Major Celtic target ‘arrives in Scotland' to finalise transfer to Premiership champions

Scottish Sun2 days ago

ONE of Celtic's top transfer targets has arrived in Scotland to finalise his move to the club, according to a report.
Brendan Rodgers has stressed the importance of building on his Double-winning squad, in order to maintain their spot on top in the domestic game and to push on in Europe.

Last season the Hoops won the Premiership title, beat Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup final and advanced to the knockout rounds of the new-look Champions League.
They did however lose the Scottish Cup final to Aberdeen and this season they will face a Rangers team spurred on by new owners and a new manager, and have the added hurdle of needing to navigate a play-off tie to qualify into the Champions League.
Star winger Nicolas Kuhn could be on his way out, with interest from RB Leipzig, Como and Newcastle.
SunSport exclusively revealed that Swedish attacker Benjamin Nygren was high on the Hoops' wishlist this summer.
We then told you how he held positive talks with the Parkhead club a fortnight ago.
All that was holding up the deal was the fact the player was on holiday and now, according to the Daily Record, the 23-year-old has landed in Scotland to complete the switch.
Celtic will pay around £1.7million to land the Swedish international, who has been starring for Nordsjaelland in Denmark but only has six months left on his current contract.
Copenhagen and Anderlecht were keen on him too and Nordsjaelland also fielded calls from MLS and Bundesliga clubs.
But SunSport understood he always preferred a move to Scotland.
Celts gaffer Rodgers has already snapped up Kieran Tierney from Arsenal and is looking to add further quality to his side.

It's unclear if Rodgers wants to play Nygren as a winger, No10 or a striker, but his versatility will give the manager options.
The Hoops have also been linked with wingers Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Sondre Orjasaeter.
Japanese striker Shin Yamada is another name on their list.
And the Parkhead side have been working away on a deal for Albirex Niigata defender Hayato Inamura.
Former IFK Gothenburg sporting director Mats Gren reckons Nygren is better operating as a No10 and believes that is where Rodgers would get the best out of him.
He told SunSport: 'When Benjamin plays on the right wing or as a No9, he can be effective.
'However, he is best as a No10. That is where all his qualities can be on show.
'Benjamin is an intelligent attacker. His left foot is fantastic and he can score goals and assist.
'His final ball is always very good and he can finish when he gets a chance. He has the lot!
'He is not slow but he's maybe not super fast, and that's the only thing you can say that he lacks.
'However, he is quick enough to get away from opponents and has very good vision and passing.'

Daizen Maeda 'interests' Brentford after Celtic star made transfer feelings very clear amid £21m non negotiable

The forward is in demand this summer after an impressive campaign last term for the Scottish champions Brentford are reportedly showing interest in Daizen Maeda - despite the Celtic star making his feelings clear over an exit. The 27-year-old was the standout performer for the Scottish Premiership champions last season netting 33 goals last season as Brendan Rodgers' claimed a domestic double. ‌ That has seen the likes of Tottenham, Fenerbahce and West Ham touted with a move for the forward - and now The Bees' appear to have joined the race. ‌ Sportiva reported that the addition of Maeda is part of the "big changes heading into the new season" with Keith Andrews replacing Thomas Frank as manager - after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham. It is claimed that the Premier League club could take "immediate action" and submit and offer - but the valuation of the Japanese international will be "carefully considered" before an offer is made. Reports in Turkey stating Jose Mourinho's men were told stump up £21million for the star by Celtic - and that valuation is unlikely to have moved since. But Maeda has already hinted this summer that he is in no rush to leave - as he sets his sights on the Champions League after reaching the play-off phase of the competition. He said: "I really enjoyed playing in the Champions League this season because there were so many games and it gave us a lot of different challenges. "I think the new format has been great and I am excited to try it again this upcoming season. It helped me improve. ‌ "We played some great teams. Personally, I actually thought the best side we played was Atalanta because they didn't appear to have any weaknesses." And last week Maeda explained during an interview in his homeland that his family was settled in Glasgow. ‌ He said: "My son was doing knee sliding exercises at home. I was inspired by that and thought I could do it too. "I thought I'd give it a go and it was surprisingly easy, so I started doing it after that. It's easy to do in Scotland because the grass is always wet." Aberdeen secure stunning £8MILLION funding deal as Dave Cormack vows to keep pace with Premiership rivals

The Dons chairman, director Tom Crotty and behind-the-scenes investors will fund a new indoor 4G pitch at Cormack Park and major improvements at Pittodrie. And Cormack has promised to keep Aberdeen at the forefront of Scottish game after the 49ers Enterprises' £20m investment in Rangers and Tony Bloom's £10m boost for Hearts. Cormack beamed: 'We continue to make good progress towards achieving long-term financial sustainability of the club with record season ticket sales, AberDNA memberships and markedly increased commercial and retail revenues. 'Combined with the additional funds generated, successful player trading is integral to this goal and remains a major factor in our recruitment. 'We have spent the last 12 months studying the market and refining our strategy in this area. 'This has complemented some of the squad planning work that we have undertaken, which in part has highlighted the need for adjustments in our own structures and the need for additional capital and operational investments if we are to continue to make progress and challenge ourselves to drive more success on and off the field. 'Together with our investors, I remain committed to driving Aberdeen forward and continuing to make our supporters and the region proud of its football club.' It's understood Cormack has personally put in £4m on the new sum with Crotty also investing heavily in the plan. The £8m will mainly be used for capital projects at Cormack Park, including the planned construction of a new full-sized indoor arena - with work to start in the New Year. Aberdeen fans react to historic Scottish Cup win The vision is for a new covered 4G facility for all-year-round use. Works will also take place at Pittodrie, including improved floodlights and corporate lounges as the club plans for a medium-term stay at their current home. Dons chief executive Alan Burrows added: 'This latest injection of funding takes the total investment from Dave, Tom and their colleagues to over £25m in the last few years. 'We're incredibly grateful to our investors for the new funds, which will provide a significant portion of the capital required for these improvements at Cormack Park and our stadium, while also being able to continue to invest in the squad and the football operation. 'Our training facility at Cormack Park is fantastic, and the addition of a full-sized, indoor arena and additional operational space will take it to a whole new level, opening new possibilities for our men's, women's, academy and community programmes. 'In addition, we have recently been able to more than double the investment in our scouting and talent ID department across the continent. 'This is only possible with the support we get from our investors and our fans through AberDNA memberships.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
