Nova Esports are the champions of the first MY Honor of Kings League!
Fiery grand finals showdown
The Grand Finals saw Nova Esports clash in a best-of-seven against Black Shrew Esport, and in a surprising turn of events, both teams almost chose the same hero matchups in the Ultimate Battle.
In a best-of-seven Match series, the Ultimate Battle will commence if the Match is tied 3-3 after Game 6. Players must choose the same hero and use the challenger spells submitted during Game 7 in a Normal 5v5 mode with no Bans, and coaches are placed under a tight time restriction to choose their hero lineup. In the leadup before the Ultimate Battle, the Global Ban&Pick format was applied to ensure that each hero could only be selected once per match series by each team, with a total of four bans per game.
Nova Esports was the mightier squad and came prepared. NOVA. Xuan's skillful use of Dharma landed him the FVMP title, and the team emerged with the final score of 4-3.
'This is a momentous step for us as we mark history as the first local champions,' stated Nicholas 'NOVA. Xuan' Ng, 'This win is dedicated to all of our supporters who have stood steadfast by us, and we hope to make them proud once again at KWC 2025.' Nova Esports and Black Shrew Esport will turn the heat up once again at KWC 2025, along with AG Global.

#SHOWBIZ: Dharma Harun's son disappointed, offered indecent work for RM1k
PETALING JAYA: The second son of veteran actor Dharma Harun, Muhammad Al Syafiq, 36, revealed he once considered dropping out of the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara) to find stable employment. However, Syafiq said he abandoned that idea because he was unwilling to work with only his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) qualifications, and also due to moral support from various parties urging him to complete his studies. "Honestly, I thought about quitting my studies many times. But the dean, lecturers, and everyone else told me the same thing. They said I was different, that there was value in being at Aswara, which made me hesitate to quit. "My friends also told me it would only take a short while more, and if I quit, I'd be earning an SPM-level salary. I've managed to support my family by working while studying all this time," he said. Syafiq admitted he was embarrassed to publicly discuss his family's financial struggles. But he was desperate as his earnings from part-time work while studying were insufficient to support them. "Do you want to know the sad story about why I shared the post? The landlord told us to move out. The landlord was kind, but there were debts. "My salary was small. I truly hope the 'Deko Ibadah' programme could be aired on TV so we'll have financial resources. "Because things weren't going well, the landlord asked me to vacate within a month. I tried to find another house. But when they heard we'd be paying with help from Baitulmal, people weren't interested. "Whether I liked it or not, I decided to tell the public about our hardships. Thank God, after that, some aid came in, and the landlord said as long as I could pay, we could stay. I could use any donations for that purpose, but I did not stop working," he said. Earlier, Syafiq expressed his displeasure at criticism from netizens who accused him of being idle and hoping for his 69-year-old father, Dharma, to return to work to support the family. Syafiq clarified that he had undertaken numerous part-time jobs as a barista, model, and actor to support his family all this time. However, his monthly income of less than RM1,000 was simply not enough. Syafiq also revealed that he had received various indecent job offers that compromised his self-respect. Among them was an individual who brazenly offered RM1,000 for sexual favours. "I received all sorts of offers. For example, someone wanted to 'rent' my body for RM1,000. I just got that message early this July. There were even worse offers, but I don't think it's appropriate to share them publicly," he said. He admitted he wasn't surprised by such an offer, given his work as a model. According to him, the offer might have stemmed from posting photos from his portfolio on social media. Yesterday, producer Richard Ung organised a special screening of the action film 'Felai Fx', starring both Dharma and Syafiq, while also channeling donations to their family. Ung said that the event, held at the National Film Development Corporation (Finas), was primarily to help collect donations for Dharma due to their difficulties, rather than to promote the 'Felai Fx' film.

#SHOWBIZ: Ailing actor Dharma: 'I want to work, can be a producer'
KUALA LUMPUR: Popular 1980s actor, Dharma Harun Al-Rashid, 69, has expressed his clear refusal to rely on donations as his primary source of income. Instead, he is keen to return to work. Dharma specifically aims to continue his career in the creative industry, focusing on behind-the-scenes roles as a producer. "Give me work. When there's work, the money will come automatically," he said during the special screening of the new film 'Felai Fx' at the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) in Petaling Jaya yesterday. The veteran actor shared that his recent involvement in 'Felai Fx' had successfully reignited his passion for being back on set. "I don't think of this as a job, but something I truly love," he added. Dharma is also grateful for the continued support from his friends, who often visit him at his residence in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur. "Many old artiste friends have come to visit me, such as Datuk DJ Dave, Noor Kumalasari, and Haiza. When we share stories, I instantly feel happier." Previously, producer Richard Ung organised a special screening of the action film 'Felai Fx', which stars Dharma, and also channelled donations to him. Dharma suffered a stroke a few years ago but is now gradually recuperating.

Kian Kok national singing contest to raise funds for needy students
Published on: Thursday, July 17, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 17, 2025 Text Size: Paul (middle) with Jimmy on his right, Clement (fifth right) with Eliza on his right. Kota Kinabalu: The 'Voice In The Shadows – Our Concert' National Senior Singing Competition (East Malaysia), scheduled for August 16–17, here, is shaping up to be far more than a musical event. It will be a celebration of senior vocal talent, a platform for national unity, and a significant fundraising initiative for Kian Kok Middle School. Advertisement The event is being organised with a clear dual purpose, that, is to honour senior citizens through music and to raise funds for educational support, particularly for students in need. This year's Grand Finals will welcome Tan Sri Paul Lim Pau Chang and Datuk Clement Yeh as Special VIP Guests, both of whom bring a strong commitment to cultural exchange and social impact. At a recent luncheon hosted by the Opening Committee, led by Datuk Eliza Goh, influential figures including Jimmy Goh came together not just to promote the concert, but to discuss broader themes of education, social development, and regional collaboration. 'This is an opportunity to build bridges between East and West Malaysia. Music transcends boundaries, and platforms like this can also promote business opportunities and broader collaborations across regions,' said Paul. Echoing his view, Eliza, who is also a member of the Kian Kok Middle School Board said beyond the music, this is a valuable avenue for fostering mutual respect and meaningful cultural exchanges. 'Through initiatives like this, we can bridge not only geographical distances but also social and educational divides,' she said. Chairman of the Board of Kian Kok Middle School, Clement, also expressed his personal commitment to the cause. 'Education is the foundation of our society, and it is our duty to ensure that no child is left behind due to financial difficulties. 'I'm heartened to see initiatives like this that not only entertain but also uplift,' he said. The competition is raising funds specifically to support financially challenged students at Kian Kok Middle School, a prominent institution in Sabah. Clement further shared the school's progressive educational direction, including the recent introduction of a culinary programme and the globally recognised IGCSE curriculum. 'We are committed to maintaining Kian Kok Middle School's role as a premier institution of learning in Sabah. 'By introducing new programmes such as culinary arts and IGCSE, we are preparing our students not just for local success but for international opportunities,' he said. Jimmy, appointed as Event Advisor, will guide the strategic execution of the concert to ensure its cultural and charitable goals are successfully achieved. Eliza said: 'Supporting education is one of the most impactful ways we can contribute to society. Through this event, we hope to showcase not only the rich talents of our seniors but also the importance of uplifting our youth.' As the Grand Finals draw near, the Organising Committee invites community members, corporate partners, and philanthropists to join in this unique celebration of music, unity, and hope helping ensure that education remains a beacon of opportunity for future generations. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
