Bentley EXP 15 Concept Gives Sneak Peek At Brand's Production EV

NDTV09-07-2025
Bentley is stepping into the future with the EXP 15 concept, which is a massive departure from the brand's conventional design. It is a full-size exterior model complemented by a similar interior created using virtual reality. This also points in the direction in which the heritage brand is headed regarding its first future electric vehicle. Although the brand has dropped its full EV transition plan, they are working on bringing the first of their production EV by next year and the EXP 15 concept gives us an idea of what to expect.
Bentley EXP 15 Concept: Exterior
The Bentley EXP 15 concept comes with a silhouette associated with grand styling which still stands apart from conventional designs. To begin with, the concept gets a raised stance typically seen on an SUV but with a sloping roofline towards the rear. It is inspired by the 1930 Bentley Speed Six Gurney Nutting Sportsman coupe. To add to its clean design, all the surfaces are smooth with a sharp crease connecting the headlight to the base of the side windows and rear overhang.
The front end still seems to be carrying the right genes from the Bentley DNA with upright fascia. To blend it with modern aesthetics, it has been loaded with an illuminated hexagonal grille. There's also an arrage of triangular elements that seem to mimic crosshairs of a Bentley grille with a central spine. Atop this grille is the brand's new badge placed right below the hood ornament.
On either side of the grille, the brand has placed vertically oriented LED headlights, similar trim piece is placed at the edge of the doors of the car. There is also a vent on the sides which channels air alongside the car. Moving to the rear end are thin tail lights wrapped around the body coloured panel with the Bentley badge. The car also gets roof-top spoilers and an active rear diffuser.
Bentley EXP 15 Concept: Interior
The Bentley EXP 15 concept welcomes you with an asymmetrical door setup with one on the driver's side and two on the passenger's side. Similarly, there are three seats in the cabin with the driver's seat placed in the front and passenger seats on either side. The passenger side seat can rotate for easier ingress and egress. It can also be moved forward or backward.
The EXP 15 features a unique "wing-shaped" dashboard design, with trim elements rising from the center console, one encasing the steering wheel and another containing gauges for the passenger. The dashboard can display a digital interface or reveal wood veneer underneath. There is a large dial behind the center screen resembling an old radial engine, along with adjustable glass components displaying information like direction and charge status.
The cabin blends materials such as wool textiles and 3-D-printed titanium trim, with gold-knurled finish on the switchgear and backlit panels mirroring the grille motif. The trunk doubles as a picnic setup, featuring cushions, a fridge for champagne, and an ambient lamp. The EXP 15 also showcases Pallas Gold paint, allowing radar sensors to function without interference, maintaining the vehicle's sleek aesthetics.

Royal Enfield drives Eicher Motors' Q1 FY26 gains, VECV posts strong revenue

Eicher Motors Limited (EML) has reported its first-quarter FY2025–26 financial results with record-high consolidated revenue and significant gains in both of its two flagship businesses— Royal Enfield and VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV). Both verticals saw growth, but Royal Enfield continued to be the prime driver of momentum, backed by high domestic sales and growing international reach. Both verticals saw growth, but Royal Enfield continued to be the prime driver of momentum, backed by high domestic sales and growing international reach. Royal Enfield maintains growth trajectory In Q1 FY26, Royal Enfield retailed 261,326 motorcycles, up by a 14.7 per cent increase over the 227,736 motorcycles sold in the previous year in the same quarter. The growth in volumes helped Eicher Motors clock ₹5,042 crore in consolidated revenue from operations—its highest-ever for the first quarter—reflecting a 14.8 per cent year-on-year rise. Profit after tax stood at ₹1,205 crore, up 9.4 per cent from the previous year. Royal Enfield's performance was bolstered by multiple product and cultural initiatives. The company launched the 2025 Hunter 350 at its inaugural street culture festival, HunterHood, in Mumbai and Delhi. The new model gets new colour schemes, better ergonomics, a slip-assist clutch, and LED lighting without compromising on its signature 349cc J-series engine. Internationally, Royal Enfield established itself further in South Asia by locally producing and introducing the Classic 350 in Nepal. The motorcycle is now equipped with new safety and connectivity features, such as dual-channel ABS and a USB Type-C charger, designed for the international markets. Community-building continued to be the focus of the brand, highlighted by the success of the 21st Himalayan Odyssey—a 18-day, 2,600 km motorbike ride through Ladakh and Spiti. In parallel, Royal Enfield introduced a collaborative collection with The Great Frog at the London Bike Shed Moto Show and launched a sustainable apparel range under its "Green Pursuit" initiative, using eco-friendly materials. While these numbers are not consolidated in Eicher's overall revenue, VECV's contribution was reflected in the group's profit after tax. The business sold 21,610 vehicles in the quarter, up from 19,702 a year ago. Despite a largely flat market, VECV grew its market share to 18.7 per cent from 17.3 per cent last year. Its leadership in the Light and Medium Duty (LMD) truck segment continued, with a 34.5per cent share, while total bus volumes rose 14.8 per cent , boosting its market share in that category to 21.5 per cent. Exports also grew by 20.5per cent year-on-year. Electrification is gradually entering the fold, with growing deliveries of the all-electric Eicher Pro X in the Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) segment. Meanwhile, the company's connected fleet solution, 'My Eicher," now supports 150,000 users and over 350,000 vehicles. However, VECV's profit after tax was lower compared to the same quarter last year, primarily due to a one-time deferred tax reversal. Nevertheless, the company reported a healthy 32.6 per cent increase in EBITDA, citing improved volumes, pricing, and cost discipline. Elon Musk's Starlink Gets Satellite Internet Permit In India

