Suniel Shetty comes out swinging over alleged ‘smear campaign' targeting son Ahan ahead of Border 2 release
The younger Shetty, who is currently working on Border 2 - a sequel to the iconic 1997 war film in which Suniel played a defining role - is allegedly facing industry backlash for prioritising the patriotic project over other film offers.
Speaking to Zoom Entertainment, Suniel Shetty warned that he would not stay silent if the negativity continues, and made it clear that he would expose the individuals responsible for sabotaging Ahan's career.
'If this continues, I will hold a press conference and expose each and every person's name. Jiski dhajjiyan udani hain, uda dunga. That child's obsession is Border,' he declared.
According to Shetty, Ahan had several film offers on the table but chose Border 2 due to its emotional and national significance. Suniel revealed that he advised his son to treat the film as if it were his final role - so lasting and iconic is the legacy of the original Border, which continues to be revisited on national holidays like Independence Day and Republic Day.
'He missed out on a lot because of the ego of others. He was thrown out of those films, and he was blamed for it in the press. They said that he has a 10-person entourage; people paid lots of money to get negative articles written about him,' said Suniel.
What particularly angers Shetty is the suggestion that Ahan maintains a large entourage - something he attributes to jealousy from those upset over the younger actor's decision to prioritise Border 2. Suniel suggested that the negativity was orchestrated to damage Ahan's image and pave the way for competing projects.
Dismissing any claims of entitlement or nepotism, Suniel added, 'I still pay for my own food. I spend my own money to this day, not the producer's. And that's how Ahan has been raised. Do you think I don't have connections? Do you think I can't do the same thing?'
Border 2 was announced on June 13, 2024. It was revealed that Sunny Deol will be returning in the sequel. The film will be helmed by Kesari director Anurag Singh, and will also feature Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, and Kapil Sharma, in the lead roles.
The film is scheduled to release on Republic Day 2026.

Suniel Shetty shared a memorable experience shooting 'To Chalun' from Border, revealing initial nervousness about the song's sensitive nature. A passing MIG jet inspired a key scene, symbolizing duty above all. Adding to the emotional intensity, Shetty was deeply concerned about his young daughter Athiya's high fever, ensuring her safe return to Mumbai amidst a storm while filming the song. Suniel Shetty recently opened up about one of the most memorable moments of his film career—shooting the romantic track To Chalun from Border (1997). While the film is known for its patriotic intensity, Shetty revealed that the emotional depth of this particular song, coupled with a personal crisis involving his young daughter Athiya, has etched it in his memory forever. Nervous About Shooting a 'Suhaagraat' Song While speaking on a podcast with Pinkvilla, Suniel shared that he was initially nervous about filming the 'suhaagraat' song To Chalun in Border (1997). However, once director JP Dutta narrated the track to him, Shetty knew only Dutta could handle it with such sensitivity. He called it the most memorable shoot of his career, praising the way it was beautifully filmed. Shetty also recalled a key moment during the shoot of To Chalun when the team was unsure how to portray the soldier's emotional farewell to his wife. As they discussed the scene, a MIG fighter jet flew overhead. That powerful visual gave director JP Dutta the clarity he needed, and he immediately knew how to frame the shot, Shetty revealed. Patriotism at the Core of the Scene Explaining how the scene unfolded, Suniel said that as his character looks up at the sky, the sound of the MIG symbolizes the ever-present call of duty. The soldier, reminded of his responsibilities, marches forward without looking back—reinforcing Border's central message that the nation comes above everything else. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elegant New Scooters For Seniors In 2024: The Prices May Surprise You Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Learn More Undo A Father's Worry Behind the Scenes He also recalled a personal moment that made the shoot even more unforgettable. Throughout the shoot, he kept calling to check if she had reached safely and was receiving proper care. He admitted he'll never forget that stressful night until he got confirmation from his wife Mana that Athiya was fine and under a doctor's care.

