Will Price seeking breakthrough city winner with Attachments at Caulfield
Jockey Will Price rode winners for fun in Melbourne as a star apprentice but a breakthrough victory on Saturday at Caulfield aboard Attachments would be a reward for persistence.
Price, a champion Melbourne apprentice in 2020-21 with 47 city winners, has experienced the well-trodden tough transition to senior riding ranks the past 18 months.
The natural lightweight has worked hard primarily on the country circuit in a bid to find potential city runners like Attachments, trained by Archie Alexander.

A chance to ride the three-year-old daughter of Prince Of Caviar, a son of the legend Black Caviar, in a Donald jumpout has led to Warracknabeal and Cranbourne wins.
Attachments is seven weeks' between runs but placed second in a recent Caulfield Heath jump out.
'I didn't ask much of her but she felt great underneath me, obviously she could've gone and won the trial if I pushed her,' Price said.
'She's kept progressing from Cranbourne and off the back of that trial, hopefully, she could put her best foot forward on Saturday.
'You got to take these opportunities with both hands, that's for sure … I've had a couple metro rides here and there through the season but not many in the market.'
Attachments is $12 in the 1200m 3YO Fillies Handicap.
'It's good to get an opportunity on a progressive filly over a suitable distance against her own age and sex … crucial this time of year to hopefully ride metro winners … and show everyone I can still do what I was doing with a claim,' Price said.
Price has ridden 20 winners this season, including a stakes success in Adelaide.
His last Melbourne city winner was in December 2023.
Essendon-based Price has been to Moe (twice), Geelong (twice), Ballarat (twice), Pakenham (twice), Swan Hill, Casterton, Seymour, Bendigo, Wangaratta, Sandown, Donald and Echuca the past month alone for race rides.
He also travels to Pakenham and Ballarat weekly to ride work.
The 25-year-old rode at Warracknabeal on Friday and returns to Ballarat on Sunday.
Attachments is his only ride at Caulfield on Saturday.
'It's always a battle (apprentice to senior), you really got to be going everywhere you can and trying to ride winners anywhere,' Price said.
'If you don't go and follow those horses someone else is going to ride and someone else is going to win on them and obviously you're out the backdoor.
'Obviously you don't want to be hitting these flat spots … you want to be riding metro winners outside of your apprenticeship but a lot of riders hit this flat spot.
'There's no point getting down in the dumps about it all, got to keep chipping away and pushing to get back to where we all want to be – riding winners in town.'

Those were the crowning three words from hobby trainer Craig Cousins after cult gelding The Inflictor bounced back from a disappointing Stradbroke Handicap to win the $160,000 Listed Tattersall's Mile at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The Inflictor jumped as the $3.50 favourite and the result never looked in doubt when the four-year-old hit the lead from about the 300m mark to collect his first stakes victory. Graham also missed out on riding winning mare Miss Joelene, trained by Kelly Schweida, in the earlier Tatt's Gold Crown (2100m). Graham's close mate Rachel King was the lucky recipient of the vacant ride and she made her opportunity count with a flawless performance, finishing ahead of Sibaaq ($4.70) and Chica Mojito ($11). 'Yeah it does make up for it,' said the trainer, who only has three to four horses in work. 'The Stradbroke was a tough race. It was his first go in a Group 1 and he didn't get any favours. 'That's just racing and today's proven that he is a Listed horse and it's my biggest win ever as far as race status goes so it's great. 'I'll give him three weeks off now and we'll head down to Sydney. 'I haven't even picked out a race but we'll see what suits him. He could go down for a Benchmark 100 down there.' Cousins paid tribute to The Inflictor's band of owners, including the syndicate Bond 007, which is essentially a group of mates who used to play together at Moreton Bay AFL club. 'They're a mob of larrikin blokes like myself and they just love it,' the 60-year-old trainer said. 'They're all happy, it's great. It's a big day in my training life for sure.' King said The Inflictor had been 'beaten up a little bit' in the Stradbroke but being drawn out wide on Saturday was a blessing in disguise because it allowed him more room to strut his stuff. But the four-year-old gelding had enough zip on Saturday at Eagle Farm to beat Austmarr ($8) and General Salute ($4.40) in the $200,000 Group 3 race over 1200m, handing Schweida a winning double for the day following Miss Joelene's success in the earlier Tatt's Gold Crown (2100m). 'You could tie him up to a fence post, come back a week later and he'd be fine,' Schweida said. 'He's a lovely horse. I don't know where his ceiling is, he just keeps winning. 'He's got such a great attitude,' Collett said about four-year-old gelding Metalart, who has now won eight of his 14 races. 'Once he got going the run was easy, and he was strong late. 'I remember seeing him over the Christmas period when Michael Rodd won on him (in a Benchmark 78), and he looked impressive that day. 'I'd say 1400m is probably his best trip, so it was a good sign that he was able to win over 1200m today.' Hidden Wealth jumped at $6.50 but could only manage fourth on a disappointing day for the Tony Gollan stable after star mare Floozie finished fifth in the $700,000 Group 1 Tatt's Tiara.

