Betamek delivers strong growth in Q1 profit after tax
The company reported revenue of RM56.9 million for the quarter, marking a 13.8% increase compared to RM50 million in Q1'25. The growth was mainly attributable to higher sales of vehicle accessories and the initial contributions from industrial instruments and consumer electronics, reflecting early success from Betamek's diversification strategy. Profit before tax rose to RM7.2 million, up 12.1% from the same period last year. The group's gross profit margin expanded to 18.4%, compared to 17.2% previously, supported by stronger cost management and favourable currency movements.
The vehicle audio and visual products segment continued to be the primary revenue contributor, accounting for RM38.9 million, or 68.4% of total revenue. The vehicle accessories segment contributed RM11.3 million, while the non-automotive products segment accounted for RM6.6 million. The Malaysian market remained the group's key focus, contributing 97.2% of total revenue, with the balance derived from Hong Kong and Japan.
Compared to the immediate preceding quarter (Q4'25), revenue declined marginally by 4.8% from RM59.7 million, mainly due to reduced working days during festive periods. Despite the seasonal impact, the group maintained a strong profit before tax margin of 12.6%, slightly higher than the 12.1% recorded in the previous quarter, reflecting continued operational efficiency. However, the gross profit margin improved by 0.81% due to favourable currency movement in US dollar and China's yuan in the current quarter.
Betamek's board has declared a first interim single-tier dividend of one sen per share for the financial year ending March 31, 2026. The ex-date for the dividend is Aug 6, with payment scheduled for Aug 20.
Executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani said, 'We're pleased to begin the financial year on solid footing, driven by ongoing progress in our diversification strategy and operational improvements, particularly at Sanshin Malaysia. This performance reflects our ability to adapt and grow sustainably even as the market normalises following a record year. We remain focused on strengthening our customer base, investing in automation, and developing innovative product solutions across both automotive and non-automotive sectors.'

RM200 million Agrofood Financing Fund launched
Published on: Saturday, August 02, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 02, 2025 Text Size: Arthur witnessing the exchange of strategic cooperation agreement documents between Agrobank represented by Agrobank Group Chief Operating Officer, Zahid Ahmad Zawawi (right), and TM One represented by TM One's Vice President of Enterprise Business, Megawati Norhashim (second, left). Kota Kinabalu: The Agrofood Financing Fund (DPA) 2025, involving RM200 million, was launched Friday with Agrobank appointed as the implementing agency to further strengthen Malaysia's agrofood sector. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the fund is designed to enhance national food security and support the long-term sustainability of the country's agricultural and agrofood industries by providing financing facilities to agro-entrepreneurs. 'This programme aims to support entrepreneurs involved in agricultural and agrofood production, covering activities across the entire value chain — from upstream to downstream — including support services. I believe this will greatly benefit grassroots-level entrepreneurs. 'The fund provides financing for both fixed capital, such as asset acquisition and development costs, and working capital, to meet the operational needs of agro-industry players,' he told reporters after launching the fund in conjunction with the National Farmers, Stockbreeders and Fishermen's Day 2025, here, Friday. Also present were the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Secretary-General Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, Agrobank Chairman Datuk Yunos Abd Ghani and Agrobank Group President/Chief Executive Officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin. Arthur said Agrobank will carefully assess each application to determine eligibility, based on pre-established conditions and project scopes. 'At this stage, we do not yet have the number of recipients, as Agrobank will first evaluate all submitted applications. Only then will we determine who qualifies and how many applicants are eligible for the fund,' he said. The DPA fund offers financing ranging from RM50,000 to RM5 million for eligible agro-entrepreneurs, with a profit rate of three per cent per annum. Meanwhile, Arthur said Agrobank and TM One have entered into a strategic collaboration to enhance the bank's digital infrastructure. The partnership aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of Agrobank's financial services, including ATMs, CDMs and online banking, through improved internet connectivity and digital solutions. 'This is a strategic move to accelerate Agrobank's digitalisation and provide a more seamless customer experience, especially for rural communities and farmers who rely on its services,' Arthur said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Felda MD2 pineapples reach global markets, boosting settler incomes
KUALA LUMPUR: The Felda Settlers Development Programme (PPP) for MD2 pineapple cultivation has marked a significant achievement by entering international markets, directly benefiting 3,730 settlers across nine Felda schemes. Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican highlighted Felda's expanding role beyond oil palm, stating, 'Felda has demonstrated a strong commitment to uplifting rural communities through various high-impact projects like this, which are not solely focused on primary crops but also alternative ones that provide direct benefits to settlers and local communities.' The flag-off ceremony for the export of Felda's PPP produce was held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), with MATRADE senior board member Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin representing Reezal Merican. The PPP, a collaboration with Agrobank since 2021, covers 222 hectares in Felda schemes like Besout, Keratong, and Lembah Klau, with 10 million pineapples planted. Harvests are sold domestically at Village Grocer, Giant, and AEON Jusco, while exports reach the Middle East, Japan, and China. Trade value from MD2 pineapples and suckers has hit RM4.9 million in three years, with projections of RM18.5 million in five years. Aqina Fruits, the project operator, has engaged 40 descendants of settlers as staff, integrating modern farming techniques like IoT-based automation and drone technology. Aqina Fruits executive director Wesley Tan Seah Ging noted, 'This platform not only empowers settlers socioeconomically but also includes education, technical skills, and entrepreneurship.' - Bernama

Arthur (back) witnessing Tengku Ahmad (left) handing over the DPA 2025 to KPKM Business Development and Investment Division Secretary Khalid Ibrahim. KOTA KINABALU (Aug 1): Agrobank has earmarked RM200 million for its Agrofood Financing Fund (DPA) 2025 to support national food security and promote the long-term sustainability of Malaysia's agricultural and agrofood sectors. The fund provides financing facilities to farming communities engaged in agricultural and agrofood production activities — ranging from upstream to downstream — including related support services. The goal is to encourage the adoption of agrotechnology and enhance the resilience of the agrofood industry. Agrobank Chief Executive Officer Dato Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin said the bank, as the implementing agency, offers financing between RM50,000 and RM5 million to eligible agricultural entrepreneurs at a profit rate of just three percent per annum. 'The financing covers fixed capital needs such as asset purchases and development costs, as well as working capital,' he said. 'It also supports the entire agrofood value chain, including food production like planting, farming and fishing, along with processing, distribution, marketing, and food preparation services.' Tengku Ahmad said the initiative reinforces Agrobank's role as a development financial institution (DFI) committed to providing inclusive, sustainable and accessible financing to farming communities and agro-industry players. 'This effort is aligned with the government's aim to boost the competitiveness of the nation's agri-food sector,' he added. The handing over of the DPA 2025 was witnessed by Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup during a ceremony held at the Sabah International Convention Centre here today.
