RANAU: More than 500 residents in the three villages here finally received their land titles applied for through the Land and Survey Department's (JTU) Pantas programme. The land titles were distributed by the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir during the Kg Narawang, Kg Waluhu and Kg Lutut Pantas Programme Land Title handover ceremony at Mini Dewan Kg Narawang on Monday.
Advertisement Abidin said 396 land titles were submitted at the event, while another 148 would be submitted next month after all the process is complete. 'We gather here because we have a significant event for the three villages. We know that this land has long been occupied by the villagers but legal ownership has not been obtained due to the difficulty of obtaining land titles. 'Finally, today the dream of the people to get a land title can be realised. We want to express our gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as his initiative for holding this Pantas programme throughout the state,' he said. Abidin, who is also Paginatan Assemblyman, also thanked JTU for its commitment to implement a significant government programme for the people. He said the next Pantas programme would be in Suminimpod Mukim as well as in the Tinanom, Kodop and Kigiwit. For Kg Bongkud and Namaus, he said, the approval of the Pantas programme was already obtained, and is only waiting for the allocation to be issued. 'Congratulations to all the recipients of the land titles. Hopefully, they can be passed down to our grandchildren as this is the most precious treasure. 'As Paginatan wakil rakyat, I urge all residents of the three villages to continue supporting Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) on the basis of the commitment and continued efforts of the government to prosper the people's lives. 'The government should be supported for the sake of development programmes through the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan (SMJ),' he said. Meanwhile, JTU representative, Saat Durasit said the department's initial target was to issue only 500 land titles through Pantas but after entering the field, it has successfully completed the land marking of about 600 land titles. 'Pantas measurement is very popular. In the Ranau parliamentary constituency, all state constituencies have their own Pantas programme but the most active is in Paginatan. 'We congratulate Datuk Abidin because he really worked hard to support this Pantas programme. JTU will always implement this programme as long as the government's allocation is still available,' he said. Village Head Nahur Masipah, representing the three villages, thanked Abidin because for his hard work, the villagers could now confirm land ownership after receiving the land titles. 'Thanks also to JTU for realising our dream of having a land title to the land we have long been working on. 'This is a history for us in Kg Narawang, Kg Lutut and Kg Waluhu for receiving a large number of land titles. This historic day has changed our lives for the better,' he said. Also present were Assistant Director of JTU Nurul Ikshan Bin Ibrahim, Assistant District Officer Florencia Padasian, District Head OKK Muhasip Hj Rauman, PPHT Ranau Jaidi Gulis, PPM Hishamudin Harun, Special Officer to Datuk Abidin Madingkir, Juis Konsuling, CDO Jipili Sigal and village leaders. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Shahelmey stresses grassroots role in Sabah Maju Jaya plan success

Published on: Monday, June 30, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 30, 2025 Text Size: 'This is to ensure that any problems can be brought forward for resolution, and it highlights the importance of two-way engagement between the people and responsible authorities on the ground,' Shahelmey said. PUTATAN: The people have been urged to continue serving as the 'eyes and ears' of the State Government in realising the goals of governance and ensuring socio-economic balance across Sabah. Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said a holistic partnership between grassroots communities and the government was vital, particularly in the ongoing implementation of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan. 'Whatever issues arise in your respective areas, I encourage the community to stay in close communication with agencies such as UPPM, JPKK, JKDM and others. 'This is to ensure that any problems can be brought forward for resolution, and it highlights the importance of two-way engagement between the people and responsible authorities on the ground,' he said. Shahelmey, who is also the Tanjung Keramat Assemblyman, was speaking at the launch of the Semangat Madani Tanjung Keramat programme held at Dewan Serbaguna Muhibbah in Taman Jumbo, here, Saturday. Earlier, the community-focused programme saw the participation of over 100 residents from various age groups who took part in a range of activities. Among the highlights were a neighbourhood gotong-royong (communal clean-up) and a colouring competition for children in the area. Commenting on the event, Shahelmey said the active involvement of the local community reflected growing awareness of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and safety in their surroundings. 'With initiatives like this, participants not only strengthen community bonds but also build greater awareness about keeping the environment clean, safe and harmonious. 'This aligns well with the State Government's call for unity among all levels of society in order to foster more resilient and competitive communities in the future,' he added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Langom research station a plus for conservation

