'New star flyweight?': 'TUF 33' fighter promises Dana White he's the real deal after nasty KO
Could Alibi Idiris be the future of the UFC flyweight division?
If you ask him, he sure thinks so.
In his "The Ultimate Fighter 33" semifinal bout that aired Wednesday on ESPN/ESPN+, Idiris (10-0) made quick work of Goat Shed product Roybert Echeverria (10-2) with a flying knee knockout in Round 1.
Immediately after the victory, Kazakhstan's Idiris ran to Dana White to let him know what's what.
"I want bonus from you, bro," Idiris said through the cage to White. "My name is Alibi Idiris. I have 12 wins, no losses. I'm the new star flyweight."
Idiris, 25, has a knack for the violent attack. While this bout was an exhibition, his two most recent professional wins have come in brutal fashion, including this spinning back kick.

Idiris will now compete in the "TUF 33" flyweight final, which is expected to take place on the UFC 319 undercard Aug. 16 in Chicago, according to multiple sources who informed MMA Junkie of the plans. He'll face the winner of Imanol Rodriguez (5-0) vs. Joseph Morales (12-2).

49ers add former top 10 pick to help with CB depth after injury to starter
The San Francisco 49ers are adding some intriguing depth at cornerback after an injury to one of their starters left them shorthanded. ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday reported former New York Giants No. 10 overall pick Eli Apple is signing with the 49ers on a one-year contract. Apple, 29, will get an opportunity at CB with Renardo Green dealing with a hamstring injury. It's been a tumultuous nine-year career for Apple, who has been on six teams during that stretch. He spent two-and-a-half years with the Giants before joining the New Orleans Saints. He was there for a year-and-a-half, then signed with the Carolina Panthers for a year. He was with the Cincinnati Bengals for two seasons and then with the Miami Dolphins in 2023, and the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024. Apple has played in only 14 games with four starts over the last two years. He has 10 pass breakups, one interception and 48 tackles in that stretch. For his career the former first-rounder has six interceptions and 61 pass breakups in 102 games (82 starts). According to Pro Football Focus he has allowed 32 touchdowns and allows a quarterback rating of 100.4 when targeted. He'll now join a cornerback group that has a ton of uncertainty. Green isn't expected to miss a ton of time. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said he anticipates he'll be back for the second week of the preseason in mid-August, but the 49ers need more CBs to take some practice reps. However, given the murkiness on the depth chart, there's a real chance Apple could play his way into the conversation for a roster spot if he steps into a young CB room and performs in camp and the preseason. Stephen Thompson responds to Muslim Salikhov's 'old guys' callout at UFC on ABC 9
Stephen Thompson is down for a matchup of the oldest active fighters in the welterweight division after being called out at UFC on ABC 9. Following a 42-second upset knockout of Carlos Leal on Saturday's card in Abu Dhabi, Muslim Salikhov called for a showdown against Thompson (17-9-1 MMA, 12-9-1 UFC) in what would be a pairing of two of the division's most decorated strikers. Browns QB Kenny Pickett injured his hamstring near the end of Saturday's practice and is expected to re-evaluate the injury later this week, per sources. The Steelers traded Pickett to the Eagles last offseason — who then sent him to the Browns, where he's involved in a four-way competition for the starting QB position in Cleveland. Pickett was splitting reps with QBs Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders for the Browns' starting spot — and despite a strong early showing at camp, the ex-Steeler will likely fight an uphill battle for the job while nursing his hamstring. Here's to hoping the former first-rounder can return quickly and earn the role for Cleveland — as the Week 6 revenge game, when the Browns visit Pittsburgh, hinges on Pickett under center.
