The only people who were happy to see me weren't people. They were my dogs."
Joe went on to insist he believes his pets helped save him. He explained: '[The dogs] saved my life because it was the only spark that was left in me. I was like Tinkerbell and the light was dying."
The actor was eventually diagnosed with clinical depression in 2007 and managed to get his life back on track. He has since written two books on mental health and founded a charity called No Kidding, Me Too! to help eliminate the stigma surrounding such issues,
Joe recently declared he's been feeling "really uncomfortable" at home in the US since President Donald Trump took office for a second term last year.
He had previously revealed he's no fan of the reality TV star-turned-politician and accused him of glorifying the mobster characters in The Sopranos to justify bad behaviour,
Joe told The Independent newspaper: "What always upset me was that the majority of the audience didn't get the genius of [The Sopranos creator] David Chase, and what David Chase was saying about these monsters.
"[Mobster character] Tony Soprano becomes a hero, when he's a broken-down gangster and a murderer. Scumbags like Trump and Roger Stone, all these white-collar criminals, continue to be quoted as using The Godfather and The Sopranos as a blueprint for being douchebags! I mean, how f***** up is that?"

Why Prince William, Prince Harry won't inherit Princess Diana's childhood home

Prince William and Prince Harry will not be inheriting their late mother Princess Diana's childhood home. While the Princess of Wales left behind many possessions when she died in 1997, her Althorp property in Northamptonshire, was not one of them. The sprawling estate, which served as the backdrop for much of Diana's childhood, has belonged to the Spencer family since 1508, the New York Post reports. The late royal's father settled there in 1975 after becoming Earl Spencer. To date, the lavish home belongs to the current Earl Spencer, Diana's brother Charles. And once he dies, his son Louis, Viscount Althorp, will inherit the estate — meaning the ownership of the property will not reach the Prince of Wales, 43, or Duke of Sussex, 40. According to a years-long tradition of the Spencer family observing primogeniture, Lady Kitty, Lady Eliza, and Lady Amelia will not be inheriting the estate. Speaking in 2015 about the unwritten rule, Charles said that while he's 'totally relaxed' about Kitty inheriting the estate, he did note that 'it would be against all tradition.' 'It's just the way it is,' he told the Daily Mail at the time. 'I get the problems with it as a concept. I also get the strengths of it, having worked to date.' Later that year, Kitty said that while she's 'totally pro-gender equality,' she's 'quite happy' with the property becoming her younger brother's 'responsibility.' 'I just think it's the correct way,' she told Tatler. 'I like that the house stays within the same family, with the same surname. 'I wouldn't want it any other way for the Spencers. And I just know my brother is going to do an impeccable job.' The estate holds a significant meaning for the Spencer family, as it's also Diana's final resting place. The late princess is buried on a small island in the middle of its Oval Lake — which is not accessible to the public. Speaking about the chosen location, the beloved royal's brother previously said that the lake acts 'as a buffer against the interventions of the insane and ghoulish, the thick mud presenting a further line of defence.' The secluded location also means that William and Harry are able to visit their late mother's resting place without the fear of being seen. 'It is, luckily, very tranquil here, and [William and Harry] can come and go as they wish whenever they want. And that's very lovely for me to know that,' he added. In his 2023 memoir, 'Spare,' Harry opened up about visiting Diana's memorial with his wife, Meghan Markle. The Sussexes ventured out to Althorp to pay their respects to the late royal on the 25th anniversary of her death in August 2022. The Invictus Games founder said the duo took a boat across the lake and 'gazed around at Althorp's rolling fields and ancient trees, the thousands of green acres where my mother grew up, and where, though things weren't perfect, she'd known some peace.' 'At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum,' he added. Parts of this story first appeared in the New York Post and was republished with permission. Travis and Jason Kelce's dad Ed's girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, dead at 74

