Tawau man nabbed for sexually assaulting, flashing teen walking home from school
The incident occurred when the teenage victim was walking home from school and was approached by the suspect driving a four-wheel drive vehicle.
According to Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin, the suspect initially asked the victim for directions before engaging in indecent behaviour and exposing himself.
The shocked victim immediately fled to a nearby residential area to escape from the suspect.
Concerned for her safety, the victim later went to the nearest police station to file a report about the incident.
A police team from the Bombalai Police Station was deployed to track down and arrest the suspect following the report.
The 30-year-old man was successfully apprehended at a house in the Merotai area of Tawau, with no illegal items found during a body search.
The suspect and the seized four-wheel drive vehicle have been brought to the Tawau IPD for further investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792).

Man disappears after foraging trip near Miri — search enters second day
MIRI, Aug 3 — A search-and-rescue (SAR) operation resumed today for a 44-year-old man reported missing while foraging for jungle vegetables along the bypass road near the Miri Bus Terminal Station last Friday. Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the family of the victim, Udil Lutan, filed a missing person report on Saturday after he failed to return home. 'According to the report, Udil had contacted a family member at around 8.30pm on Friday asking to be picked up at a location. 'However, when the family member arrived at the said location, the victim was nowhere to be found despite a search of the area,' he said. Mohd Farhan said a search on Saturday failed to locate Udil and was postponed in the evening before being resumed at 8am today. Apart from the police, personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force, as well as Udil's family are also involved in the SAR, he added. Two Malaysians die in separate incidents in Thailand's Yala province: One collapses at bike event, one in road crash
YALA, Aug 3 — The Malaysian Consulate General in Songkhla has confirmed that two Malaysian citizens have died in Yala province yesterday in two separate incidents. According to a consular statement, the first case involved a 56-year-old Malaysian male from Kedah who died in Betong, while the second case involved a 47-year-old male from Penang who died in an accident in Yaha district. Chief Investigation Officer of Betong Police, Inspector Pornchai Shunual, informed that the 56-year-old victim entered Betong with his wife on Aug 1 to take part in a programme called 'OK BETONG Bike Week'. 'According to his wife, the victim collapsed in a toilet during a rest break and was unconscious before being rushed to Betong Hospital, but was pronounced dead about half an hour later,' he told reporters here, today. A post-mortem by the hospital has confirmed that the victim had died suddenly and no foul play was detected. The Thai Royal Police allowed the deceased's next-of-kin to claim his body to be returned to Kulim with help from the Malaysian Consulate General in Songkhla. Meanwhile, in the second case, the Malaysian Consulate General reported that the Malaysian man died when a superbike he was riding was believed to have collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle belonging to a local in Yala district, yesterday evening. The victim reportedly sustained serious injuries in the head. His remains have been brought from Yaha Hospital to Sadao Hospital, Songkhla, for temporary storage before claiming by his next-of-kin to be returned to Penang. — Bernama

PM wants swift, transparent probe into Zara Qairina's death
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim KOTA KINABALU (Aug 3): The death of student Zara Qairina Mahathir has drawn the attention of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who stressed that investigations must be conducted transparently and thoroughly. The prime minister said he had discussed the matter with Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ensure the probe is conducted swiftly and comprehensively. 'There was a death recently, and the Education Minister (Fadhlina Sidek) is being attacked and accused of various things. What has become of our country? This death is not a trivial matter,' he said during his speech at the closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day 2025 here today. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.