New Delhi: Elon Musk-led Starlink has received a licence to launch satellite service in India, and a framework for spectrum allocation is also in place for a smooth rollout, Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday. The announcement was made on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the first cellular call made in the country in 1995. "Starlink has been granted a Unified License to launch satellite internet services in India. Frameworks for spectrum allocation and gateway establishment are ready, ensuring smooth rollout," Mr Scindia said. Along with Starlink, Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio SES are also awaiting spectrum allocation to roll out their satcom services. The minister said that over the last 11 years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's digital transformation has been nothing short of extraordinary. "From remote villages to bustling cities, digital access has empowered citizens, bridged divides, and made India a global leader in affordable, inclusive technology," he added. The minister said telephone connections in the country now stand at 1.2 billion, and internet subscriptions have surged by nearly 286 per cent to 970 million. "Broadband usage has seen explosive growth of over 1,450 per cent, rising from 60 million in 2014 to 944 million today. Most notably, the cost of mobile data has dropped by 96.6 per cent, making India the global leader in affordable data at just Rs 8.9 per GB," he said. Mr Scindia said the revival of BSNL has been a major breakthrough. "For the first time in 18 years, BSNL reported back-to-back net profits of Rs 262 crore and Rs 280 crore in FY 2024-25. Over 83,000 4G sites have been installed, with 74,000 already operational, all built on indigenously developed technology. Crack Teams, AI-powered monitoring, and fibre fault resolution within 12 hours have raised service standards across the board," the minister noted. He said India's rapid 5G rollout has covered 99.6 per cent of districts, with 4.74 lakh 5G towers and 300 million users. "With the world's highest per capita 5G usage (32 GB per month) and 100 Use Case Labs in place, India is also among the top six countries in 6G patent filings. Investments under the Production Linked Incentive scheme have touched Rs 4,305 crore, resulting in Rs 85,391 crore in sales and over 28,000 jobs. Foreign direct investment has nearly tripled from USD 282 million to USD 710 million," the minister added. Commenting on the 30th anniversary of the first cellular call in India, telecom industry body COAI Director General SP Kochhar said India's telecom sector has witnessed a phenomenal transformation since the country's first cellular call in 1995. "Today, India stands as the world's second-largest telecom market, boasting over 1.2 billion subscribers and some of the most affordable tariff rates globally. An Indian subscriber now uses over 21 GB of data each month on average, which is a testament to the world-class infrastructure developed by leading Indian telecom operators," Mr Kocchar said. He said that the mobile service landscape in the country started with 2G and now over 85 per cent of India's population and more than 99 per cent of the districts in India enjoy access to 5G services. Domestic telecom gear maker HFCL managing director Mahendra Nahata said that while the late 1990s and early 2000s saw a rapid expansion of mobile infrastructure, the sector truly came of age with the advent of affordable services and innovative prepaid models that made mobile access available to millions across both major cities and remote villages. "While India followed the global curve during the 2G and 3G eras and caught up with the world in 4G, it surprised many by emerging as the country with the fastest 5G rollout in the world. Now, with a bold vision to lead in future technologies, India is actively working on developing 6G, not just to adopt, but to help shape and set global standards," Mr Nahata said. Telecom gear maker GX Group CEO Paritosh Prajapati said as India marks the 30th anniversary of its first cellular call, the country stands at a defining moment in the journey of self-reliance. "The telecom sector has been the backbone of our digital transformation, and initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme are ensuring that India doesn't just consume technology, but designs, develops and manufactures it for the world. The next three decades will belong to a truly Atmanirbhar Bharat, leading global innovation from within our borders," Prajapati said.