Published on: Thursday, June 26, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jun 26, 2025 Text Size: Langom Control Centre and Research Station. LAHAD DATU: The newly-opened Langom Control Centre and Research Station at the Danum Valley Conservation Area stands as testament to Sabah's commitment to biodiversity conservation and research excellence. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said this initiative, spearheaded by Yayasan Sabah in collaboration with the State Forestry Department, aligns perfectly with creating a conducive research environment while ensuring sustainable forest management. 'I wish to reiterate the State Government's full support to conservation and research efforts such as this,' Hajiji said during the facility's opening ceremony, with his speech delivered by Deputy Chief Minister cum Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya. Hajiji expressed confidence that with multi-stakeholder support, including from the Federal Government, conservation areas like Danum Valley and the entire DaMaI (Danum Valley, Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon) Rainforest Landscape would continue serving as global biodiversity treasures while functioning as premier research, education and conservation centres. The RM5.6 million facility was funded by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability under the 12th Malaysia Plan, supporting the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan's environmental conservation and sustainable development objectives. 'This initiative reflects the State Government's commitment to balance economic development with conservation of natural resources for the long-term prosperity of the people and future generations,' Hajiji said. He praised Yayasan Sabah for its outstanding stewardship of Danum Valley and similar conservation areas, noting that the organisation has elevated Sabah's international profile as a model of transparent and visionary conservation management. Strategically positioned within the Ulu Segama-Malua Forest Reserve between the Netherlands' Face The Future project site (INFAPRO) and the Danum Valley Studies Centre, the research station operates under the Sabah Forestry Department's Management Committee with Universiti Malaysia Sabah involvement. Hajiji pointed out the significance of the location, saying the surrounding restored forest demonstrates successful conservation efforts. 'Many are unaware that the forest we passed through today is a restored forest, the result of years of dedicated effort. This proves that forest restoration can succeed with vision and commitment,' he said. The facility will also serve educational purposes, supporting environmental programs conducted by the Sabah Nature Club, which has adopted several Lahad Datu schools under Yayasan Sabah Group supervision. Looking ahead, Hajiji called for increased Federal Government support, particularly through the National Conservation Trust Fund for Natural Resources and the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan. He reaffirmed Sabah's commitment to implementing green sustainability development programs that prioritise responsible natural resource management while ensuring environmental protection, social well-being and economic growth for future generations. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Langom Research Station Reflects State Govt's Commitment To Biodiversity Conservation

LAHAD DATU, June 24 (Bernama) -- The opening of the Langom Control Centre and Research Station in the Danum Valley Conservation Area reflects the Sabah government's commitment to biodiversity conservation and research, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He said the initiative by Yayasan Sabah, in collaboration with the State Forestry Department, was in line with efforts to create a conducive research environment while ensuring sustainable forest management. 'Therefore, I would like to reiterate the state government's full support for such conservation and research efforts. 'I sincerely hope the Federal Government will consider providing greater support, particularly through continued funding under the National Conservation Trust Fund for Natural Resources (NCTF) and in the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan,' he said when officiating the centre here today. His speech text was read out by Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who is also the State Public Works Minister. Hajiji said the establishment of the centre, through an allocation of RM5.6 million from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability under the 12th Malaysia Plan, was in line with the thrust of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan, particularly in environmental conservation and sustainable development. He expressed confidence that with support from all parties, including the federal government, conservation areas such as the Danum Valley and the entire DaMaI Rainforest Landscape (comprising the Danum Valley, Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon) would continue to be preserved as global biodiversity treasures and serve as premier centres for research, education and conservation in the country. He also commended Yayasan Sabah for its outstanding achievements in managing and preserving the Danum Valley Conservation Area and other similar sites, which have played a key role in protecting forest reserves while elevating Sabah's name on the international stage. Hajiji said the research station, established in the Ulu Segama-Malua Forest Reserve under the Sabah Forestry Department Management Committee and involving Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), is strategically located between the Innoprise Face the Future Project area and the Danum Valley Learning Centre.
