Max Clark's speed on display as former Franklin star, Detroit Tigers prospect plays in MLB Futures Game

Indianapolis Star17 hours ago
Max Clark wasted no time by creating the first highlight of the MLB All-Star Futures Game by using his wheels in the Atlanta heat.
The former Franklin baseball star and social media sensation is already rising through the Detroit Tigers system, promoted to Double-A Erie on July 7. He led off Saturday's Futures Game for the American League with a seven-pitch walk, taking a 2-2 changeup and then full-count curveball from JR Ritchie.
Clark further frustrated Ritchie by taking off as he came set, and swiped second to give the A.L. an immediate scoring threat with one out.
Baseball's No. 12 prospect, per MLB.com, and the No. 3 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft further showcased his speed with a ground ball to the right side of the infield, which reportedly took him 4.03 seconds to sprint from the left-handed batter's box to first base. It was just one of three hits for the A.L. in a 4-2 loss to the N.L.
Clark spent his first 68 games of the 2025 seasons with High-A West Michigan. He hit .285 with an .857 OPS, drawing 65 walks to go with seven home runs, 47 RBIs, 12 doubles and two triples. He was 12-for-14 when attempting to steal.
That was enough for the Tigers to promote the 20-year-old to Double-A Erie, where he's played three games and is 2-for-11 with a solo home run. He also was promoted with fellow top prospect Kevin McGonigle and Josue Briceno.
Insider: With a massive social media following, Max Clark hears the haters. He's ready to quiet them in Year 2

USC football countdown to kickoff continues—Tuli Tuipulotu in focus

The countdown to USC's 2025 football season is officially on! The Trojans kick off their new campaign 49 days from today. You need something to help you while away the days and hours in the spring and summer. This is one way to do so. In this new series, countdown to kickoff, we will be counting down the days by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number. Today, we look at former USC All-American defensive lineman Tuli Tuipulotu. Position: Defensive line Years played at USC: 2020-2022 Career highlights: Tuipulotu emerged as an immediate contributor on USC's defensive line as a true freshman in 2020. That year, he played alongside his older brother, Marlon. With Marlon off to the NFL in 2021, the younger Tuipulotu stepped up to help fill the void, earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors. In 2022, however, Tuipulotu took things to an entirely new level. That season, he recorded a remarkable 13.5 sacks, the most of any player in the country. In addition, he had 46 total tackles and two forced fumbles. Tuipulotu was named a Unanimous All-American and won Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, the Morris Trophy (given to the top lineman in the Pac-12 Conference, and the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year award. After USC: Following the 2022 season, Tuipulotu declared for the 2023 NFL Draft, where the Los Angeles Chargers selected him in the second round. It has not taken Tuipulotu long to emerge as a star at the professional level. After being named the PFWA All-Rookie team in 2023, he followed it up with an 8.5-sack campaign in 2024. Still just 22 years old, Tuipulotu appears to be one of the league's brightest young stars on the defensive line.

Giants legend Jeff Kent's son is in the 2025 MLB Draft

Jeff Kent was one of the more underrated hitters in the last quarter-century of baseball. He even won the NL MVP for the San Francisco Giants in 2000. Now, his son is trying to follow in his footsteps. Kaeden Kent is draft eligible. The shortstop at Texas A&M could be chosen in the draft that gets underway on Sunday. Advertisement The 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior started every game at shortstop for the Aggies this season. He's a legitimate prospect, having batted .279 with 13 doubles, 13 homers and 49 RBI. He had 19 multi-hit games this spring. He also hit a walk-off grand slam against South Carolina. MORE: Mariners' switch-pitcher shows off both arms at Futures Game Kent will surely be drafted. The only question is whether he signs or goes back to school for one more year. That'll depend likely on the money on the table, the team that takes him and what he feels he'd be going back to in the collegiate ranks.
