Siraj accused of unsportsmanlike conduct after aggressive celebration vs Duckett; Nasser Hussain defends Indian pacer
Indian cricket team bowlers have made a fiery start to Day 4 of the Lord's Test on Sunday. Mohammed Siraj is leading India's effort by picking the first two wickets of the day as he dismissed England opener Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope. Since the spat between Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley on Saturday evening, Siraj has been fired up and he channeled that energy into his celebration after dismissing Duckett.

With the pitch being pretty placid so far, there's a need for India to bowl out England as soon as possible to force a result in the third Test and take a 2-1 lead. The start on Day 4 was made by Siraj as Duckett got out playing a pull shot.
Siraj shows strong emotions as fans celebrate
The catch was taken at mid-on by Bumrah as Duckett failed to time his pull shot. What followed was some aggressive in-your-face celebration by Siraj while Duckett gave him a shoulder barge, showing his frustration.
The video of Siraj giving Duckett a send-off is going viral on social media as Indian cricket team fans celebrated the dismissal and the aggressive celebration.
'DSP SIRAJ RIGHT IN THE FACE OF BEN DUCKETT,' a fan wrote on X, celebrating the wicket.
Another fan said: 'MOHAMMED SIRAJ MIYAAN REMOVES BEN DUCKETT. WHAT A START. AGGRESSIVE MIYAN CELEBRATION.'
Siraj accused of unsportsmanlike conduct
Some English fans, however, were not happy as they accused Siraj of Unsportsmanlike conduct.
'Siraj gets the wicket of Duckett, but that celebration was unacceptable. Charging in the batter's face with shoulder contact crosses the line. Passion is fine — intimidation isn't. Umpires should step in,' a fan from Manchester wrote.

Another England cricket team fan said: 'Siraj's in the face screaming and being vocal against Duckett was indefensible It was sheer unsportsmanship and DISGUSTING This was not cricket No never Siraj must be heavily fined and Gill needs to speak firmly to Siraj now to stop this type of act.'
Former England captain Nasser Hussain, however, defended Siraj on commentary as he pointed out that it was Duckett who was at fault while colliding with the pacer.

Will Bumrah play in the Manchester Test? Gill says, 'you will know soon'
With India falling painfully short in their chase at Lord's, attention quickly turned to the availability of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth Test in Manchester, starting July 23. Asked about Bumrah's possible return during the post-match presentation, captain Shubman Gill kept his cards close to the chest. 'You'll get to know soon,' Gill replied, without confirming whether the India's premier fast bowler would feature at Old Trafford. Gill on India's Playing 11 for 4th Test While talking to media persons after the Lord's Test, Gill talked about the playing 11 for the 4th said. "I have settled 12 players. Will decide on the playing 11 for Manchester Test after seeing the conditions," India captain said. Gill also gave an update on Rishabh Pant's injury. He said," Pant went for scans and he is likely to be fit for the 4th Test at the Old Trafford." Gill reflects on Lord's heartbreak Describing the match as 'as close as Test cricket gets,' Gill expressed pride in India's fightback but admitted the top-order failure on the final morning proved decisive. 'We were quite confident this morning. There was still a lot of batting left. We just needed one or two partnerships at the top, but unfortunately, we couldn't stitch them together. Credit to England—they played better than us,' he said. With a modest 193-run target to chase on a tricky Lord's pitch, Gill said the team always believed they were one stand away from turning the match. 'The target wasn't massive. One good partnership and we would've been right back in it. Jaddu (Jadeja) is very experienced. There were no messages—just wanted him and the tail to keep batting.' Key moments and regrets Gill pointed to Rishabh Pant's run-out and India's failure to secure a first-innings lead as pivotal moments. 'A lead in the first innings would have been crucial for us,' he admitted. He also reflected on how the match slipped away in the final moments of Day 4 and early on Day 5. 'Things turned quickly. In the last hour yesterday, we could've applied ourselves better. This morning, they came with clear plans. The series scoreline doesn't quite reflect how we've played.'