Ed Kelce's girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, has died. She was 74. According to an obituary the father of NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce shared on his Facebook page Saturday, Maguire 'passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.' 'Maureen found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved the beach—especially the shore—and had a deep affection for dogs,' the obituary read. Maguire also 'grew an unexpected love for football later in life, sharing many laughs and adventures with her beloved friend Ed Kelce and her loyal dog Butch.' 'Together, they traveled often and attended football games and concerts, and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest,' the obit added. 'She had a rare gift for making friends with strangers and making everyone around her feel special, seen, and welcomed. Her presence had a way of turning ordinary moments into something memorable. Her kindness, wit, and gentle strength left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.' Maguire is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and her sister and brother. Her cause of death was not disclosed. Maguire's private burial will take place at St. John Vianney Church in Gladwyne, Penn., on Aug. 7. Page Six has reached out to reps for both Jason and Travis for comment but did not immediately hear back. By clicking above you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Though not much is known about Ed's relationship with Maguire, in February 2024, the dad of two shared a funny interaction she had with Travis' girlfriend, Taylor Swift. While the 'Bad Blood' singer, 35, was posing for a picture with Ed, Maguire joked, 'Hey, that's my boyfriend,' to which Swift laughed. Ed, also 74, and his ex-wife, Donna Kelce, tied the knot in the late '70s. They welcomed sons Jason, 37, and Travis, also 35, in 1987 and 1989, respectively. They were married for nearly 25 years before deciding to end things after both of their sons graduated from college. Last October, Donna, 72, said she and Ed maintained a 'friendly relationship' until their split for the sake of their boys. 'We could do that and make sure that their life was normal as possible,' the retired banker explained in Glamour's 2024 Women of the Year: The Moms issue. 'But in that one respect, I did stand still for several years until I could move on on my own.' Originally published as Travis and Jason Kelce's dad Ed's girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, dead at 74

Tyra Banks makes shocking confession about ‘disgusting and erotic' addiction

Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News. Tyra Banks knows how to pick 'em. The supermodel revealed her 'disgusting and erotic' habit of popping pimples and picking dirt from other people's toes during Thursday's episode of US show Today With Jenna & Friends. 'I like to pick. I like the toe, and if it has some stuff in it, I don't mind digging it out,' Banks, who is co-hosting this week, told Jenna Bush Hager. 'But I have a kit. You have to have a kit. Some alcohol, you know. Some stuff!' Banks shocked with her "disgusting" addiction. Picture: Supplied When Bush Hager asked who she targets with these rituals, the America's Next Top Model alum admitted that anyone in her household is fair game, reports Page Six. 'Anyone that wants it — my mum, my friends, my man, my son,' Banks confessed, referencing her beau, Louis Bélanger-Martin. 'And then, a pimple? If you had a pimple, I would be staring at you.' Banks labelled her 'addiction' as 'disgusting and erotic at the same time,' explaining, 'It touches those parts of me.' Banks at a tennis event during the Australian Open in January. 'If somebody's like, 'Oh, can you check this?' I'm like, 'No … that's where I draw the line.' Chest up and knees down? It's on. I'm not popping and picking nothing [outside of] there.' The model further grossed out Bush Hager as she explained that her foot-focused obsession can get quite stinky at times. 'The toenail, because there's been stuff in there. The jam. The toe jam is up in the nail, and then you pick, and sometimes it's different colours. Sometimes it's brown, sometimes it's green,' she described. She's known for her glamorous appearance. Picture: Instagram. Banks has been romantically linked to Canadian businessman Bélanger-Martin since August 2018. In November 2019, we exclusively reported that the pair was taking the next step in their relationship by moving in together. 'Tyra and Louis live together but Louis always moves around a lot for business reasons,' an insider told us, adding that he and his ex-wife, Valérie Martin Scraire, have an apartment in England, a house in Barbados, and a home in Magog, Quebec. 'Louis also spends some time with his own child in England and around the world for business,' said the source. 'Tyra's child has his own room at Louis [and] Valerie's house in Magog and Tyra moved some of her stuff — clothes, jewellery — there too.'
