Belfast 5G mast set alight in suspected deliberate attack
The incident happened in the Springbank Industrial estate in Dunmurry on Saturday.

A police spokesperson said they received a report shortly after 2.40pm that a 5G mast has been set alight in the area.
'Colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire,' they said.
'Inquiries are continuing and at this stage, the fire is being treated as deliberate ignition.
'We are appealing to anyone who was in the area and who may have information, dash-cam or other footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 801 07/06/25.'

Sinn Féin West Belfast MP Paul Maskey condemned the incident.
'I want to strongly condemn the latest suspected arson attack on a 5G mast,' he said.
'This behaviour is both ludicrous and absolutely nonsensical.
'Just a few weeks ago, Sinn Fein published the results of a survey highlighting widespread mobile signal black spots across the west of the city — some of which are due to damage caused to masts.

'We will continue our efforts to secure better mobile coverage for our communities.
'Those responsible for this disgraceful vandalism must be brought to justice, and I urge anyone with information to come forward and contact the PSNI.'

A WOMAN who torched a neighbour's Land Rover because she thought his badgers killed a local cat has been spared jail. Graham Lee, 56, saw his Freelander destroyed as his furious neighbour attempted to kill the badgers living on his driveway. 5 5 5 Susan Lupton, 63, dubbed her neighbour the "evil badger man" as she believed the animals he cared for had killed another neighbour's pet cat. The arson took place at the coastal village of Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight, causing £18,500 worth of damages with Lee's Freelander destroyed. Another property was also damaged as the blaze spread to a neighbouring house. Police arrived to Lupton, who has bipolar disorder, having a manic episode, telling officers: "I did it, I'm responsible". She has avoided prison after admitting two counts of arson but has been banned from the area. Isle of Wight Court heard how Lupton set fire to Lee's Land Rover on June 20, 2024. She had set fire to a plastic container filled with white spirit before sliding it under the Freelander, according to prosecutor Joanna Staples. The vehicle was completely gutted and a window, guttering, cooker extractor and a tree were all damaged beyond repair on a neighbouring property. Lee, a wildlife volunteer, would leave food out for the badgers on his driveway, tried to put out the blaze himself before firefighters arrived. The badgers haven't returned to the property since the fire, he said. Lupton, who moved to the UK from South Africa in 1980, told police she had started the fire in an attempt to kill the badgers he was looking after. She believed they had killed a cat owned by another neighbour. Lupton also claimed she had learnt how to start the fire from a firefighter friend. The court heard how she had shared posts on her Facebook page claiming Lee was an "evil badger man". He added how she had left him constantly checking his security cameras out of fear she may appear on his driveway with some matches. Lee went on to add that his Land Rover was his "pride and joy" and said Lupton's actions had ruined his life. He told the court that Lupton has posted videos online of her throwing bricks at badgers and lacing bowls of food with glass. Neighbour Kavita Hayton, whose home was damaged by the incident, said the attack had left her "genuinely frightened" and in "a state of fear for many months". Lupton's barrister Jonathan Underhill told the court that Lupton had a single conviction for criminal damage on her record and that she had bipolar disorder. He asked the judge to give Lupton a suspended sentence to help with her rehabilitation. Judge James Newton-Price said the victims had suffered a "terrifying experience" and Lupton had developed a "fixation" and had become "irrationally obsessed". The judge added during sentencing: "You say you are horrified for what you've done. "I believe you have a realistic prospect of rehabilitation, and that imprisonment would reverse your progress." Lupton was ordered to pay costs of £1,000 and compensation of £7,835. She was handed two years' imprisonment, suspended for two years and was given a restraining order to stay away from Lee. THE Tattle Life website has been used for years to spread nasty gossip about celebrities and influencers alike. But since its anonymous owner was outed in a Northern Irish court last month, victims of the forums have finally spoken out against the abuse they've endured, including Emily Clarkson. 3 Speaking on her podcast Should I Delete That? with co-host Alex Light, Jeremy Clarkson 's eldest daughter has shared the lengths she went to in an attempt to uncover the trolls targeting her and her family. Englishman, Sebastian Bond, lost his right to anonymity in the courts after he was successfully sued for defamation as the website's founder. The site which attracted 12 million visitors a month was launched seven years ago and supposedly aimed at exposing disingenuous influencers, but has earned the name of a 'troll site; to abuse anyone they see fit.' And Emily was one of thousands of celebrities targeted by people hiding under anonymous accounts to spread hate and abuse. Speaking on the podcast, Emily said: "Tattle has been the biggest thorn in our sides. "You and I, Al, have genuinely been heartbroken by this; it's affected me to the point where I've had to block it on all devices. Emily revealed she has to get those close to her to check the site every few weeks just to ensure images of her kids and her home address wasn't leaked. "I was so broken by it, I haven't been able to check it since Arlo was born, if they say anything bad about my kids I'm gonna die" she continued. Emily made the point that not only did the comments hurt her but could also affect future work partnerships and relationships, and the platform never gave those targeted a chance to defend themselves. Since it was created in 2017, the founder of Tattle Life was anonymous, but it was found out after fashion brand owner Donna Sands and her husband Neil took the owner to court in Northern Ireland, Sebastian's identity was lifted. Thanks to The Sands, who were targeted by those on the site, Sebastian was found to be the anonymous founder and they have been awarded £150,000 each.

Young woman (20s) and six-year-old girl dead after Donegal road crash
A woman aged in her 20s has died from injuries sustained in a crash in Co Donegal which also killed a six-year-old girl. The collision, involving a van and a car, took place on the R240 at Carrowmore in Glentogher, Carndonagh, before 6.30pm on Wednesday. Advertisement Gardaí said on Wednesday that a six-year-old child had died and several other people had been injured. On Thursday evening, they said the driver of the car, a woman aged in her 20s, died after being transported for treatment at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Another girl, who was a rear passenger, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Royal Victoria Hospital. A man in his 30s, who was the front seat passenger, is also being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry. A spokesperson said: 'Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday July 2 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí. 'Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station at 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.' The road has since reopened following a technical examination. Cllr Doherty said the road in question has been the scene of previous fatal accidents. "In the community there's a shock and a disbelief. Now one can only imagine what the family are going through and I witnessed the pain in the hospital last night. I remember being present in Buncrana when there was a series of multiple deaths there between 2005 and 2008. And once again, tragedy has struck our people, and I'm quite sure it revives many painful memories for many people. "I just can't find words to express how people will feel today and how I personally feel too having been involved in some of them in the past."
