Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) has surged to a new all-time high of $118,909 on Coinbase on Friday morning propelled by steady institutional buying, but analysts warn the rally could face pressure from geopolitical and inflation-driven uncertainties in the weeks ahead.
What Happened: The world's largest cryptocurrency jumped 6.3% in the last 24 hours, breaking out of the sideways trading pattern that has persisted for much of the past two months.
Stephen Wundke, Director of Strategy and Revenue at Algoz, pointed to the continued inflows into U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, amounting to $15 billion in net buying over the past two months, as a critical driver of upward momentum.

"Institutions have kept buying BTC ETFs," Wundke told Benzinga. "Traders who lack exposure are now trying to recover positions, forcing prices higher."
He added that dovish inflation signals globally and renewed corporate interest in adding Bitcoin to treasury holdings are fostering favorable conditions for further upside.
"History shows us when BTC breaks new highs and holds, there's been a circa 20% uplift in the next 60 days," he noted, predicting a short-term target of $125,000—provided inflation data from the U.S. remains benign.
Ajay Dhingra, Head of Research and Partnerships at Unizen, was more cautious. "Bitcoin's new all-time high comes during a rare moment of calm in global politics and trade," he said. However, Dhingra warned that upcoming macro data releases—particularly GDP and inflation figures—may reflect the impact of Middle East tensions and impending tariffs, potentially reigniting market volatility.
"This rally may not hold if that calm gives way to fresh volatility," he added.
The broader crypto market followed Bitcoin's lead.
Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) rose over 8% to top $3,000, while XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) gained 8% as well to surpass $2.60.
Market sentiment also received a lift from optimism around likely ETF approvals for altcoins like Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) and Ripple, both of which broke key trendlines in recent trading sessions.
What's Next: While enthusiasm is growing, experts caution that the sustainability of this rally hinges on upcoming macroeconomic events, particularly the U.S. inflation report due July 15 and the Bitcoin options expiry on July 25, two potential catalysts that could sway short-term market direction.

Dow futures sink as Trump keeps pushing tariffs while White House suggests Powell's job could be at risk

After Wall Street previously downplayed risks from President Donald Trump's trade war, investors are starting to take his tariff threats more seriously. U.S. stock futures fell on Sunday as Trump continued his letter-writing blitz, warning the EU and Mexico over the weekend that they face 30% tariffs unless they reach trade deals by Aug. 1. U.S. markets pointed lower on Sunday night as the Trump administration showed no signs of backing off on tariffs or Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. After Wall Street previously downplayed risks from President Donald Trump's trade war, investors are starting to take his tariff threats more seriously. Trump continued his letter-writing blitz, warning the EU and Mexico on Saturday that they face 30% tariffs unless they reach trade deals by Aug. 1. The EU said Sunday it will delay its retaliatory tariffs that were due to take effect on Monday to give negotiations with the U.S. more breathing room. Trump officials have also claimed Powell has mismanaged the Fed and point to renovations of the central bank's headquarters, with National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett even indicating that Powell's job could be at stake. When asked by ABC News if the renovation could be used as a reason to fire Powell, Hassett said, 'I think that whether the president decides to push down that road or not is going to depend a lot on the answers that we get to the questions that Russ Vought sent to the Fed.' He added that whether Trump has the authority to remove Powell is being explored, 'But certainly, if there's cause, he does.' Deutsche Bank said financial markets are underpricing the risk that he could be ousted. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 214 points, or 0.48%. S&P 500 futures were down 0.50%, and Nasdaq futures fell 0.55%. The yield on the 10-year Treasury edged down 0.6 basis point to 4.417%. Gold was flat at $3,364 per ounce, while the U.S. dollar was up 0.2% against the euro and down 0.12% against the yen. U.S. oil prices rose 0.58% to $68.85 per barrel, and Brent crude climbed 0.16% to $70.79. Key economic indicators are due in the coming week. The consumer price index will come out on Tuesday and the producer price index is due on Wednesday, offering fresh clues as to how much tariffs are impacting inflation. That comes as tariffs have yet to trigger a spike in prices, though many companies are still drawing down inventories that were stockpiled prior to the duties going into effect. Also on Wednesday, the Federal Reserve's beige book survey of business and economic conditions will be issued, while retail sales will be available on Thursday, and housing starts come out on Friday. Those datasets will also provide insights into how consumers and companies are responding to tariffs. Several Fed policymakers will speak this coming week amid intense pressure from the White House to lower interest rates. Earnings seasons get going in earnest over the coming week, with Wall Street eager to find out how much of the tariff are impacting margins. The top U.S. banks will report second-quarter results, starting with JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo on Tuesday. In the tech sector, streaming leader Netflix and chip giant TSMC report on Thursday. Among industrials, results from Alcoa, GE Aerospace and 3M are also due. On Thursday, Delta Air Lines beat earnings and revenue forecasts while also reinstating its 2025 profit outlook because demand had stabilized. YouTube Clarifies Changes to Monetization Rules Around Inauthentic Content

This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. After announcing a change to its monetization guidelines to disincentivize the posting of duplicate content, YouTube has now been forced to explain the change in more detail, as creators speculate on the potential impacts of the update. As you may be aware, YouTube recently announced an update to its enforcement of 'mass-produced' content, with improved detection measures now coming into effect. As per YouTube: 'In order to monetize as part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), YouTube has always required creators to upload 'original' and 'authentic' content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube is updating our guidelines to better identify mass-produced and repetitious content. This update better reflects what 'inauthentic' content looks like today.' So, here, it seems to suggest that YouTube is looking to enforce AI-generated rip-offs, and emerging processes in replicating content, though YouTube specifically says that the type of content it's aiming to crack down on is: 'Channels that upload narrative stories with only superficial differences between them [and] channels that upload slideshows that all have the same narration.' So, as it sounds, repetitive content, replicating almost exactly other videos already posted to the app with no significant change. Seems pretty straightforward, and nothing major to worry about. Indeed, YouTube has further explained that this is a 'minor update' to its longstanding YPP policies, in order to help better identify when content is mass-produced or repetitive. Yet, even so, speculation about the potential impacts, and what exactly 'mass-produced' and 'repetitive' means in this context, is running rife among creator communities. In response, YouTube has now shared further detail on the exact nature of the update, and what types of content will and won't be impacted as a result. As explained by YouTube's Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie, the main change is that 'repetitious' content is being renamed 'inauthentic' content in order to clarify that the policy includes content that's mass-produced or repetitive. The change does not impact re-used content, so you can still post content from other platforms, or re-post videos on YouTube, and it will remain eligible for monetization. 'All of [this type of content] can continue to be monetized if you've added significant original commentary, modifications, or educational or entertainment value to the original video.' The change also doesn't specifically relate to AI-generated content: 'YouTube welcomes creators using AI tools to enhance storytelling, and channels that use AI in their content remain eligible for monetization. YouTube provides AI tools to creators, including autodubbing, Dreamscreen, and more. Channels still have to follow YouTube's monetization policies, and creators are required to disclose when their realistic content is altered or synthetic.' But again, AI-generated content is also not the specific focus of this update, though it is worth noting that YouTube has been cracking down on channels that post fake, AI-generated movie trailers of late. So there has seemingly been some action on IP-violating AI content, and YouTube hasn't provided a heap of detail on a change in policy on that front as yet. But this update isn't it, and YouTube's keen to reiterate that the impact of this change will be minor, and is only focused on combating those who re-post exact replicas of existing content. Hopefully that helps to clarify the update. Sign in to access your portfolio
