Oman Airports signs Partnership with Karbala Int'l Airport Investor
Oman Airports has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Taiba Karbala, the investor behind the Karbala International Airport project.
The agreement covers the preparation, equipping, and initial operation of Karbala International Airport, one of Iraq's key aviation infrastructure projects.
The agreement was signed by Oman's Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology and Chairman of Oman Airports, Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, and Mr. Hassan Rashid Jawad Al Abayaji, Chairman of Taiba Karbala.
Under the agreement, Omani technical, administrative, and operational teams will be stationed in Karbala for 15 months to oversee the initial phase, ensuring smooth airport operations in line with global aviation standards while training the airport's local workforce.
Karbala International Airport, located strategically between Karbala and Najaf, is set to accommodate 2 million passengers in its first phase, expanding to 6 million in the second, and ultimately reaching 20 million upon full completion.

On 12 July 2025, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) welcomed 524 young participants from Egypt, Iraq, and Lebanon to the Japan-funded "RISE LAB: Igniting Youth Potential through Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Economic Resilience" training programme. Designed as a multi-phase approach, this programme aims to empower motivated entrepreneurs and leaders, both men and women, from Egypt, Iraq, and Lebanon, who are eager to create and implement innovative local solutions to enhance food security and improve the broader private sector. Thanks to the support of the Government and People of Japan, this capacity-building programme is provided free of charge. The 524 participants, aged between 18 and 40, come from diverse backgrounds in the three countries: 291 participants from Iraq, 123 from Egypt, and 110 from Lebanon. The flexible online learning format encourages inclusive participation, allowing participants to learn from anywhere at any time. The first phase of the programme runs online from July to August 2025. This phase focuses on helping participants develop practical skills and competencies to establish their businesses through interactive online modules, expert-led webinars, and peer-to-peer exchanges. The programme is implemented by the Resilient Ideas and Sustainable Entrepreneurship Lab team (RISE LAB) , whose main programmatic focus is sustainable entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, financial literacy, and digital literacy. KBR Secures Two-Year Contract Extension at Majnoon Oil Field

KBR has announced the renewal of its engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) contract with Basra Oil Company (BOC) for the Majnoon oil field in Iraq, extending the agreement for another two years. Iraqi Cabinet Approves Measures on Kurdish Oil Delivery

The Iraqi Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, held an emergency session on Thursday and issued a series of binding decisions regarding oil production and financial coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). In a major development, the Cabinet approved the immediate transfer of all oil produced in the Kurdistan Region to Iraq's State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) for export. The federal government will provide the KRG with an advance of $16 per barrel (in-kind or in cash), based on a minimum delivery of 230,000 barrels per day (bpd), with any additional production to be included under the same mechanism. Current production stands at 280,000 bpd, of which 50,000 bpd is reserved for local consumption within the Region. The remaining 230,000 bpd, along with any future increases, will be delivered to SOMO. Should exports stop for any reason, the KRG must deliver the full quantity to the Federal Ministry of Oil instead. The KRG will also be responsible for the production and transport costs of the 50,000 bpd used locally, while revenues from sales of refined products will be transferred to the federal treasury after deducting those costs. Additional financial decisions included: The KRG must deliver 120 billion Iraqi dinars as a preliminary estimate of May's non-oil revenue share. A joint auditing team will verify and classify non-oil revenues from May 2025 onward. A new joint committee will oversee the localisation of salaries in the Region within three months, as required by a federal court ruling. A separate team will assess any excess in actual spending relative to the KRG's budget share for 2023-2025. May salaries for KRG employees will be disbursed after SOMO confirms receipt of the 230,000 bpd via the Ceyhan terminal. All timelines specified in this resolution are effective from the date of the Cabinet's approval. (Source: PMO)