Layoff jitters in Bengaluru: As techies flock to office, traffic spirals on Outer Ring Road

Bengaluru: The tech capital's infamous traffic has found a new villain: fear of layoffs. As job insecurity grips the tech sector, especially in the wake of AI-led downsizing, a curious trend has emerged: travel time on all working days of the week has increased on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), with Wednesday turning out to be the worst day to be on the road! Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), who analyse the vehicle-parking data from 26 tech parks on ORR, said there was a 20-45% rise in vehicular flow at tech parks in June 2024 compared to June 2024. The surge in traffic on ORR (from Silk Board Junction to KR Pura), Sarjapur Road, and the roads leading to Electronics City has been more glaring in the past three weeks as layoffs have become near-daily headlines. The talk in HR circles is that more employees are choosing to be seen in office rather than risk being labelled dispensable while working remotely. "These days, optics matter. Being seen at your desk might ensure job security," he added. This line of thinking, despite lacking definitive data to substantiate it, is resulting in a bumper-to-bumper nightmare on ORR. So much so that the new traffic police chief, joint commissioner (traffic) Karthik Reddy, proposed a work-from-home arrangement for tech employees every Wednesday, during a recent high-level coordination meeting involving officials from BBMP, BMTC, and representatives of the Greater Bengaluru IT and Companies Association. "Peak traffic is observed between 9am and 10am on all weekdays, but Wednesday stands out because of an increase in office attendance by IT employees. We've recommended that tech firms either allow work-from-home every Wednesday or shift office timings to start by 7.30am and end earlier in the day," Reddy told TOI. The vehicle-parking data collected by BTP paints a stark picture. In June 2024, an average of 82,168 vehicles were recorded on Wednesdays. This June, the number jumped to a staggering 1.2 lakh — a 45% increase. The spike, officials believe, isn't just about the corporate mandate to return to office but also speaks to employee anxiety. Motorists seek better infra, not just WFH Traffic police's suggestion to corporate head honchos to put in place a work-from-home arrangement for tech employees every Wednesday has turned the spotlight on Bengaluru's broken civic infrastructure, which techies and other commuters insist must be fixed on priority. Suma Santosh, a data analyst working with a multinational company in Bellandur, said: "Work-from-home for a single day is only a temporary band-aid. The deeper problem lies in poor pedestrian infrastructure. I live barely 2.5km from my office, but I'm forced to take my two-wheeler because walking is unsafe and inconvenient. If proper footpaths and crossings existed, at least 25% of two-wheeler traffic could be cut down. " Others pointed to the uncoordinated construction activities choking the tech corridor. "From Metro construction to BWSSB's pipeline works to road widening, everything is happening at the same time," said Vikram Naik, project lead in a company located in Marathahalli. "There's no synchronisation between agencies. This chaos is what's fuelling peak-hour gridlocks." A BBMP official, who attended the recent coordination meeting, admitted that simultaneous infrastructure works have exacerbated congestion. "We're working with BMRCL and BWSSB to ensure better coordination in project planning. We're also exploring the feasibility of creating parallel service roads or alternative routes to divert traffic." While tech firms have shown preliminary support for staggered timings and hybrid policies, sources say the implementation needs logistical planning. Sridhar M, an HR executive with a tech major, said: "Work-from-home arrangement on Wednesdays is doable but optional. Some roles demand physical presence. We're open to encouraging early shift starts, and promoting carpooling and BMTC usage among our employees. " With tech zones such as Bellandur, Marathahalli, Kadubeesanahalli, and Devarabisanahalli continuing to bear the brunt of urban congestion, the coming weeks will test how well coordination, policy tweaks, and corporate cooperation can collectively decongest the city's IT backbone.
