Harrowing footage shows American Airlines plane ‘on fire'
At least one person was injured when a plane departing Denver International Airport, US, was forced to abort takeoff due to a landing gear failure. This caused passengers to flee the flaming and smoking aircraft on an inflatable emergency slide in a chaotic scene captured on harrowing video, the New York Post reported. American Airlines Flight 3023 had a landing gear incident as it was taking off for Miami around 2:45pm local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. 'Flight 2023, you got a lot of smoke,' an air traffic controller can be heard telling the pilot in cockpit audio from Live ATC, local news site 9News reported. 'There was some flames. Looks like the smoke is dying down a bit,' they said. 'You are actually on fire,' the controller quickly added moments later. Video showed passengers frantically sliding down an inflatable safety slide as thick black smoke billowed from flames engulfing the rear left side of the aircraft. The Denver Fire Department announced it had extinguished the blaze in a social media post at 5:10pm local time. The airline said there was an issue specifically involving the Boeing 737 MAX 8's tire, Denver 7 reported. All 173 passengers and six crew members evacuated the plane 'safely,' American Airlines said in its statement. Six people were evaluated for minor injuries, with one transported to a local hospital after deplaning, according to Denver 7. 'All customers and crew deplaned safely, and the aircraft was taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team,' American Airlines said in a statement. 'We thank our team members for their professionalism and apologise to our customers for their experience.' Passengers were expected to depart for Miami on another aircraft on Saturday, the carried added.

Scott also took a short break from his role at Collingwood, but returned to his duties last month. And earlier this week it was revealed that Selwood would return for Sunday's clash between St Kilda and Melbourne, much to the delight of fans. 'Great to see you back doing what you love,' one fan wrote on Facebook in response to the news. 'Great to see Joel returning we have missed you Joel,' another said. 'So brave, welcome back! Love and prayers for you and your family love you Joel,' a third added. While a fourth wrote on X during the first quarter: 'Good to hear Joel Selwood in Comms again this afternoon. Lots of love on your return.' Joel Selwood's touching tributes to twin brothers Following the death of Adam, Joel wrote a touching tribute message on social media. 'Rest up, love you brother. Look after each other'. It came after his heartfelt speech at Troy's speech in February. 'He was dealt some pretty tough cards over his lifetime. Some he found a way to deal with, but sadly, there were others, no matter how hard he tried, he could never fully control – and he did try,' Joel said. 'He tried so hard. He put up a hell of a fight for mum and dad, for his kids, for his brothers, for his friends and for others who are fighting the same fight, just as he was. 'He fought for all of us. 'He wanted to keep fighting, as he always did in life, but in the end, he simply couldn't lift his arms to throw another punch back. He'll be missed by so many.'

AFL world stunned by truly bizarre scenes as Port star Miles Bergman kicks it the wrong way
Port Adelaide star Miles Bergman has made an all-time howler, inexplicably kicking the ball the wrong way off the opening bounce. In a truly bizarre start to Saturday night's showdown between Port Adelaide and Adelaide, the 23-year-old latched onto the loose ball in the opening seconds and hoofed it downfield. The only problem is that he kicked it in the completely wrong direction. To make matters worse, it landed straight into the grateful lap of Adelaide forward Darcy Fogarty. setting him up for an easy shot at goal. 'He's kicked it the wrong way. This is hard to believe,' Dwayne Russell said in Fox Sports commentary. 'I've never seen a professional do that. That is incredible. 'Imagine Neil Armstrong saying, 'Sorry, boys, I think I've gone the wrong way'.' But incredibly, from right in front, the ever-consistent Fogarty then missed the easy chance. 'This just might set the scene for something quite extraordinary. So we've had a 60-metre wrong kick, and then Darcy Fogarty, who never misses, just slides one to the right,' AFL legend Garry Lyon added. Around the ground, the crowd was equally stunned. 'I tell you what, guys, the crowd down here were absolutely stunned as well, not just you guys,' Shaun Burgoyne said. 'But they didn't know what we were actually watching, just then.' While fans were also quick to give it to Bergman online. 'That is unforgivable. What a Wally,' one fan wrote. 'Opening clearance of the Showdown and Miles Bergman delivers a perfect pass … to Darcy Fogarty in Adelaide's forward line. Horror first moment, got completely confused,' another said. While a third wrote: 'You'd think he might pay attention to which way we are going! Sums up our season'.