Angela Jones suspended after Eagle Farm treble which hurts her premiership hopes
Angela Jones ' Eagle Farm treble saw her snatch the lead in the Brisbane jockeys' premiership, but her title hopes were dented by a suspension from the Group 1 Tatt's Tiara. Jones' tremendous trio of winners gave her a one-win lead over good friend and fellow jockey Emily Lang. But there was a sting in the tail late in the day with stewards grilling Jones over her ride on fifth-placed favourite Floozie in the Group 1. Stewards also had winning jockey Tom Sherry in the room, in an inquiry into Jones shifting out on Floozie and Sherry shifting in on winner Tashi, going past the 200m mark. Runner-up Abounding and roughie Bubba's Bay were the meat in the sandwich in the incident. Jones pleaded not guilty, insisting to stewards that the shift from Sherry on Tashi had 'more than half'' the bearing on the interference. 'I don't think it's worthy of a charge,' Jones said. Stewards disagreed, charging Jones with careless riding and suspending her for 10 days to start after next Saturday's Winx Guineas meeting on the Sunshine Coast. The riding ban is the last thing Jones needed on the day she hit the lead in the Brisbane premiership race and she seems almost certain to appeal to the Queensland Racing Appeals Panel. Immediately after imposing Jones' suspension, stewards had Sherry back in the room. They found he was only 20 per cent culpable for the incident and issued the former Irishman with a severe reprimand. It somewhat soured a great day for Jones, who also surged past 100 winners for the Australian racing season.

Reece Walsh stars in Origin audition amid Warriors' double injury blow
The Broncos beat the Warriors 26-12 on the back of a starring display from Reece Walsh in his Origin audition amid two big injury blows for the visitors at Suncorp Stadium. Walsh finished with 103 metres, five tackle busts, two offloads, a linebreak assist and a try assist to put his hand up to replace the injured Kalyn Ponga in game three. The Warriors lost their second straight game with the defeat compounded by injuries to fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and halfback Luke Metcalf. Adam Reynolds produced a pinpoint grubber for Kotoni Staggs to dive over and give the Broncos an early lead. Later, Ezra Mam came up with a pinpoint cut-out pass to put Josiah Karapani over for his fifth try in three games to extend the Broncos' lead. The Warriors gifted the Broncos a penalty goal from a ruck infringement allowing Reynolds to make it 12-0 to the home side. Metcalf looked to have set up a try for halves partner Chanel Harris-Tavita, but replays showed he didn't get the ball down. Walsh, in his State of Origin audition, then produced a perfectly timed short ball to put Gehamat Shibasaki over on the stroke of half-time as the Broncos took a commanding lead. Making matters worse for the Warriors, Nicoll-Klokstad later suffered a knee injury trying to make a tackle on Shibasaki and did not return after half-time. But the Warriors, as they have done all season, fought through the adversity as Adam Pompey produced the last pass for Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to score in the corner after a brilliant long ball from Metcalf in the lead up as the Warriors got on the board. Walsh was then taken out chasing a Reynolds kick gifting the Broncos a penalty goal to make it 20-6, even though the Brisbane fullback appeared off-side. While Brisbane looked to be cruising at that point, Leka Halasmia then soared high to latch onto a kick from Harris-Tavita to give the Warriors a sniff at a late comeback. But then in a further blow for the Warriors, Metcalf came from the field with a knee injury as Brendan Piakura was placed on report for a late hit on the halfback. Mam and Reynolds combined to put Shibasaki over for a double as the Broncos sealed their third straight win to move back to fifth on the ladder. WALSH STAMPS ORIGIN CLAIMS With Ponga sensationally ruled out of the Origin decider because of a lisfranc injury suffered on Friday night, Walsh is right in the frame to earn a recall to the rep arena. Walsh is only a few weeks back from a PCL injury, which was still giving him a little bit of grief last week, but since he's returned, his form has been very good. Against the Warriors, Walsh was very lively. 'That was probably Walsh's best game of the season,' Michael Ennis said. 'Things were happening around Reece Walsh today.' For Maroons coach Billy Slater, his two fullback options to replace Ponga are Walsh or shifting Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow from the wing. After the Broncos star's performance against the Warriors, you'd have to think Slater will be leaning heavily towards Walsh.
