Ipswich Town Women fans disappointed over sold-out final game
Supporters of a woman's football team on the verge of promotion have been left disappointed after demand for tickets for their final match has outweighed stadium capacity.Ipswich Town Women take on Cheltenham Town Women on Sunday and are looking to clinch promotion to the Championship, the second tier of women's football, and all 2,150 tickets have been sold.The match is at the women's regular "home" ground at Felixstowe & Walton United, although they do sometimes play at Ipswich Town's Portman Road stadium, where their last match drew a crowd of more than 10,000.Felixstowe & Walton's director of operations, Chris Daynes, explained while Town had sold all their match tickets, some of his club's season ticket holders, who normally purchased or received complimentary Town Women tickets, had missed out.
Some supporters expressed their disappointment over the ticket situation online and questioned why had the match not been moved from the Martello Ground in Felixstowe to Portman Road, given the men's Ipswich Town team was not playing next weekend and did not have a Premier League home fixture until 10 May against Brentford."No disrespect to Felixstowe & Walton, but with the magnitude of the fixture and the occasion, it should have been switched to Portman Road," one fan said on Facebook.Others felt some fans had "jumped on the bandwagon" due to the likelihood of it being a promotion-winning match.
Another fan on social media, a Felixstowe & Walton regular, said while "disappointing" the situation was "understandable"."I've used the perk of my [Felixstowe & Walton] season tickets to watch ITFC Women with my daughter for quite a few games this season and previous, but I get that paying customers come first," they explained."Shame we didn't get an option to secure tickets, but hey ho."But others argued fans had had "plenty of time" to request tickets. "The ladies have played at the Martello Ground for all but one game this season," another fan argued."The tickets were available for many days before selling out. "The faithful regular supporters have attended throughout the season and will have claimed their tickets."The girls will have an incredible atmosphere to conclude their great season and earn a very well-deserved promotion."
Mr Daynes explained Town's games in Felixstowe were "always subject to capacity limits"."Supporters who purchase or receive complimentary season tickets for the Seasiders [Felixstowe & Walton] usually receive admission to ITFC Women home league games played at the Martello Ground as an added bonus, but this is always subject to capacity limits," he said."Ipswich Town have sold all 2,150 match tickets via their own ticketing website for next Sunday's match against Cheltenham Town and therefore stadium capacity has been reached before admission can be offered to F&WU season ticket holders."
'Hands are tied'
Mr Daynes added that "comprehensive data" from recent seasons showed an average of 32 of Felixstowe & Walton United season ticket holders used their card to attend women's games out of 800 season cards in circulation. He said it "would not have been feasible to ask ITFC" to keep enough capacity to cover these ticket holders.He added he had personally organised a number of tickets, "prioritising and contacting many of the regulars who support the women's games" which were distributed during a previous match on Friday."Unfortunately, demand has far outstripped capacity and although I understand the disappointment some will feel, our hands are tied and there will be no admission without a valid match ticket," Mr Daynes added.Town Women have played two games at Portman Road, including this season when they took on Plymouth Argyle in front of a record-breaking crowd of 10,807 last month, and another match the previous season, when 10,173 watched them beat Chatham Town 5-0.Ipswich Town has been approached for comment.

