Guns N' Roses part ways with longtime drummer Frank Ferrer after 19 years

Express Tribune20-03-2025
Guns N' Roses have officially parted ways with drummer Frank Ferrer after nearly two decades together. The band confirmed the lineup change in a statement released on Wednesday (March 19), calling the departure amicable.
'Guns N' Roses announce the amicable exit of Frank Ferrer, the longest-serving drummer in their storied run,' the statement read. 'The band thanks Frank for his friendship, creativity and sturdy presence over the past 19 years, and they wish him success in the next chapter of his musical journey.'
Ferrer joined the band in 2006, replacing Bryan 'Brain' Mantia, who had been with the group since 2000. His tenure made him the longest-serving drummer in Guns N' Roses history, surpassing Steven Adler, who was behind the kit from 1990 to 1997.
His recording contributions began with five tracks on Chinese Democracy, the band's long-awaited 2008 album. He also appeared on the live portion of 2022's Hard Skool EP, while former drummer Brain played on the studio tracks, as well as Guns N' Roses' 2023 singles 'Perhaps' and 'The General.'
Ferrer's final performance with the band took place at Mexico's Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in November 2023, which remains Guns N' Roses' most recent live show.
The group is set to resume touring soon, kicking off their Because What You Want & What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things Tour in South Korea on May 1. The tour will continue through the Middle East and Europe, wrapping up with a July 31 show in Germany. No replacement for Ferrer has been announced.
Beyond his time with Guns N' Roses, Ferrer performed with The Beautiful and later joined future GNR bandmate Richard Fortus in both Love Spit Love and The Psychedelic Furs. In 2019, he co-founded the rock band PSSR, which has released several singles in recent years.

Former Guns N' Roses manager Alan Niven recalls challenges managing band

Former Guns N' Roses manager Alan Niven has shared his experiences working with the band, detailing early challenges and the band's behaviour during the 1980s. Niven, who has managed artists including Great White and Mötley Crüe, discusses his time with Guns N' Roses in his upcoming book, Sound N' Fury: Rock N' Roll Stories, which will be released on August 5. Niven explained how guitarist Slash persuaded him to take on the management role after he initially declined multiple times. 'No one wanted Guns N' Roses. They'd been through at least two other management situations,' Niven told the Daily Mail, describing the group as 'a nightmare.' He credited Slash for eventually convincing him, noting his intelligence and charm during their first meetings. Reflecting on the band's rise to fame, Niven described incidents such as being approached by fans while driving Slash around town, observing, 'Everybody knows you're famous before you do.' He shared memories of an early band meeting where Izzy Stradlin fell asleep at the table, leaving Niven alone with Slash, who then showed him a snake feeding on a rabbit in the bedroom. Niven also spoke about Axl Rose, describing him as a 'narcissist' and noting that fame 'amplified' Rose's personality. He recalled his departure from the band in 1991, which came via an unexpected phone call from Rose, stating, 'I never heard from him again.'

Axl Rose's Stage Wipeouts Featured in Guns N' Roses' Humorous Instagram Compilation

Guns N' Roses are embracing frontman Axl Rose's history of onstage missteps with humor, sharing a lighthearted compilation of his most memorable falls. Posted on the band's official Instagram account, the video montage showcases Rose's many tumbles throughout his decades-long career — all set to the backdrop of their iconic track, 'Welcome to the Jungle.' Titled 'Guns N' Roses Greatest Hits,' the one-minute video features clips dating back to the 1980s and highlights a series of onstage wipeouts. The footage shows Rose falling backward, face-first, and even walking straight off the stage. One of the more recent mishaps occurred during their concert in Mumbai over the weekend, when the 63-year-old singer tripped while sprinting up a staircase mid-performance of 'Sweet Child O' Mine.' That incident appears as the second clip in the reel. Fans and followers responded positively to the self-deprecating post, applauding the band's willingness to laugh at themselves — particularly Rose, who has remained at the helm of the group through countless tours and performances. The compilation coincides with the launch of Guns N' Roses' 'Because What You Want & What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things' World Tour. The band is set to perform across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East through the end of July. Select shows will feature special guests including Public Enemy, Rival Sons, and Sex Pistols. This tour also introduces drummer Isaac Carpenter, who joined the lineup earlier this year after replacing longtime member Frank Ferrer. 'Carpenter has made a name for himself by uniquely blending versatility and groove with crushing force and technical skill,' the band said in a statement, adding that being behind the drum kit may be the safest place when it comes to avoiding Rose-style stumbles.

Keith David and Kurt Russell make first public appearance together in 40 years for John Carpenter

Legendary horror and sci-fi director John Carpenter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 3, 2025 — and the ceremony turned into a nostalgic reunion. Appearing in public together for the first time in 40 years, Kurt Russell and Keith David, stars of Carpenter's iconic 1982 horror film The Thing, joined the celebration alongside special effects master Greg Nicotero. Nicotero praised Carpenter as a trailblazer who 'altered the way we watch movies.' He joked, 'Maybe now we'll finally find out if Kurt or Keith was The Thing.' David replied with a laugh, 'It wasn't me,' before honoring Carpenter for giving him his first film role and calling the experience 'beautiful.' Russell shared a behind-the-scenes story about the oversized sombrero he wore as R.J. MacReady in The Thing, recalling Carpenter's trademark confidence in the choice. 'He said, 'It's gonna be great, man.' And he was right.' Other attendees included PJ Soles, who posted photos with Nick Castle (Michael Myers in Halloween), and Carpenter's ex-wife Adrienne Barbeau, who shared a joyful moment with Slash of Guns N' Roses. Carpenter closed the event with his signature dry humor, saying, 'Thank you for this place on this sacred boulevard where people and dogs can pee on me at any time.' John Carpenter's star is now located at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