After his normal delivery remark, Suniel Shetty faces backlash once again for his ‘husband career banaega, wife should take care of kids' comment: 'He needs to stop talking...'
Suniel Shetty is facing backlash for his traditional views on marriage and parenting. He suggested wives should prioritize childcare while husbands focus on career building, sparking outrage online. This follows earlier criticism for his comments on C-sections. Social media users have deemed his views outdated and regressive, contrasting them with modern parenting ideals. After sparking outrage earlier this year for calling C-sections 'comfortable,' Suniel Shetty has once again found himself at the centre of a social media storm. His recent comments about marriage and parenting roles—suggesting wives should focus on raising children while husbands build their careers—have drawn sharp criticism online, with many accusing the actor of promoting regressive views. Views on Modern Marriages In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Suniel shared his views on modern-day marriages, suggesting that today's generation lacks patience in relationships. He explained that, over time, marriage becomes a compromise that requires mutual understanding and commitment. His remarks have stirred conversation and drawn mixed responses on social media. Netizens Call Out Sexist Undertones He further stated that once a child is born, it's important for the wife to understand that if the husband is focusing on building his career, she should primarily take care of the child. While he acknowledged the husband's role as well, he emphasized that modern life comes with a lot of pressure. The actor, who is gearing up for the new season of Hunter: Tootega Nahi Todega, admitted that much has changed over the years. He pointed out how the virtual world is now flooded with advice on parenting—dictating how to be a mother or father, what to eat, and how to live. Shetty's remarks didn't sit well with many, sparking backlash across social media platforms, including Reddit. Several users expressed disappointment and anger, calling his views regressive and out of touch with the realities of modern parenting and gender roles. Social Media Backlash While one user wrote, 'He needs to stop talking', another one added, 'Sometimes being quiet is the wisest thing, doesn't their PR team advice them ? or even people around them … Bro should learn from his damad (son-in-law)'. A user also commented, 'Don't get deceived by his looks or the kind of roles they play. Suniel is ultimately 60+ and has a mindset similar to many people in his age group. This stands true for his contemporaries too'. A user also commented, 'Still unacceptable. My dad's 65+ and more feminist than any of the men I know'. One mentioned, 'He has turned out to be such an unlikable person.' Earlier this year, Suniel Shetty faced criticism for his controversial comment about the 'comfort' of C-sections, after praising his daughter Athiya for opting for a natural delivery. Actor Gauahar Khan strongly reacted to his statement, calling it misinformed and irresponsible—especially coming from someone who hasn't experienced childbirth firsthand.

'I'd been doing the same c**p': Suniel Shetty says he felt the need to reinvent his career, became choosy
He has been around for over 30 years, and Suniel Shetty is still kicking butt. From his early days in hits like Balwaan and Vinashak, he established himself as an action star, one of the OGs. And today, at 63, he continues to be one. His newest outing, the second season of his web series Hunter, sees him indulge in some heavy-duty fight scenes. In a candid chat with Hindustan Times, the veteran star opens up on doing action in his 60s, how cinema has changed, and his own understanding of it as well. Suniel Shetty is starring in action series Hunter, performing his own stunts at age 63. On action films Suniel says that he has evolved as an action hero, understanding the nuances behind it now. "It's not just about the energy and power behind the action, but the presence of mind and understanding the situation. You have to make the action look better, making sure the action is backed with a solid situation," he says. On reinventing himself The actor, who has been active in Hindi cinema for 33 years, said he saw a real change in his approach after the COVID-19 pandemic. He explains, 'During the pandemic, I also had a 4-5 year break from my career. I watched so much that I became the end user. I started understanding cinema from the viewer's perspective. Then, I analysed my own actions and realised, 'I have been doing the same crap.' I decided to change that. It's about reinventing yourself after understanding what your negatives are.' But does that looking back also fill him with regret, when he sees work that was not up to the mark? The simple answer is no. The complex one, is slightly more detailed. Suniel explains, 'There are a lot of films I wouldn't do today, many roles I wouldn't do now. Samajh bhi nahi thi. Kabhi kabhi directors me capability nahi thi execute karne me un kahaniyon ko (I lacked the sense, and often directors lacked the capability to execute those stories). At the same time, I have done so many films and one has managed to survive, toh aage jo karenge soch-samajh ke karenge (now I do stuff after careful consideration). That's why I am very choosy with whatever little I get.' Suniel Shetty admits today he wouldn't do many films he did early in his career. On young action stars In Hunter season 2, Suniel Shetty goes up against Jackie Shroff, another star in his 60s. A couple of years ago, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan raised the roof with their joint action sequences in Pathaan and Tiger 3. Both were 57 then. These shows and films have led to a notion in the audience that the younger stars are just not 'good enough' to replace the OG action stars. Suniel Shetty does not agree. "The younger writers are not writing such scripts," he says, adding, "There are directors today; there were makers then. A maker is in love with his characters. If a Raj Kapoor made a film, he did it with that love. Manmohan Desai could convince you that Amar, Akbar, and Anthony can donate blood to their mother together. If you have scripts and characters that are convincing, then the audience accepts themou accept an Amitabh Bachchan saying 'main pheke hue paise nahi uthaata' and also an Allu Arjun saying 'main jhukega nahi'. The dialogue is the same, but the presentation is different. There are many young actors who are very good with their performances and can be as good in action. But you need to give them those characters." Hunter season 2 is currently streaming on Amazon MXPlayer.
