Iraqi Oil Tanker in Collision at Umm Qasr Port
The Iraqi Oil Tanker Company (IOTC) has confirmed that the oil tanker ' Akkad ' was involved in a collision at Berth 9 in Umm Qasr Port on 29th March 2025, with no reported injuries.
Following the incident, Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghani directed the formation of a technical investigation committee to determine the cause of the accident. Specialized technical teams are assessing the damage and carrying out necessary repairs, ensuring that the vessel continues its scheduled delivery without delay.
The company emphasized that such incidents are part of global maritime operations due to various operational factors and that it is adhering to international safety protocols set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It also reaffirmed that all crew members hold certified maritime qualifications, ensuring competent and professional tanker operations.
Iraq's Oil Tanker Company reiterated its commitment to maintaining the safety of waterways and enhancing security measures to ensure uninterrupted maritime operations in line with international standards.
The Akkad, which was launched just a year ago, has a capacity of 32,000 tons, and measures 184 meters in length and 32 meters in width.

Thanks to the support of the Government and People of Japan, this capacity-building programme is provided free of charge. The 524 participants, aged between 18 and 40, come from diverse backgrounds in the three countries: 291 participants from Iraq, 123 from Egypt, and 110 from Lebanon. The flexible online learning format encourages inclusive participation, allowing participants to learn from anywhere at any time. The first phase of the programme runs online from July to August 2025. This phase focuses on helping participants develop practical skills and competencies to establish their businesses through interactive online modules, expert-led webinars, and peer-to-peer exchanges. The programme is implemented by the Resilient Ideas and Sustainable Entrepreneurship Lab team (RISE LAB) , whose main programmatic focus is sustainable entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, financial literacy, and digital literacy. KBR Secures Two-Year Contract Extension at Majnoon Oil Field

Iraq fast-tracks DS2 project at Majnoon oil field
Shafaq News – Basra On Saturday, the Iraqi Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghani inspected the Majnoon oil field in Basra province to assess progress on projects implemented under national management. According to a statement by the ministry, Abdul Ghani reviewed progress at the DS2 processing station, which is 85% complete and expected to be finalized by the end of this year. DS2 refers to a processing facility located within major oil fields in Iraq, notably Rumaila and Majnoon. It plays a vital role in the early stage of production by separating oil, gas, and water extracted from underground reservoirs. During a meeting attended by members of parliament, he stressed that strategic development projects are essential for boosting crude oil output and advancing gas sector investment.
