The ASX 200 has zig-zagged on Friday after US President Donald Trump revealed he is considering blanket 15-20 per cent blanket tariffs. The index rose 0.3 per cent before undoing its gain in the first hour of trading on Friday and sits around its Thursday closing price. Despite the bourse see-sawing, the materials sector has soared with critical minerals producer Iluka Resources jumping 25 per cent, Lynas Rare Earths rising 17 per cent and Mineral Resources adding six per cent. Trump rocked the ASX when he told NBC News countries that have not yet received a tariff letter will likely face blanket levies higher than the initially announced 10 per cent. 'Not everybody has to get a letter. You know that. We're just setting our tariffs,' Trump said in the interview. 'We're just going to say all of the remaining countries are going to pay, whether it's 20 per cent or 15 per cent. We'll work that out now.' Donald Trump also lauded the rise of chip maker Nvidia which reset its US$4t market cap before demanding the US Federal Reserve lower interest rates. 'NVIDIA IS UP 47 per cent SINCE TRUMP TARIFFS. USA is taking in Hundreds of Billions of Dollars in Tariffs,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. 'COUNTRY IS NOW 'BACK'. A GREAT CREDIT! FED SHOULD RAPIDLY LOWER RATE TO REFLECT THIS STRENGTH. USA SHOULD BE AT THE 'TOP OF THE LIST.' NO INFLATION!!!' He also revealed a 35 per cent tariff on Canada and blamed the flow of fentanyl for the hefty levy. 'As you will recall, the United States imposed Tariffs on Canada to deal with out Nation's Fentanyl crisis, which is caused, in part, by Canada's failure to stop the drugs from pouring into our Country,' Trump wrote in a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Bitcoin has also surged about 3.4 per cent, setting another record high as investors continue to rally behind the cryptocurrency. On Wall Street, the S&P 500 added 0.3 per cent, the Dow Jones rose 0.4 per cent and the Nasdaq added 0.1 per cent. London's FTSE 250 Index jumped 0.6 per cent on Thursday, Germany's DAX shed 0.4 per cent while the STOXX Europe 600 rose 0.5 per cent. New Zealand's NZX 50 index lost 0.1 per cent since it began trading on Friday, while Japan's Nikkei 225 is up 0.1 per cent,
