Saudi Arabia pledges $25 billion investments and opening more embassies in Africa
RIYADH — Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid Al-Khereiji revealed that his country intends to increase the number of its embassies in African countries to more than 40 over the coming years. He also expressed Saudi Arabia's aspiration to invest $25 billion in Africa. Al-Kheraiji made the remarks while attending a reception marking the annual Africa Day commemoration, held at the Culture Palace in the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh.
Al-Kheraiji stated that Saudi Arabia will finance and secure $10 billion in exports to Africa and provide $5 billion in additional development financing to Africa by 2030. "Saudi Arabia also affirms its commitment to developing cooperation and partnerships with African countries, expanding trade and integration, and enhancing consultation, coordination, and mutual support within international organizations on issues of common interest," he said.
Al-Khereiji explained that African countries occupy a significant position on the country's foreign policy map and diplomatic network. "Saudi Arabia has provided more than $45 billion to support development and humanitarian projects in 54 African countries," he said while noting that the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has provided more than $450 million in aid to 46 African countries.
The deputy minister emphasized that Africa is a continent of promising opportunities, with its natural resources, ambitious youth, and renewable potential. "Despite the challenges of conflict and climate change, the spirit of African cooperation and the aspirations of the continent's people for peace, justice, and development remain stronger than any challenge," he added.

Abdelatty indicated that Egypt looks forward to hosting the international conference for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza following a ceasefire. HR Ministry: Saudization instrumental in employing 2.5 million citizens in private sector

The ministry said that the Human Resources Development Fund (HADAF) supported this growth by employing 143,000 Saudi citizens during the first quarter of 2025, while the money spent on training, empowerment, and guidance programs amounted to approximately SR1.83 billion. The ministry indicated that the unemployment rate among Saudis dropped to its lowest level, since the beginning of statistical monitoring, reaching 6.3 percent, and this reflects the cumulative impact of national programs and initiatives aimed at developing the labor market and empowering national cadres. The ministry noted that this progress is a continuation of the development path the Kingdom is witnessing in various fields. It previously exceeded the 7 percent target of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, six years early, and is confidently moving towards the new 5 percent target, in light of the directives and updates recently announced. The ministry noted the record levels of Saudi women's participation in the labor market, with their unemployment rate falling to 10.5 percent—a historic low—compared to 11.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024, representing an annual decrease of 3.7 percentage points compared to the same period last year. This confirms the impact of programs and initiatives that include women's economic empowerment, providing a stimulating and safe work environment, and enhancing their ability to effectively contribute to national growth. The ministry added that these results embody the impact of the National Labor Market Strategy, adopted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, which aims to develop policies and regulations, empower the national workforce, and strengthen partnerships with the private sector and relevant entities.

Hotel occupancy in Saudi Arabia rises to 63% as tourism workforce tops 983,000 in Q1 2025
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's hotel room occupancy rate rose to 63% in the first quarter of 2025, up 2.1 percentage points from the same period in 2024, according to the Tourism Establishments Statistics Publication released by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). In contrast, the occupancy rate for serviced apartments and other hospitality facilities dropped to 50.7%, down 3.8 percentage points compared to Q1 2024. The report also showed a mixed trend in room pricing. The average daily room rate in hotels fell by 3.4% year-on-year, reaching SR477, while serviced apartments and similar facilities saw an increase of 7.2%, bringing the average rate to SR209. Regarding guest behavior, the average length of stay in hotels during the fourth quarter of 2024 remained unchanged at 4.1 nights. However, the average stay in serviced apartments and other hospitality facilities decreased by 4.5% to 2.1 nights. Tourism employment saw a notable uptick, with 983,253 individuals working in tourism-related activities during Q1 of 2025, reflecting a 4.1% increase compared to the same quarter last year. Of the total, 243,369 were Saudi nationals, representing 24.8% of the workforce, while non-Saudis made up the remaining 75.2% with 739,884 employees. Men accounted for 86.8% of all workers in the tourism sector, totaling 853,852, while women represented 13.2% or 129,401 employees. The tourism sector comprised 5.4% of the total national workforce in Q1 of 2025, a slight decrease of 0.3 percentage points compared to Q1 of 2024. In the private sector, tourism employees made up 8.1% of the workforce, down 0.6 percentage points year-on-year.
