REPORT: Texas blocked Ohio State's attempt to move opener to prime time
When Fox Sports announced it had secured the rights to broadcast the Texas Longhorns 2025 season opener at Ohio State, there was one piece of information missing -- the time. Speculation swirled that, instead of the usual "Big Noon Saturday" time slot Fox uses for its top weekly game, the matchup would be moved to prime time. A new report suggests it was the Longhorns that blocked moving the game's start time.
A few days after the original announcement, It was leaked that the game on Fox Sports would indeed be a Big Noon Saturday game. Ohio State fans have grown frustrated with Fox broadcasting the majority of their games at Noon. Many feel the early start diminishes the game-day atmosphere and excitement, especially for Ohio State fans accustomed to late afternoon or evening games that allow for a long tailgate.
But the apparent reason Fox left the time off of the original graphic was because the Buckeyes' athletic department was lobbying for the Cotton Bowl rematch against Texas be moved to prime time on Sunday, either in the late afternoon or evening.
According to a new report by Chip Brown at Horns247, it was the Longhorns athletic department that rejected that proposal. Apparently, the feeling was Texas would have a better chance winning a Big Noon game on Saturday than a night game on Sunday. It's also possible Texas didn't want to disrupt travel or preparation for the next week's game against San Jose State. Obviously, those things could have been overcome if Texas actually wanted to facilitate the move.
If the game could have been moved to prime time on Saturday night, Texas would have very little say in the matter. But the fact Ohio State wanted to move the game to another date (the next day) meant they had to get Texas' sign off. UT apparently did not sign off on the move.
Saturday, August 30 has a slew of season openers, including LSU-Clemson in prime time on ABC. Sunday's only game is Notre Dame-Miami, also on ABC. Ohio State wanted the game to be played either in the late afternoon or at night on Sunday. Texas said no.
It's just one more storyline added to what will be an epic opener.

Former Ohio State football star signs rookie NFL contract with New England Patriots
Patriots sign 2025 second-round draft pick RB TreVeyon Henderson: Former Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson has signed his rookie contract with the New England Patriots. The signing occurred on Saturday, according to multiple sources and confirmed by the Patriots themselves. And while details of contracts can be hard to come by at first, based on some reporting from KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson, the contract details are very much in favor of the standout running back. The Patriots agreed to sign Henderson to a four-year, $11.143 million fully guaranteed contract, including a $4.74 million signing bonus. Fully guaranteed in today's NFL is quite the contract, one that should make Henderson very happy as he starts his career in New England. The Hopewell, Virginia, native played for Ohio State for four years, splitting time his last season with Ole Miss transfer Quinshon Judkins. Both backs went over 1,000 yards for the season en route to a College Football Playoff national championship, but it was Henderson who was more of the home run threat. He was selected by the Patriots with the No. 38 pick in the second round of the draft. It should be fun watching the game-breaking ability of the former Buckeye as things get going during his rookie campaign. Arch Manning's Preseason SEC Ranking Goes Viral
Arch Manning's Preseason SEC Ranking Goes Viral originally appeared on The Spun. Expectations are sky-high for Texas quarterback Arch Manning as he becomes the team's full-time starter. So how is he viewed within the conference heading into the season? The annual Preseason Media All-SEC teams were revealed today and Manning made the cut. It might not be in the way fans expected though. South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers was voted the First-Team quarterback, while LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier was the Second-Team quarterback. Manning was voted the third-team quarterback. Fans didn't seem all that beaten up over Arch not making the First-Team though. While there was some disagreement over whether Sellers is better than Nussmeier, few people seem to be giving the voters grief over Manning not getting the top billing. "Sellers over Arch.? I'm all for it just shocked a media outlet would take this stance," one user replied. "I think he's better- but I'm really surprised to see LaNorris over Nuss," wrote another. "Sellers over Nussmeier is interesting," a third wrote. "LaNorris over Nuss?? This is gonna be bookmarked for December!" It's pretty easy to understand why the expectations are more relaxed for Manning. Despite his incredible rating as a prospect and his legendary pedigree, he still lacks experience and the results he's shown in what little time he has been on the field have been somewhat mixed. In 10 games last season, most of which was spot duty, he completed 61 of 90 passes for 939 yards and nine touchdowns with just two interceptions. He was an efficient runner too, managing 108 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. But Sellers and Nussmeier have more experience and more success in their respective roles. Sellers completed 65.6-percent of his passes for over 2,500 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding over 600 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Nussmeier was one of the SEC's top QBs last year, throwing for over 4,000 yards while leading the conference in completions and attempts. That said, Manning might be in a better position to win this year. Texas is built to win a national championship and the expectation is they'll be contending for both the SEC title and snagging a spot in the College Football Playoff. If Manning lives up to the billing, he might be able to do the one thing that his uncles and grandfather never could: Win a national Manning's Preseason SEC Ranking Goes Viral first appeared on The Spun on Jul 18, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 18, 2025, where it first appeared.
