What a game it was, man. Sure, it wasn't a mainline Pokémon game. But the sense of wonder that it left you with was just as fantastic. Legends: Arceus was arguably the most unique Pokémon game we'd ever seen before. The plot line was a bit cliché — you were a mysterious visitor who was pulled back into the past who had no recollection of how you got there. But the story had a lot of heart to it and it brought some gameplay mechanics to the table that few other Pokémon games had been able to pull off before.

With that being three years ago, I can't help but be excited about what's coming with Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Pokémon released a new trailer showing off its new game and it looks like an absolute banger.
This looks like so much fun. There were so many details here that make this game look like a special one. Let's dive into a few of them here.
Like Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Z-A won't be introducing us to a new region. Instead, it'll be showing us a different perspective on a region — or, rather — a city in the game that we've been to before. The game will be set in Lumiose City — one of the more popular stops in the Kalos region from the Pokémon X and Y mainline games.
This new Legends game expands the city in a way we haven't seen before. The idea is that you're a new visitor stopping by the city as it undergoes an urban renewal plan that makes it a suitable place to live for both people and Pokémon.

It's massive. The city's design is based on Paris, France, which is pretty cool.
There are three starter pokémon you'll get to choose from to start the game: Totodile, Chikorita and Tepig.
Is that a weird combination? Absolutely. You're pairing two Gen 2 pokémon in Totodile and Chikorita with a Gen 5 pokémon in Tepig. It's strange.
Do I care? No. They're adorable together.

And when you want to catch a Pokémon, you can still weaken it with an attack from your partner.
This is pretty much what battling looked like on the Pokémon show. It's pretty neat to see that finally included in a game after all these years.
Will it work? I'm skeptical. But I'm keeping an open mind with it.
You're probably asking, "Wait, if the game is based in a city then where do I catch wild pokémon?" Don't worry! There's an answer for that.
The city is being revamped to make it habitable for pokémon, so there are "wild zones" included in the game where pokémon can roam free.

Folks. This is not a drill. We're seeing mega evolutions make a comeback in this game.
For those of you who don't know, pokémon mega evolutions were first introduced in Pokémon through the X and Y games. It's simply a new, temporary form a pokémon takes for a temporary power boost during battle. Think of it as a quick power-up.
We hadn't seen these in-game since 2020. It seems they're officially back now.

While all of this news is pretty exciting, it looks like we'll be waiting for this game to come out for a while. It isn't slated to release until "late 2025," according to the game's trailer. That could mean a holiday release date. With this being one of Pokémon's most anticipated games in a while, that'd make plenty of sense.

The best Zelda dungeons, ranked
There are a lot of metrics I could use to rank the best Zelda games. I could talk about the best Zelda bosses, the worlds, items, and more, but I believe the dungeons are the biggest individual factor in deciding how each game stacks up to the others. These are the meat of every Zelda game. All the combat and puzzle solving happens here, and the excitement of exploring each one is what pushes us to want to explore these worlds. The boss is the icing on the cake, but a good dungeon can be the highlight of the entire game. Looking back at all Zelda games, I have made some tough calls to bring you a list of the best Zelda dungeons, ranked. #10 Eagle's Tower – Link's Awakening 2D Zelda games have a tough time competing with their 3D siblings in terms of dungeons. That extra dimension simply allows for far more creative spaces and layouts, but Eagle's Tower manages to feel like a true dungeon rather than just a bunch of rooms. The gimmick of carrying a ball to break down the pillars is easy to grasp but also tricky since you have to be careful not to drop it down a pit. #9 Snowpeak Ruins – Twilight Princess I love it when a dungeon is in an unexpected place. Instead of the usual cave or castle, Snowpeak Ruins takes place in a mansion. Navigating this space is already different from the norm, but made even trickier thanks to the ice. Exploring the old house, using the cannons, and eventually getting the awesome feeling Ball and Chain weapon have frozen this temple into my mind. It is also very refreshing to be given new tasks instead of finding keys to fight the boss over and over. #8 Earth Temple – Wind Waker I don't think it is terribly controversial to say that Wind Waker doesn't have that great of dungeons as a whole. The one standout, however, is the Earth Temple. This comes later in the game and sees Link and Medii navigate it together. By using both characters together — which is a risky mechanic to attempt — the puzzles in this temple can be especially satisfying to complete. I'm also a sucker for light puzzles and undead enemies, so there's that, too. #7 Deepwood Shrine – Minish Cap The only other 2D dungeon that stood out was Deepwood Shrine. This is the first dungeon in Minish Cap and does an excellent job at showing off how cool this game's main mechanic will be. It turns normally inconsequential challenges into tests of skill and logic once you're shrunk down and viewing the world from that smaller perspective. It even makes one of the most tame enemies a proper and terrifying boss. #6 Hyrule Castle – Breath of the Wild After hundreds of hours of exploring, finally reaching Hyrule Castle in Breath of the Wild has a lot of expectations to live up to. While it mostly does meet them, I do think it can't rank much higher than this based on the nature of the game itself. It is fantastic to have a final dungeon that is just a sprawling castle to engage however the player wants, but it also means there isn't the same quality of design in puzzles or encounters if people can miss or avoid the entire thing. I enjoyed it once, but don't think I want to see this style of dungeon again. #5 Shadow Temple – Ocarina of Time Remember that time Ocarina of Time turned into a full-on horror game? If you were a kid playing it like I was, it was burned into your brain. The Shadow Temple is great not just for its vibes, but also for the way the mechanics amplify that feeling of dread. Needing to use the Lens of Truth to see the path at the cost of magic and using Hover Boots to cross gaps while sliding around makes even the mechanics of the dungeon stressful. And what else needs to be said about the boss? This is a dungeon you will love just as much as you fear. #4 Sandship – Skyward Sword The one standout dungeon from Skyward Sword, which is kind of middling overall, is the Sandship. Like any great dungeon, it melds a new mechanic to puzzle-solving. In this case, that's time travel — sort of. You will explore an old pirate ship while shifting time in specific spots to solve some very devious puzzles. I'm a sucker for time-based puzzles, and the way the Sandship uses it is unique and a complete blast to experience for the first time. #3 Arbiter's Grounds – Twilight Princess Who doesn't love the Spinner from Twilight Princess? The worst part about it is that it has almost no use outside of this dungeon, but boy, does it get its time to shine here. This giant colosseum was previously a jail and is filled with the ghosts and undead corpses of past prisoners. The aesthetic is cool, but grinding on this spinning top around the edges, leaping across rails, and spinning circles around the boss is a bigger spectacle than the final boss. #2 Snowhead Temple – Majora's Mask There are only four main temples in Majora's Mask, but it makes every single one of them count. For my money, Snowhead is the best. I think the Goron transformation is the best of the bunch, so it has an advantage there, being focused on that mask, but the spiral design of the entire thing always ensures the player knows where they're going. The boss is also my favorite of the game and is the perfect punctuation mark on this dungeon. #1 Forest Temple – Ocarina of Time You might be wondering why the boring old Forest Temple made it to the number 1 slot. No, it isn't nostalgia talking, but the fact that this seemingly simple temple encompasses all the things you want from a Zelda dungeon. It has a creepy, isolated vibe, fun puzzles that aren't too tough, four distinct challenges with each of the Poes, and a fantastic boss to cap it all off with. No notes.

