"I've got a long way to go. I wouldn't say I'm mad close to the team at the minute, with the season going the way it went.
"At the end of the day, it's how you do it at your club.
"Personally, if I look at it selfishly, to get back in the England squad, I need to be playing well in the Premier League."

He continued: "If I want to play for England, we've got to get promoted.

"People around me know that, and I think the fans know that as well.
"We don't want to be playing in the Championship, we want to be playing in the Premier League. We've got a taste of it now.
"We've got the bit between our teeth to go and do a better job.
"It couldn't have gone any worse in the Premier League last time. We've got to put that wrong, right."

Asked about Harwood-Bellis joining his family, Roy joked: "It's not done and dusted yet.
"Things can change really quickly in the Keane household."
But he also gave him a glowing review, saying: "It's nice for him, it's good for him to make his debut.
"He is a really good kid and his family have done a great job.

Gavin Bazunu admits that his Southampton future is out of his hands. However the Ireland goalkeeper is relishing the opportunity to challenge for a return to the Saints' starting-11. Bazunu has impressed in pre-season training, and in his appearances in pre-season friendlies. His latest display came as part of the first-half 11 against Spanish side Castellon on Wednesday. Speaking to the Southern Daily Echo, Bazunu opened up about his future, saying: 'I want to be here, definitely. 'I'm not sure how much of it's going to be in my hands, but I'm ready to play, and I'm hoping to play here. 'All we can do is take these opportunities we get to play and just show what we can do, really. It's nice to be back out there getting minutes again. 'To be able to start from the very start with the lads and to be able to get minutes in the games and train every day is really important.' For Bazunu, it's been a welcome return to action after he was sidelined by a torn achilles, and then a knee injury that cut short his loan spell at Belgian side Standard Liege. He said: 'It was very challenging, both physically and mentally, coming off the back of my Achilles injury, obviously not playing in nine months. 'To go away and play in a foreign country, it was a big test, but it will stand me in good stead, getting the minutes and games in that I did over there. 'It was a small speed bump in terms of the knee injury, but being back fit over the summer and starting from pre-season afresh is a good start. 'I think it's now about just trying to put a good run of games together to build that confidence and that consistency in my game again.' Wrexham have made an ambitious approach for Christian Eriksen, according to the former Manchester United midfielder's agent. The 33-year-old Denmark international is without a club after his contract with United expired at the end of the 2024-25 season. Eriksen's agent Martin Schoots told the Daily Mail: 'Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like (chief executive) Michael Williamson there.
