Hawthorn star Massimo D'Ambrosio's Clayton home tour has buyers buzzing
In an exclusive to the Herald Sun, it can be revealed the rising AFL talent has joined the campaign for 23 Murdo Rd, Clayton as a proud property ambassador, bringing heart, heritage and a touch of la dolce vita to a much-loved listing.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home sits on a generous 715sq m block and is being sold through Buxton Oakleigh auctioneer Dimitri Damianos, with strong appeal for both families and developers.
While the 21-year-old isn't the owner, he's an Italian friend of the vendors, and the home's nostalgic charm, from its manicured gardens to its fruit-laden trees, instantly struck a chord.
'He grew up around homes like this,' Mr Damianos said.
'The fruit trees, the layout, the smell of cooking in the air, it reminds him of his grandparents' place.
'His Italian roots are a big part of who he is, and this home really captured that.'
D'Ambrosio, who was drafted by Essendon in the 2022 mid-season draft and played a breakout season for Hawthorn in 2024, visited the home this week and Mr Daminos bonded instantly with the owners over coffee, cannoli and shared Sicilian roots.
'There was this hilarious moment where he spotted some gaggiu fruit — loquats — in the yard and called it out immediately,' he said.
'I had no idea what it was — the family gave me grief for that.
'But Massimo was in his element.'
Inside, the home features original Sortino furniture — a brand that rivalled Franco Cozzo, as well as polished timber floors and a layout made for family gatherings.
With the matriarch now moving into aged care
and managing health issues the family is parting with the home after decades of milestones and Sunday lunches, and they're hoping it finds new owners who'll love it just as much.
'This place has hosted countless birthdays, barbecues and celebrations,' Mr Damianos said.
'It's full of love, and now the campaign is, too.'
Auction day is set to be a full-blown Italian celebration, complete with coffee, cannoli, and, if his schedule allows an appearance from D'Ambrosio himself.
Clayton continues to be one of Melbourne's most in-demand pockets, with PropTrack data showing house prices have climbed more than 36 per cent over the past five years, driven by strong buyer demand, proximity to Monash University and the Victorian Heart Hospital, and excellent rail and retail connections.
The home will be brought to market soon.

Trainer Matt Laurie is excited to unleash Caulfield Cup-nominated Group 1 star Treasurethe Moment against Australia's best equine talent in the Melbourne Spring Carnival. Treasurethe Moment, set to jumpout at Mornington on Wednesday, 'achieved everything we set her for' last season, with three Group 1 wins including Oaks in Melbourne and Sydney. 'She's got such a great win record, it's going to be very interesting to see how she handles herself against this next lot of opposition.' Treasurethe Moment will audition for the Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate with Group 1 performances in the Memsie Stakes, Makybe Diva Stakes and Turnbull Stakes. 'She's a star and I'm looking forward to the next preparation,' Laurie said. 'We placed her to win (three-year-old fillies Group 1 targets) and she delivered and we're obviously here to carry on winning but we have to be a bit realistic about it. 'We're going to be coming up against some wonderful horses, so we'll see where we stand. 'She's going to have to take some big steps but she looks like the horse that might be capable of doing it.' Treasurethe Moment cut a striking figure on Tuesday at Laurie's picturesque Carringbush Park in Moorooduc. 'She certainly couldn't look any better at this stage of her preparation,' Laurie beamed. 'Most of the horses are still sporting a pretty wintry looking coat, she basically looks as though she's well into the spring already.' Treasurethe Moment is equal $11 all-in favourite for the Caulfield Cup and $8 third elect in Cox Plate markets. Laurie deferred the ultimate Caulfield Cup-Cox Plate decision to Yulong billionaire owner-breeder Yuesheng Zhang but said the former could be the 'better target' based on track suitability and opposition strength. 'I think whichever way we went she'd be suitable, in anything we targeted,' Laurie said. 'She's an ultimate talent. We'll make our decision as we get further into the prep.' The Caulfield Cup has attracted 146 nominations, while the Cox Plate received 108 entries.

Sacked Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin is expected to find his feet back in the AFL world in the not too distant future, and could even be at the Sydney Swans next year. The decision to dismiss the premiership-winning coach on Tuesday sent shockwaves through the AFL industry, with Goodwin himself being 'blindsided' by the decision. 'If you're looking at all the important factors, the way that they play has been the same issue for four years,' expert commentator Kane Cornes said on Channel 7's The Agenda Setters. 'They are stuck in 2015 with their game styles, contest and defence, he hasn't been able to evolve that. He hasn't had a game style that stacks up in 2025 ... 'He hasn't been able to solve that. The culture is a mess, like the senior players appear to do whatever they want ...' But veteran AFL journalist Caroline Wilson said Goodwin had been let down by the club's list managers and senior leaders. '(On the weekend) Simon Goodwin was working with his footy boss Alan Richardson fully in the belief he will be coaching out the season and fulfilling his contract next year,' she said on The Agenda Setters. 'He was sitting at home last night watching Netflix and he gets a call from (acting president) Brad Green .... completely blindsided. '(But) I would say his list management has let him down. I would say Gary Pert (the former) CEO let him down with all those cultural comments and, you know, the failure to deliver on a home (base). 'And (Goodwin) gave them a clip today mentioning Casey. 'I have some amazing relationships with some blokes I've coached for an incredibly long time .... probably what I won't miss is driving down to Casey.' The Agenda Setters believed that parting shot was a decent whack at the club. 'Well that's a problem for them now. Good luck getting getting players from other clubs to want to go and play at Melbourne now,' Cornes said. Hawthorn great Luke Hodge agreed. 'Especially when former coach gives Casey a bit of a backhander on the way out,' Hodge said. 7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary said Goodwin 'won't be lost to football for long'. Cleary said the former Adelaide crows star would have a quick break, but would be back in football 'without too long out of the game'. 'And I believe that the Sydney clubs will make a big play for Simon Goodwin,' Cleary said. 'Now his wife is a high-flyer in the Sydney finance world, and has been based in Sydney in recent times. The feeling is that the Swans and Giants will come hard for a person of Simon Goodwin's calibre, and we know that Sydney will have at least one, potentially two, openings under Dean Cox at the end of this year ... and there's potentially one at the Giants as well. 'So keep an eye on the Swans and the Giants for Simon Goodwin for his next move.'

South Korean attacker Ji Dong-won to play in the A-League for Macarthur FC
Macarthur FC has snared the services of former Premier League and Bundesliga marksman Ji Dong-won. The 34-year-old former South Korean international joins the Bulls from Suwon, and brings a wealth of experience to the A-League, with his previous clubs including Sunderland, Mainz and Borussia Dortmund. Ji also won a bronze medal with South Korea at the 2012 London Olympic Games. 'I want to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to play here,' Ji said. 'I'm excited to play with the team. I love Australia. It has a good lifestyle and good football with strong young players. 'This is a good last challenge for my career.
