New Delhi: The concurrent scheduling of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) has provided cricket fans with abundant viewing. This has also kept commentators busy, including former Pakistani cricketer Ramiz Raja, who appeared to be following both leagues closely. This resulted in a humorous incident where Raja mistakenly awarded a PSL player an IPL 'catch of the match' award.
Following Tuesday's Multan Sultans versus Lahore Qalandars match, former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja presented Joshua Little with his 'Catch of the Match' award. However, Ramiz mistakenly referred to it as the 'Catch of the IPL' instead of the PSL.

Ramiz's comments at the presentation ceremony surprised attendees, including stakeholders, and prompted some Pakistani fans to demand an apology for his inappropriate remarks.
Multan Sultans defeated Lahore Qalandars in a match where they successfully defended a 228-run target. Yasir Khan's 87 runs from 44 balls earned him Player of the Match honors, while Iftikhar Ahmed contributed a rapid 40 runs from 18 balls.
Despite a strong 27-ball fifty by Sikandar Raza, Lahore's batting performance fell short, resulting in a 33-run defeat after scoring 195/9 in their 20 overs.
'Have been working hard for this day, our team needed this kind of innings. Happy to contribute. There's a lot of hard work and practice behind this. That's why I didn't face any issue. This is how I play my shots, I know my power, I can hit it straight and over midwicket. Wanted to back my strengths. Had been waiting for my opportunity,' Yasir said after the match.

AFP The much-anticipated Diamond League clash between India's double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra and the reigning Olympic champion of Pakistan, Arshad Nadeem, looks uncertain after the Pakistani Javelin thrower underwent surgery on his calf muscle in England recently. Chopra and Nadeem were scheduled to face each other for the first time since the Paris Olympics battle, where the Pakistani emerged victorious with an enormous 92.97m throw. Chopra, who had won gold in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, came second in Paris and hence had to settle with a silver. During the time, Chopra also breached the 90m mark for the first time in his career. He notched a throw of 90.23m in the Doha Diamond League in May. Given the fact that Chopra has been in good form, the clash was picking up buzz. However, there is question mark on whether the much-awaited contest will taken place on not in Poland. 'He (Nadeem) is more focused on preparing for the World Championships in Tokyo in September which is why he decided to have the surgery on his calf muscle, which had been bothering him for a while now,' Butt said. 'I don't think they will compete against each other until the World event,' he added. Dr Ali Bajwa performed an interventional procedure on Nadeem's calf muscle at the Spire Hospital in Cambridge. Nadeem is now undergoing rehabilitation in London. As per Butt, Nadeem may compete in one event before the World Championships in Tokyo, if he gets clearance from the doctor. 'The World Championships are very important for Arshad (Nadeem) as he finished with a silver behind Neeraj (Chopra) in Budapest in 2023,' the coach said. Anshul Kamboj's experience will serve him well: Ishant and Bhuvneshwar

Anshul Kamboj's toil in first-class cricket should hold the Haryana seamer in good stead, said senior India pacers Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar here on Thursday, after the 24-year-old was handed his debut for the fourth Test against England at Manchester. Kamboj, who was a part of the India A squad before the five-Test series began, was called in after fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were sidelined from the Manchester Test due to injuries. He will do well since he has done well in First-Class cricket, and anyone who has had a good run in First-Class cricket is bound to do well for the team too, Ishant told PTI Videos on the sidelines of a Pickle Pros event. People say it is easy to take wickets in First-Class cricket, but it is really not, he added. Bhuvneshwar warned Kamboj to not get bogged down under pressure in his maiden game for India. I hope he does well because the debut match is always special and there is pressure on you as well, so I hope he doesn't succumb to the pressure of a debut match, Bhuvneshwar said. If he does well, then it will hold him in good stead, but of course, he is a very good bowler, he did well in domestic cricket and the IPL, so I wish him luck, the ace swing bowler added. Ishant said losing Rishabh Pant for the remainder of the series would be a big blow even as the India vice-captain came out to bat in the first session with a fractured foot. It is a big blow for India if a player like him is out for (up to) six weeks but (if) you see, sports is something where you are replaceable, because a sport always moves on, your team struggles for a little while but the sport goes on, Ishant said. He continued, Earlier it was Sachin Tendulkar, then Virat Kohli, and after that someone else (time) will come so while it is a big setback, injuries are part and parcel of sports." But the silver lining is that it will now give an opportunity to some other player to perform, so now it is all about taking opportunities and grabbing them and doing well for the team. Bhuvneshwar said, It is a big setback with the kind of player (that) he is. He can change the game any time when he is in the team but injury happens, they are unfortunate, but you can't stop them so I wish him a speedy recovery." Ishant, meanwhile, said experience of captaining will make Shubman Gill better and better. He is doing well. He is young and the more Test matches he will get under his belt, the more he will learn about the ins and outs of captaincy, he said. It is a new role and job for him which is not an easy one so everyone should support him. Bhuvneshwar said Mohammed Siraj's bowling workload hasn't been discussed in the media enough but he is a bowling machine for the national side. The onus is on the media to talk about it as well, if you guys talk or write about him, then it will be nice, Bhuvneshwar said. But the kind of performances Siraj has been dishing out for as many years (that) he has been playing for India he is indeed turning out to be a bowling machine for the team so yes I believe he should be appreciated more, he added. Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem unlikely in Poland: Pakistani Javelin Coach

The much-anticipated duel between double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra and reigning champion Arshad Nadeem at the Diamond League in Poland lies in uncertainty after the Pakistani javelin thrower underwent a surgery on his calf muscle in England recently. Chopra and Nadeem were scheduled to face each other for the first time next month, one year after the mouth-watering men's javelin competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the Pakistani came out on top, beating his Indian counterpart for the gold medal with a stunning 92.97m throw. The 27-year-old Chopra, who had won gold in Tokyo Olympics in 2021, had to settle for a silver in Paris with a best throw of 89.45m. The duo were set to compete against each other in the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland on August 16 and then in Switzerland next month. Nadeem's coach Salman Butt, who is with him in England, informed that the reigning Olympic champion is unsure for both the events as he was more focussed on making his comeback at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September. "He (Nadeem) is more focussed on preparing for the World Championships in Tokyo in September which is why he decided to have the surgery on his calf muscle which had been bothering for a while now," Butt said. "I don't think they will compete against each other until the World event," he added. Dr Ali Bajwa performed an interventional procedure on Nadeem's calf muscle at the Spire Hospital in Cambridge.