Kim Min-Ha Compels In Chilling Thriller ‘A Girl With Closed Eyes'
Kim Min-ha plays a character who confesses to a crime in 'A Girl With Closed Eyes.' It's rare that a mystery moves viewers to tears. Yet that's the beauty of A Girl With Closed Eyes. The film debuting at the 2025 New York Asian Film Festival invites viewers to solve a murder mystery while experiencing a succession of illuminating and emotional shifts in perspective. The film opens with an admired author reading from his bestselling true crime novel. His writing is eloquent. Poetic and stark. He reads a scene from his book A Girl With Closed Eyes, which is set during a brutally cold winter. His novel is based on a real-life case, involving a victim named In-seon. She was kidnapped and eventually managed to escape, but would not speak about what happened to her. Audiences devour his novel and they want more of the same. More horrifying true crime narratives. They won't get them. That night the novelist is murdered. The only person that the murder suspect, (Kim Min-ha) will talk to is a police officer played by ... More Choi Hee-seo. So, who killed him? It seems clear at first. The oddly detached Kim Min-ju (Kim Min-ha) is caught at the scene of the crime. Everything points to her as the killer—she was standing there with the shotgun in her hand—but that's just the way she wants it. As to explaining her motive, she insists that she will only talk to one police officer, Park Min-ju (Choi Hee-seo), a woman known for being a whistleblower. Is Kim Min-ju related to the real crime the novelist wrote about and the girl who was his victim? And if that's true, how does police officer Park Min-ju fit into the puzzle. Kim Min-ju insinuates that the writer, Jeong Seong-Woo (Lee Ki-woo), is the actual kidnapper featured in his novel. Yet she does not offer any new evidence. A lack of evidence is why the case was closed 20 years ago. A Girl With Closed Eyes is not just a well-crafted puzzle expertly fitting together the best and darkest examples of human nature, it's also an examination of how victims of well-documented crimes continue to be victimized by the media and the people who read their stories. In-seon's victimization does not end when she escaped. Her neighbors and classmates victimize her by accusing her of lying when she refuses to identify her kidnapper. Her neighbors' animosity forces her family to move to Seoul. Even if In-seon wanted to forget her horrifying experience, the memories are revived with the publication of the novel A Girl With Closed Eyes. Choi Hee-seo searches for clues in the crime of a murdered writer. 'Salvation only comes when all is over,' the murdered novelist was fond of saying and Kim Min-ju wants some closure even if it won't absolve her. All the actors in this drama so convincingly and ferociously play their parts, it's easy to identify with their internal chaos. Kim Min-ha beautifully conveys Min-ju in her moments of hopelessness and through her random acts of courage. Kim, who appeared in the first two seasons of Pachinko, the rom com Way Back Love and the ghost story Light Min-ju with a heartbreaking sense of gravity. Choi, who appeared in Now We Are Breaking Up and Big Forest, plays her character with self-protective restraint, but she nevertheless delivers an emotional punch at the film's conclusion. Lee Ki-woo (My Liberation Notes, Rain or Shine and Flower Boys Ramen Shop) plays the polished popular author who benefits from true crime. From its tranquil opening to its dizzyingly intense conclusion, A Girl With Closed Eyes is a memorable debut by director Chun Sun-young. Think you know who did it? Think again. A Girl With Closed Eyes opens at the New York Asian Film Festival on July 17. The 24th edition of NYAFF runs from July 11 to July 27 across four NYC venues—Film at Lincoln Center, SVA Theatre, LOOK Cinemas W57, and the Korean Cultural Center NY. This year's theme is 'Cinema as Disruption,' spotlighting films that challenge, provoke, and reimagine. A Girl with Closed Eyes fits neatly into this theme as it prompts viewers to reimagine a crime and the role media plays in haunting victims.