Brighton forward Joao Pedro is attracting interest from both Newcastle and Chelsea but Albion are ready to play hardball during transfer negotiations Brighton are seeking a £60million package to sanction Joao Pedro's exit. In the past week, the Seagulls have rebuffed an offer worth up to £50m from Newcastle for the Brazilian international forward. The Blues are believed to have held initial discussions, though it's not clear at this stage whether Chelsea are the mystery team that's lodged a bid and their interest could yet be linked to the future of Christopher Nkunku. Brighton signed Pedro from Watford in a deal worth just shy of £30m in the summer of 2023 and they're determined to double their money. The Hornets also have an undisclosed sell-on clause which is poised to impact Brighton's thinking at the negotiating table. Pedro, who has scored 30 goals in 70 Albion appearances, was banished from Fabian Hurzeler's squad for the final two Premier League matches of the season following an alleged training ground spat with Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke. He is a target of long-standing interest to Newcastle as they were keen on a move in August 2022 when talks were advanced over a £30m swoop. Now Eddie Howe's side will have to cough up twice that figure as Pedro's value has sky-rocketed after two seasons on the South Coast. Newcastle have ramped up talks for three key targets as they also continue to pursue moves for Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. An initial bid worth up to £45m including add-ons was knocked back by Forest for the former Manchester United winger but discussions are continuing between the parties. Meanwhile, Brighton have already brought in extra firepower at the top end of the pitch as they prepare to part company with Pedro. A £29.78m deal for Olympiakos forward Charalampos Kostoulas was completed earlier this month while fellow Greek talent Stefanos Tzimas is also due to arrive at the Amex from FC Nurnberg where he spent the second half of last season on loan. Manchester United are refusing to overpay for their biggest transfer targets this summer, which has reportedly led to a move for Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo breaking down Manchester United have reportedly given up in their pursuit of Antoine Semenyo - who was once dubbed a 'younger version' of Mohamed Salah - after refusing to meet Bournemouth 's asking price. Having already wrapped up the £62.5million signing of Matheus Cunha to kickstart their summer transfer activity, United are in the market for a more multi-functional forward. Fitting that description is Semenyo, though the move now appears to have crumbled. The Ghanaian winger's impressive 13 goals and seven assists this season sparked United's interest, with talkSPORT claiming the player held talks with the club over a potential Old Trafford move. But the same performances that caught United's attention have prompted Bournemouth to set the 25-year-old's transfer value at a whopping £70m. That figure is part of a wider trend seen this summer, where Premier League clubs are charging more for their players as the traditional big clubs shift their attention to signing players with experience in England's top flight. The i Paper reports that, in addition to United, Spurs showed the most interest in Semenyo, having stayed in contact with the Cherries after making an initial enquiry last week. But there's an increasing belief he will stay at Bournemouth, with the Red Devils, Spurs and Newcastle all unwilling to meet their hefty asking price after he recently agreed a new four-year deal with the club. United's reluctance to pay so much is a clear indication of their approach to the summer transfer window, where they are under financial constraints and will not splurge as recklessly as they have done in the past. For example, Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo has emerged as Ruben Amorim's top target over Semenyo, but the Red Devils only want him for a reasonable fee. Despite the Cameroonian's desire to join the Red Devils, United are yet to agree a deal with Brentford, who rejected a second bid of £55 million plus £7.5 million in bonuses for the 25-year-old. The Bees want at least the same fee United paid Wolves for Cunha up-front and it is still unclear whether the Red Devils will pay it. After missing out on European football next season, Amorim's transfer budget this summer is not as big as it might have been if he had won the Europa League final in May. However, United's latest financial results for the first three months of 2025 revealed a more encouraging picture despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe earlier this year suggesting the club was on course to run out of money by Christmas. It's understood that United will therefore look to complete the signing of Mbeumo to go alongside Cunha with their current finances. But they will need to sell the likes of Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony before making any further additions beyond Mbeumo. If United bank the fees they are looking for for the aforementioned players, they will secure somewhere in the region of £170m. It is not expected that Amorim will sign a third forward, with those funds set to be invested in other areas of the pitch. That will mean missing out on Semenyo, who, former United striker Michael Owen, encouraged Liverpool to buy back in March as a replacement for Salah, whose future at the time was still unclear. Owen claimed the versatile winger could be a suitable heir to the Egyptian at Anfield, saying: 'I like Antoine Semenyo at Bournemouth, who plays in the same position as Salah. I like him, a younger version, but definitely got energy, scoring capabilities and a good player.' He added: 'That being said, you can't replace Mo Salah. I mean if you said Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez went and Alexander Isak and Antoine Semenyo came then I don't think it's the worst swap in the world if we're playing fantasy football here, but realistically Liverpool want to keep hold of their best players and Mo Salah is their best player so hopefully he doesn't leave." Semenyo now looks set to stay at Bournemouth unless the club drop their valuation or the player tries to force a move through.

She said: 'The kids are really not happy about it because they have that last name. And so do I, legally!'. He launched private company 'More Better Industries' in 2024, and was part owner of Philadelphia bar 'Mac's Tavern,' which announced Monday it was closing after 15 years in business. McElhenney, 48, and fellow Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, 48, bought Wrexham football club in 2021. They have since been credited with a 50 per cent surge in visitors to the Welsh city after charting the club's rise to the Championship on Disney+ series Welcome to Wrexham. The show is a big hit in the US, where last month alone more than 300,000 people searched for Wrexham content on internet site Reddit. Tourism chiefs say it is part of the set-jet trend inspired by what people see on TV.
