Two Auckland PAK'nSAVE supermarkets plead guilty to breaching Fair Trading Act

Two PAK'nSAVE supermarkets have pleaded guilty to breaching the Fair Trading Act.
The Commerce Commission said it filed charges against PAK'nSAVE Silverdale and PAK'nSAVE Mill St in the Auckland District Court.
It said they used inaccurate pricing and misleading specials that might have breached the Fair Trading Act.
PAK'nSAVE Silverdale entered guilty pleas on seven charges and was remanded without plea on three further charges.
PAK'nSAVE Mill Street entered guilty pleas on four charges and was remanded without plea on four further charges.
The maximum penalty for breaches of the Fair Trading Act is $600,000 for a business, per offence.
The Commerce Commission said it could not comment further while the case was before the courts.

Death of Auckland man Ronny Okeke referred to Coroner after body found in Kaimai Ranges with stab wound

Photo: Supplied / Police No one has been charged in relation to the death of an Auckland man who was found dead with a stab wound in the Kaimai Ranges over a year ago. Ronny Okeke was missing for 52 days after last being seen at the Mt Roskill New World Supermarket on April 27, 2024. Originally from Nigeria, the 60-year-old was the only member of his family to live in New Zealand. He had attempted to call his wife on the day he was last seen but the call went unanswered. His body was found in mid-June in the Kaimai Ranges, about 180km away from his Sandringham home. Despite police saying the circumstances of Okeke's disappearance were being investigated as suspicious after his body was found and him having a stab wound, his death has now been referred to the Coroner. Detective inspector Glenn Baldwin, from Auckland CIB, said initially the matter was investigated as a missing person, but once Okeke's body was found in the Kaimai Ranges it was elevated to being treated as "suspicious". A post-mortem exam of Okeke's body revealed he had suffered a non-fatal stab wound prior to his death, Baldwin said. It also indicated Okeke had been fatally injured after falling from a height. "There were also pre-existing health conditions that may have contributed," Baldwin said. "Following a careful and considered of the review of the evidence, no charges were laid in relation to Ronny's death." Police had since referred his death to the Coroner, Baldwin said, who would in time, issue findings into the circumstances of how Okeke died. Hamilton brawl: Police appeal for witnesses, vehicles of interest after 20-year-old killed

Photo: RNZ / Victor Waters Police are appealing to the public for help after a 20-year-old was killed following an altercation between two groups in Hamilton. Emergency services were called to the brawl on Alexandra Street shortly before midnight on 20 July. Tyreece Te Pairi was transported to hospital, where he sadly died a short time later. Police would like to hear from anyone who attended a hip hop event at Cloud 9 Bar on Hood St, and has photos or video of the event. "Police would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen the pictured vehicles in the Hamilton CBD area between 10pm on 19 July and 12.30am on 20 July," Detective Senior Sergeant Kristine Clarke said. They are a 2024 blue Mitsubishi Outlander, a 2005 grey Nissan Teana and a 2004 gold Toyota Prius, Clarke said. "It is believed the vehicles travelled to the Cloud 9 Bar event and the occupants may have information that could greatly help our investigation." Last week, Te Pairi's family shared a statement through police asking for privacy to grieve. The statement said Te Pairi had been laid to rest in his tūrangawaewae, Tolaga Bay. "Though his body rests, our grief does not. The ache of his absence is something words cannot carry. "Tyreece was deeply loved, and the pain of losing him is just as deep. His future held so much promise - he was taken from us far too soon." His death had left a profound on his partner, whānau and all those who knew him, the statement said. An 18-year-old man was before the courts in relation to Te Pairi's death. The public are asked to use police's 105 service, quoting file number 250720/2896, if they can provide any help.
