Nishu Khan: The silent conspirator in gangster murder case

Patna: Partially paralysed, with a criminal past, 28-year-old Nishu Khan might not look like a typical gangland operative. But behind the veil of physical infirmity lies a man who, according to police, played a crucial backstage role in the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra inside city's private hospital on July 17. Khan, a resident of Samanpura in Patna and a cousin of the main shooter Tauseef, was arrested from a guest house in Kolkata's Anandapur area on Saturday, just two days after the murder, during a joint operation by Bihar and Kolkata Police. He was detained alongside Tauseef, Harsh Kumar and Bhim Kumar. Despite being partially paralysed due to a previous gunshot injury, Khan is alleged to have been an active conspirator. Police sources say his Samanpura residence served as the planning hub for the execution of the murder. Located just a short distance from the hospital, the house was strategically chosen to enable close monitoring and repeated reconnaissance of the hospital premises. According to the investigation, the killing was orchestrated by jailed gangster Sheru Singh—currently lodged in Purulia Jail—who allegedly promised shooter Tauseef Rs 10 lakh for the killing. The group of assassins, including Tauseef, Monu Singh, Balwant Singh, Abhishek, and Nilesh, used Khan's house as a base of operations in the days leading up to the crime. "CCTV footage shows the shooters assembling at Nishu Khan's residence before the murder. His role in offering shelter, arranging logistics, and facilitating movement has been confirmed," said Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma, adding that Khan was an integral part of the conspiracy. Sources further claim that Khan helped arrange weapons and motorcycles for the shooters, making logistical preparations. Khan's criminal background includes cases under the Arms Act, attempt to murder, and extortion, registered at Shastrinagar and other police stations. His exact educational background and professional history are still under investigation.
