Ireland squad for USA games as one player misses out over family bereavement
Ireland head coach Carla Ward has named a 23-player squad for Ireland's friendly double-header away to the USA later this month - and there are some big-name absentees.
Arsenal's Champions League winning star Katie McCabe has been given permission to skip the games. Ward said earlier this month that the Tallaght native was 'on the verge of burnout' after a busy season for club and country.
Also unavailable for selection are Aoife Mannion, Heather Payne, Tara O'Hanlon, Jamie Finn, Lily Agg, Jess Ziu and Leanne Kiernan.
Shelbourne midfielder Aoibheann Clancy is also out. Ward, her staff and players have sent their condolences to Clancy following the passing of her mother, Siobhan.
'The WNT players & staff send their condolences to midfielder Aoibheann Clancy following the passing of her mother, Siobhan. She is being given the time to deal with this difficult period and has the full support of the WNT squad,' read a line in the press release detailing Ward's squad.
Ireland will take on the world's top ranked nation in two friendlies - on Thursday June 26 in Denver, Colorado (2am Irish time) and Sunday June 29 in Cincinnati (8pm Irish time).
Defender Hayley Nolan and midfielder Ellen Molloy receive their first call-ups under Ward.
Nolan last featured for Ireland on their most recent US tour in April 2023, while Molloy's return is on the back of impressive performances with Wexford.
'The two games against the USA are an opportunity for us to work together on a number of things – both on and off the pitch – as we build towards the UEFA Nations League Play-Off against Belgium in October,' said Ward.
'We will be coming up against the best team in women's football, so we will have a plan for those games but it's also important that we make the most out of this camp as a whole.
'When these games were first proposed to us we knew that we would be without certain players, but that opens the door for others to step up.
'We are building, camp by camp, so we are looking forward to getting together again and putting in some extra work that will stand to us moving forward.'
Goalkeepers: Courtney Brosnan (Everton), Grace Moloney (Unattached), Sophie Whitehouse (Charlton Athletic)
Defenders: Jessie Stapleton (West Ham United), Anna Patten (Aston Villa), Caitlin Hayes (Brighton & Hove Albion), Hayley Nolan (Crystal Palace), Chloe Mustaki (Bristol City), Megan Campbell (Unattached)

Roy Keane meets football legends as he visits Inter Miami training camp
Roy Keane met a trio of Barcelona greats as he visited Inter Miami's training camp ahead of the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup. The Corkman has travelled to the United States to take in the later stages of the inaugural edition of the club competition. And the former Manchester United captain visited the Inter Miami squad ahead of their clash with PSG on Sunday. Keane was pictured alongside a trio of former Barcelona stars in Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. But fans were disappointed that Keane never got to meet Inter Miami's talisman Lionel Messi. It was Messi's free-kick against Porto that propelled his MLS side into the knockout stages of the Club World Cup. But they now have their work cut out against the reigning Champions League winners in PSG. Messi, of course, had a two-year spell at PSG after leaving Barcelona, scoring 32 goals in 75 games for the French side.

What time and TV channel is England v Germany on in the U21 Euros final?
England and Germany clash in the final of the U21 European Championship final. Two years on from winning the competition for the first time since 1984, the Young Lions are once again on the brink of triumph. After a slow start in Slovakia, they've managed to reach the Bratislava finale. Following an impressive quarter-final victory over favourites Spain, England secured their place in the final with a semi-final win against the Netherlands on Wednesday to set up a clash with Germany, who previously defeated them 2-1 in the final group match despite making 11 changes. Here's what you need to know: The match takes place at Slovakia's national football stadium in Bratislava on Saturday, June 28. The action kicks off at 8pm Irish time. Channel 4 are showing the decider live, with their coverage starting at 7.30pm. Jermain Defoe: 'It's almost like 'it doesn't matter who we play against because if we focus on ourselves and we get the best version of every player, like we have in the last two games, then, really, it doesn't really matter who you play against'. 'Germany have been great. I've watched all of their games. I watched them the other day against France. I was surprised, to be honest, but I thought they were brilliant. 'But then, do we need to be scared? Is there anything to be scared of? No, because the way we've played the last two games, if you can repeat that then I'm confident, to be honest. 'I was confident from the beginning. Even with the players that dropped out, I still felt like we had enough. 'Then watching the performances and watching how we've improved, I thought 'this team is peaking at the right time'. 'I just believe tomorrow night the boys will do something special. It's not going to be easy, of course, but I think they will do something special.' England win: 13/8 Germany win: EVS Draw: 5/2
