Oman LNG boosts market position with record output, new contracts
Hamad bin Mohammed al-Naamani, CEO of Oman LNG, confirmed that the company is preparing for a new phase of expansion with the commencement of long-term sales contracts this year, encompassing volumes from both Oman LNG and Qalhat LNG.
The company is prioritising advanced upgrades and maintenance to enhance its capabilities and surpass its 2024 achievements once these improvements are completed. This will position it at the forefront of gas producers globally, in terms of both performance and competitive cost.
In a statement to the Oman News Agency, Naamani said that 2024 marked a significant shift in the company's commercial strategy, with long-term sales contracts totalling 10.4mn metric tonnes per annum, providing a solid foundation for a diversified and flexible commercial portfolio.
He added that this strategy has enabled the company to strike a balance between long-term commitments and the agility to respond to immediate market opportunities. This approach has allowed the company to supply reliable energy to its partners while maximising added value, reinforcing Oman's role in supporting global energy security.
Regarding innovation and transformation in the energy sector, Naamani emphasised Oman LNG's commitment to supporting the sultanate's carbon neutrality targets by 2050. This includes investing in short-term efficiency improvements and implementing long-term emissions management programmes.
He noted that the company achieved its highest-ever energy efficiency rates in 2024 and was recognised with the 'Golden Path' award by the United Nations Environment Programme for its efforts to reduce methane emissions – both of which are key indicators of its dedication to low-carbon LNG production.
He pointed out that the company is investing in energy efficiency solutions that support a gradual reduction in emissions, relying on proven and highly cost-effective technologies. All investments aimed at reducing emissions undergo thorough and comprehensive evaluation.
The company is also investing in research and development projects in collaboration with local universities, including studies on hydrogen fusion and a pilot project focused on methane emissions – seen as a starting point for developing clean energy molecules. Naamani underlined that this approach balances enhancing current performance with preparing for a low-emissions future, positioning Oman LNG as a reliable partner in the global energy transition.
On the topic of safety and sustainability leadership, Naamani stated that last year the company recorded over 27mn work hours without a lost-time injury, with no operational safety incidents reported for more than 3,500 days.
Regarding social responsibility and national development, the company's CEO explained that Oman LNG remains committed to allocating 1.5% of its net income after tax to social investment. This includes support for key projects such as the Sur Maritime Museum, the Masar initiative to promote tourism, and the provision of advanced medical equipment to healthcare facilities, including MRI machines and kidney dialysis units. The company also prioritises human capital development through leadership academies, practical training for youth, and initiatives supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday imposing ' reciprocal tariffs ' ranging from 10 per cent to 41 per cent on dozens countries. The levies will take effect in seven days, the order said. For Middle East countries, Syria received one the heaviest tariffs at 41 per cent, as did Iraq at 35 per cent and Libya at 30 per cent. Jordan and Israel were both hit with 15 per cent. Trading partners not listed in Friday's executive order will be subject to a duty of 10 per cent. The White House said that Canada's tariffs would be raised to 35 per cent due to its 'continued inaction and retaliation'. Mr Trump announced the so-called retaliatory tariffs, which Washington says are aimed at addressing trade imbalances, in April. He then enacted a series of pauses to allow for trade negotiations. In recent weeks, the President has sent out dozens of letters to countries around the world inviting them to negotiate trade deals or be subject to tariffs. The US has recently struck deals with the EU, the UK, Japan and South Korea. 'President Trump is using tariffs as a necessary and powerful tool to put America First after many years of unsustainable trade deficits that threaten our economy and national security,' the White House said in a fact sheet.

Inaugural Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship gets underway in Al Ain
The inaugural Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025 will officially begin on Friday, August 1, at ADNEC Centre Al Ain. Organised by International Vision Sports Management (IVSM), the three-day event will run until August 3 and is expected to bring together hundreds of athletes from more than 20 countries to the Al Ain Region, Abu Dhabi. This initiative is held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT) and under the banner of Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP). Golar LNG Strengthens Africa Commitment as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Federico Petersen Joins African Energy Week (AEW) 2025 Speaker Lineup
Federico Petersen, Chief Commercial Officer of marine LNG infrastructure operator Golar LNG, has confirmed his participation as a speaker at African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025, taking place from September 29 to October 3 in Cape Town. His participation follows a series of landmark achievements across the continent, positioning Golar LNG at the forefront of Africa's natural gas revolution. In July 2025, the company announced that its Gimi floating LNG (FLNG) unit has reached commercial operations date under a 20-year lease-and-operate agreement for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project offshore Senegal and Mauritania. Backed by an estimated 15 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of natural gas, the Gimi facility will produce 2.4 million tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG, ramping up to its nameplate capacity of 2.7 mtpa. In Nigeria, Golar LNG signed a project development agreement in June 2024 with global energy company the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for the deployment of a new FLNG facility offshore the Niger Delta. With a planned processing capacity of 400-500 million standard cubic feet per day, the facility will produce LNG, LPG and condensate, with first gas targeted for 2027. The project falls under Nigeria's broader 'Decade of Gas' initiative, which aims to monetize the country's 209 tcf of gas reserves and accelerate energy access and industrial growth. Supported by reforms such as the Petroleum Industry Act and the Nigerian Gas Flaring Commercialization Program, the project is a critical step toward establishing Nigeria as a global gas hub. In Cameroon, Golar LNG operates the Hilli Episeyo FLNG facility offshore Kribi, which made history as the world's first LNG conversion and the project that introduced Cameroon as the world's 20 th LNG-exporting nation in 2018. In October 2023, the vessel offloaded its 100 th LNG cargo to the Energy Integrity, underscoring nearly six years of reliable operations. With a nameplate capacity of 2.4 mtpa and a strong track record of commercial uptime, Hilli Episeyo continues to serve as a benchmark for small- and mid-scale FLNG deployment. Golar LNG holds a 50% interest in Trains 1 and 2, with the facility enabling the monetization of associated gas while contributing to regional energy diversification and security.
