NEWS OF THE WEEK: Matt Bomer reflects on being outed by tabloids: 'It felt kind of unfair'

Yahoo13-04-2025
During an interview for the Dinner's on Me podcast on Tuesday, the actor described how he was the subject of rumours in the media amid his rise to fame after landing the role of Neal Caffrey in the TV series White Collar back in 2009. "It was that time when folks could kind of take over your own personal narrative before you even had a chance to. I remember outlets talking about my personal life before I had ever had a chance to even do it myself. And it wasn't because I didn't want to, I didn't even have an opportunity to."

Katie Holmes Joshua Jackson Reunion Movie Best Reactions

That sound you hear? Well, it's thousands of Dawson's Creek fans absolutely losing their minds over Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson in the year 2025. Yesterday, photos emerged of Katie and Josh filming in NYC. The photos are extremely Pacey and Joey coded, which is why everyone started to freak out over what this could possibly be. Then, Deadline exclusively revealed that Katie and Josh are actually filming Happy Hours, a new film trilogy that Katie also wrote and is directing, with the Dawson's Creek duo starring in the film as the leads. According to the outlet, the trilogy will be filmed back to back. Alongside Katie and Joshua, the films are also set to star Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, Jack Martin, and more. Happy Hours is set to follow two people (Holmes and Jackson) who are navigating their relationship while also juggling their careers, families, and love. Per Deadline, the film is "a character-driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young loves who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope." It's worth noting that while also starring on Dawson's Creek together for six seasons from 1998 to 2003, Katie and Josh also reportedly dated for about a year early in the show's run. When asked about their relationship in a 1998 interview with Rolling Stone, Katie said, "I'm just going to say that I met somebody last year. I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always." Then, in 2003, Joshua publicly talked about their relationship, telling Conan O'Brien, "In the very beginning Katie and I did have a romance." Earlier this year, while appearing on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Dinner's on Me podcast, Joshua opened up about his friendships with his Dawson's Creek costars, including Katie, saying, "Busy [Philipps] and Michelle [Williams] are very, very close. And Katie and I are very close. It's not a daily call. Sometimes it's not a weekly or monthly or even a half-yearly call. But when you're together, A, there's always that, like, I know you know." He continued, "And B, there is, you know, these moments, like, these major moments in life are, like, other than your husband, there's probably no other people in your life that you are that forged to. Because you had to go through good and bad, and happy and fuck you, and dont talk to me, and I love you." Shortly after news of her new film trilogy broke, Katie posted on Instagram about the project, writing, "I am so very grateful to be working again with so many of my wonderful friends on this film HAPPY HOURS. And working with Josh after so many years is a testament to friendship. HAPPY HOURS is a love story that includes so many people I adore. We can't wait for everyone to see what we make." Busy, who starred on Dawson's Creek for two seasons as Audrey Liddell, commented on the post as well, sharing her excitement: And, just like Busy, fans — including myself — took to X, formerly Twitter, and Instagram to share their excitement over Katie and Joshua reuniting for this new romance trilogy. Here are some of the best responses: And finally: Well, we'll update you with more details as filming continues for Happy Hours, but until then, I will be liking every tweet, comment, and more with these photos because they are perfect. Fans are celebrating the "refreshing" honesty Raising Hope star Martha Plimpton offered up during an interview with Jesse Tyler Ferguson recently, where she opened up about the financial struggle she was facing before landing the role that earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy appearing on the Modern Family alum's podcast 'Dinner's on Me,' the actress revealed that she was flat broke leading into her starring role on the beloved sitcom. Just before booking the gig, she had a meeting with her accountant, where the two discussed the measly $300 she had to her name. "Something needs to happen," the financial pro told her. "I remember putting on Facebook, 'I'll babysit. I'll do anything.' At the time, I was friends with this woman and she almost responded too quickly—and too gleefully. 'I'd love to hire you if you could be in Brooklyn at 6 a.m. on Thursday morning!'" She begrudgingly accepted the offer, but that same week she found out she'd gotten the job on Raising Hope. Fans were flabbergasted by the Emmy Winner's (she took home the win for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series in 2012 for her work on The Good Wife) story, with one comment reading, "I hate hearing such talented people aren't bogged down with calls when they should be constantly busy and booked." Eiza González's Scrutiny Over Her Body Image As A Teen

Fountain of Youth star Eiza González shared how she was brought back to a difficult moment as a teenage actor when Millie Bobby Brown called out journalists for their "disturbing" comments about her appearance. During a May 26 appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's podcast Dinner's on Me, Eiza recalled facing scrutiny around her appearance like Millie did earlier this year. "It really made me sad because... when I was like a teenager, you know, I broke into the industry," Eiza recalled. From 2007-08, Eiza starred in a Mexican remake of the Argentine telenovela Floricienta called Lola, érase una vez (Lola: Once Upon a Time). "They were waiting for the reveal of this character, and I came on stage, and I sang a song, whatever," she recalled. "The next morning, I'm watching the version of Today Show in Mexico, and they're gonna talk about it. I'm like, I'm 14 'Oh my God, it's just happening, this is crazy.' I'm doing what I wanna do. And the presenters came on, and they're 40 and 50-year-olds, and they're like, 'Ugh, she's so ugly. She's so fat. They could have gotten anyone, like why would they get her?'" Eiza became a bit emotional as she recounted the harsh experience. "I remember even right now, I'm just like, 'Oh my God, it was just so jarring," she said. "And I was just like sitting there, like embarrassed with myself. Like even [now] it makes me tear up." Earlier, Eiza explained that she suffered a "deep depression" after the death of her father in a "tragic accident" when she was only 12, which made this experience even harder to navigate as a teen. "Now you become this child where you're chasing approval, and now you're like completely lost of identity. And you're also completely lost because you're mourning and you're grieving, so you're sad. And then I'm touring and having to smile and be a role model and pretend like I'm okay when everyone's bombarding you. What you're supposed to do, what you're not supposed to do." But, support from her "amazing mother" being there for her through it all helped Eiza persist. "I definitely got lost. I was very unkind to myself, my body, my thoughts, my soul, because I just never felt good enough," she continued. "And it's something that stays with you forever because it's sort of brands you, it marks you for life. And so it becomes a catch-up." Millie's clapback by calling out the "disgusting" headlines resonated with Eiza, reminding her of her own experience as a teenage actor. "I really identified with what she was saying because she was reading this, she was explaining about her terrifying [experience] and I just found that really interesting because she was talking about being a grown woman and sort of finding the way she wants to dress and act and be, and she doesn't have to do it under other people's terms. It's under her terms." If you remember, back in March, Millie, who started at age 12 on Stranger Things, faced nasty comments from certain media during her press tour for Electric State. On March 3, Millie called out the problematic headlines and discourse. "We always talk about supporting and uplifting young women, but when the time comes, it seems easier to tear them down for clicks. Disillusioned people can't handle seeing a girl become a woman on her terms, not theirs. I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can't handle seeing a girl become a woman. I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself," Millie wrote. It's truly heartbreaking that Millie, Eiza, and many entertainers of all ages experience such nasty critiques on their appearance, whether from social media or, in some cases, professional media. Hopefully, the fear of being called out by name will start deterring the culprits. Listen to the Dinner's On Me episode here.