'Unfortunate...Needless Aggression': Netizens Reflect On India's Nail-Biting Loss To England
Last Updated: England won by 22 runs against India at Lord's, leading 2-1 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, despite efforts from Jadeja, Bumrah, and Siraj. All talk, no show. When the pressure mounted on the Indians, despite a spirited fight, they folded when it mattered the most, as England sealed a thrilling 22-run win at Lord's on Sunday to take the 2-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. It was a painful Day 5 for India, who saw their batting order crumble yet again, in painful fashion. Jadeja put up a valiant fight, hitting a memorable unbeaten half-century while farming the strike with no. 10 Jasprit Bumrah and no. 11 Mohammed Siraj to keep India's hopes alive after a batting collapse. Together, Bumrah and Siraj faced 84 deliveries between them and scored 9 runs to keep England on the tenterhooks before Shoaib Bashir, with an injured hand, landed the final blow: a ball that was defended, slowly rolling its way onto the stumps to dislodge the bails slowly (along with India's hopes). The bonkers ending lefts fans and followers completely frazzled, with many hailing the efforts of Jadeja, Bumrah and Siraj, while also reflecting on the heartbreak for India. Mahn, how saddening is this. How unfortunate. How unlucky. Who would have thought?!Mohammed Siraj has done more than what he had to do. This 3rd Test Match was something else that happened at Lord's! One Hell of a Match. One to be remembered. Jaddu our Superstar! #INDvsENG — Jonah Abraham 😷 (@JonahAbraham26) July 14, 2025 Some criticised the now-seemingly 'over aggressive' attitude that Gill and co. approached the match with. ' That has to be karma. Siraj shouting in England players faces full of aggression and he plays on in a soft way to lose the match 🤫. Mind you class from England players, I would have been shouting in his face at the end. Shame on me 😳. Great game from both teams proper test 👏👏— Stan25 (@StanX202) July 14, 2025 and excruciatingly painful when you lose a match like India did today. If we, the fans, feel exhausted, imagine what players go through. Players like Siraj and Jadeja who were there at the end. Man! Sports is cruel yet the most satisfying thing. And cricket is absolute bonkers.— ѕнαηкѕρєαяє™ (@Goofyshanks) July 14, 2025 After resuming the day at 58/4, India suffered an early blow when Jofra Archer angled one to skip past the defense of Rishabh Pant (9) to have his off stump uprooted. Ben Stokes then trapped KL Rahul LBW on 39 after England overturned the not-out decision upon review. Washington Sundar lasted four deliveries as he was sent back for a duck by Archer, leaving India's innings in tatters at 82/7 with the tourists still needing 111 runs to win. A partnership between Jadeja and Nitish Reddy reignited India's faint hopes. The two dealt with pumped-up England bowlers admirably to ride the storm. However, on the brink of lunch, Reddy lost focus as Chris Woakes had him caught-behind for 13 to break the 30-run partnership. That brought no. 10 Jasprit Bumrah into the middle, and he dropped anchor, offering a stern resistance in the company of Jadeja. The second session could've been India's but for a moment of impatience from Bumrah (5 off 54) as he went for the glory shot only to become Stokes' third victim of the contest. Siraj's downfall marked a historic win for England — who secured the narrowest victory at the Lord's ever to take the 2-1 lead in the series. The 4th Test shall commence at Manchester from July 23. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Ravindra Jadeja: The only Mr consistent of Tests in Gautam Gambhir era
The Indian cricket team is currently navigating one of its most challenging phases in recent red-ball history. In their last 13 completed Tests, India have managed to win just four matches, draw one, and suffer eight defeats. This difficult stretch includes a shocking 0–3 whitewash at home against New Zealand—a first in over a decade—and a 1–3 defeat to Australia that saw them relinquish the Border–Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in ten years. These results have come under the new leadership of head coach Gautam Gambhir, who took over the reins from Rahul Dravid in 2024. Gambhir's red-ball strategy has revolved heavily around the inclusion of multiple all-rounders—a ploy designed