A 14-year-old girl was abducted, raped, and left near her school in Langa on Tuesday morning.
The incident has prompted urgent calls for parents to accompany their children to and from school.
The Langa Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Forum issued an alert to the community following the incident.
Anele Gqasana, GBV programme coordinator for Projects Manager Langa, said support would be provided to the victim's family.
A woman who found the girl after the attack said the child was visibly traumatised.
'I met the girl who said, 'Sisi, can you please help me?' She told me she had been raped by men and then dropped off near a school,' the woman said.
She took the girl to her school.
Gqasana expressed fears that the perpetrator could strike again and urged vigilance.
Parents are advised to monitor their children's movements closely.
'I received information about this on Tuesday morning. The person who reported this to us was a parent who witnessed this.
'I quickly referred the case to Langa SAPS, and the Bishop Lavis police took over. We then issued the alert for parents about this to the safety forum. We will support the family," Gqasana said.
'This was an alarming incident; we fear it could happen again. We don't know who this man is, but we hope the police will investigate and arrest him because there are CCTV cameras all around.'

Alexandra community safety structure dissolved amid internal misunderstandings

The Alexandra Community Policing Forum (CPF) has been dissolved, following 'misunderstanding among executives,' inactiveness of certain members and a breakdown in dialogue between its executives and Station Commander Brigadier Vusumuzi Ngubane. Brigadier Ngubane stated that he dissolved the forum after trying unsuccessfully to mediate tensions between CPF executives. 'I have been trying to solve this thing, but it looks like it is getting out of hand. I called the executives of the CPF, the sectors, and the members representing the community. We were discussing a way forward, but when we discussed, members were not happy about certain things, and they did not want to talk about it.' Also read: Alex CPF concerned about GBV victims' reluctance to press charges Reports emerged on social media claiming the forum was dissolved after a failed attempt to oust Ngubane, but CPF chairperson Sarah Matomeamohale rejected the claims. 'There is nothing like that. It is a lie. That they were not trying to remove the station commander,' Matomeamohale said. Asked if she knew anything about the disbandment of the CPF, she said that she was not told anything about that. Ngubane attributed the decision to dissolve the whole structure of the CPF to a myriad of issues, including inactive members, absenteeism, and growing misunderstandings. He said that sectors must have monthly meetings and activities meant to address crime, but that was not happening. 'In our monthly meetings with the detectives, the station commander, and the VISPOL, we raised issues that we must have a constitution, community safety plan and Imbizo in our community, and all those things were not happening.' Ngubane confirmed that the forum has been dissolved 'until further notice,' with the matter now referred to the district office and the MEC. A new structure will be formed from the ground up, starting with sector elections to appoint fresh CPF executives. In the meantime, an interim structure is expected to oversee CPF operations. Mbenenge tells tribunal he believes he was 'being led on' by Mengo

JOHANNESBURG - Eastern Cape top judge, Selby Mbenenge, has told the body investigating sexual harassment allegations against him that his junior staffer, Andiswa Mengo, led him on. The judge president has alleged that Mengo did not reject him when he made advances towards her, leading to a flirtatious relationship between them. Mbenenge was cross-examined before the Judicial Conduct Tribunal sitting in Sandton, Johannesburg on Wednesday. She was trying to cope, meaning she did not want to talk." Mbenenge: "No, that's not." Scheepers: "She does not want to say things." Mbenenge: "No, no, that's not what it means." Scheepers: "It can mean that. It can mean that some things are better not said because she knew that she had to respect you." However, Mbenenge said that the messages from the complainant did not suggest this. "I disagree with the interpretation that you are giving from the perspective that I am saying, insofar as whether these chats were welcome or unwelcome, I have not come across anything that was conveyed to me that should make me believe that it was unwelcome. I don't regard what she is saying there as a rebuff. On the contrary, I believe that I was being led on."

Police arrested Sanele Fakudze after a woman was found injured and her daughter's charred body discovered near Kaapmuiden. Police in Mpumalanga have arrested a suspect from Eswatini after a woman was found injured and her daughter's burnt body was discovered near Kaapmuiden. Police detectives at Kanyamazane achieved a breakthrough in a case involving child murder, attempted murder, and perjury that occurred on 27 June. Police arrested 37-year-old Sanele Fakudze from the Kingdom of Eswatini in connection with the incident. Relatives initially reported the 28-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter missing at Kanyamazane Police Station in Mpumalanga. Mother and 4-year-old child missing Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said a report indicated the two were last seen entering the suspect's vehicle. Fakudze is said to be the woman's male friend. 'On 28 June 2025, the woman was found by community members, lying next to the road in Kaapmuiden. She was unconscious, and these good Samaritans called for assistance from the emergency services and the police,' Mdhluli said. 'She was then taken to the hospital for medical treatment, and police later discovered that she is the woman that they were looking for.'