to deepen the batting line-up and offer more bowling options. While this tactic worked wonders in white-ball formats, with India even clinching the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, its translation into Test cricket has been far less convincing. In a team still trying to find the right balance and rhythm under a new coaching philosophy, Jadeja's consistency—even if not always spectacular—has offered a much-needed sense of stability. While the larger experiment of relying on all-rounders is yet to find its feet in Test cricket, Ravindra Jadeja continues to quietly remind the cricketing world why he's among the finest red-ball all-rounders of his generation. But how has Jadeja fared in numbers so far in the Gautam Gambhir era? Take a look. India vs Bangladesh 2024: Strong Start to Gambhir Era Gambhir's first assignment as Test coach saw India hosting Bangladesh, where Jadeja underlined his all-round pedigree. In the first Test, when India's top order crumbled, it was Jadeja's composed 86 that helped resurrect the innings alongside Ashwin. With the ball, he added further value by taking five wickets, playing a crucial role in India's comfortable win. Though his bat didn't speak loudly in the second Test (8 runs), he still contributed with the ball—four wickets—to seal the series 2–0. If not dominant in both roles at once, Jadeja still ensured impact in every game. India vs New Zealand 2024: Lone Spark in a Tough Series In a series India would rather forget—losing 0–3 at home—Jadeja still stood up when needed. While he had a quiet first Test (5 runs, 3 wickets), he bounced back in the second with a solid 80-run effort and three wickets, showcasing his value even when others failed. The third Test was arguably his best of the series—10 wickets in the match. His batting contribution was minimal (20 runs), but Jadeja's bowling was instrumental in keeping India competitive. Though the team faltered, Jadeja remained a pillar of contribution, especially with the ball. Australia vs India 2024–25: Adjusting Roles, Adapting Quickly Jadeja missed the first two Tests but returned in the third and made an immediate statement with the bat—a fluent 77-run knock that helped India post a strong total. Even though he couldn't claim a wicket, he contributed as a batter with patience and intent. In the fourth Test, Jadeja was India's best bowler, bagging four wickets, though he scored just 19 runs. The fifth Test was a rare complete off-game for him—no wickets, 39 runs—but across the series, Jadeja showed the ability to respond to specific match demands, whether with bat or ball. England vs India 2025: Jadeja Leads with the Bat in Transition Phase With India entering a new era post the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Jadeja remained a vital cog. In the first Test against England, he managed only 36 runs and a solitary wicket, but the second Test saw him step up significantly with the bat—89 in the first innings and 69 in the second. While he just took one wicket, his 158-run match tally was a crucial reason why India registered their first-ever win at Edgbaston. In the third Test again, Jadeja contributed heavily with the bat, scoring 72 runs in the first innings and 61 not out runs in the second. He only took one wicket, but again he was there for India—at least in one role, if not both—as an all-rounder, cementing his position as Mr Consistent. Overall Performance of Indian All-rounders Under Gambhir Now coming to overall stats for all-rounders in Gambhir era , Jadeja—with 661 runs and 31 wickets—has justified his position as an all-rounder. Sundar took 23 wickets in seven matches, including 11 in his first match, and scored only 290 runs, while Reddy, in a similar number of matches, scored only 334, including a 114-run innings, but has only six wickets to his name. Now-retired Ashwin, in six matches, took 22 wickets but scored just 197 runs despite starting with a 113-run innings, while Thakur, in the only game he played, took only two wickets and scored five runs. This data proves that, if we take the overall numbers into account, Jadeja still looks far better than any other player in the same role for the team. Mix his performance with experience and his exceptional skills as a fielder, and Jadeja is currently the most needed player in the side. India will rely heavily on him to pass through the ongoing transition period.
