Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to inaugurate annual conference of CPA India Region Zone-II at Dharamshala
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the Annual Conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-II at Tapovan in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamshala on Monday, 30 June, 2025, a release said on Saturday.
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh; Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha; Kuldeep Singh Pathania; Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly; Jai Ram Thakur, Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly; Harshwardhan Chauhan, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Himachal Pradesh and other dignitaries will grace the Inaugural Session.
The theme of the Conference is: 'Good Governance in the Digital Era: Managing Resources, Defending Democracy, and Embracing Innovation'
During the two days Conference featuring a series of plenary sessions and discussions on significant legislative and constitutional topics, the dignitaries will deliberate on the following topics: Role of Legislatures in Managing the State Resources vis-a-vis Development of the State, Provisions as to Disqualification on Grounds of Defection under 10th Schedule of the Article 102 (2) & 191(2) and Usage of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in Legislatures.
The valedictory session on July 1 will be graced by Shiv Pratap Shukla, Governor of Himachal Pradesh, who will address the gathering and deliver the concluding remarks.
A spiritual highlight of the event will be a special interaction with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, bringing a moment of peace and reflection to the proceedings.
The Conference aims to serve as a vital platform for strengthening democratic institutions, sharing best practices, and exploring innovative approaches to governance and legislative functioning in the contemporary era. (ANI)

HP cabinet approves emergency centre in panchayats, interest subsidy for solar projects
Himachal Pradesh government to set up Emergency Response Centre in all panchayats in the state. This decision was taken during the state cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday. (HT Photo) The Cabinet gave its consent for Panchayat Emergency Response Centre in each of the 3,645 panchayats of the state to ensure effective response in the event of natural disasters to save the human lives and properties. The decision comes after the state witnessed flashfloods and cloudburst on Wednesday with the onset of monsoon in the state. Apart from this the Cabinet in order to encourage self-employment and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, approved the provision of interest subsidies for the establishment of solar power projects. Under this initiative, a 5% interest subsidy will be provided for solar projects ranging from 100 KW to 1 MW in tribal areas, while a 4% subsidy will be extended for projects with capacities between 250 KW and 2 MW in non-tribal regions. The Cabinet also approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HIMURJA and selected Gram Panchayats for the installation of 500 KW solar power plants in 100 panchayats under the Green Panchayat Scheme. Each project is expected to generate revenue of approximately ₹ 25 lakh per month. 30% of the earnings will go to HIMURJA, 20% to the state government, and 40% to the respective gram panchayats. An additional 10% share will be allocated to gram panchayats specifically for the welfare of orphans and widows. Cabinet also approved the reclassification of pay matrix Level-11 posts from Group-B to Group-C. With this decision, only bonafide Himachali candidates will be eligible to apply for these reclassified Group-C posts. Earlier, these Level-11 posts were categorised under Group-B, and the recruitment was conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, which allowed applicants from across the country. Post-reclassification, the recruitment process will be handled by the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog, in accordance with the procedures applicable to Group-C positions. Other decisions Honorarium of multi task workers of the Public Works Department from ₹ 5,000 to ₹ 5,500 per month approved, benefitting around 5,000 workers. Milk Incentive Scheme to be introduced for farmers supplying milk to eligible non-government dairy cooperative societies, under which a subsidy of ₹ 3 per litre will be provided to milk producers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Shifting of the office of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation from Shimla to Dharamsala approved. This move aligns with the declaration of Kangra as the Tourism Capital of the state and aims to help decongest Shimla city. To create and fill up 101 posts of various categories in the Police Lines of District Police Dehra.

"Trying to shield the accused": BJP demands resignation of Mamata Banerjee over Kolkata gangrape case
New Delhi, [India], June 29 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched an all-out attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal over the alleged gangrape incident, with the party demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee. A female student was allegedly gang-raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata's Kasba on Wednesday, June 25. Kolkata police has formed a five-member Special team to investigate the alleged gangrape of a law student in Kolkata. BJP leader Gourav Vallabh told ANI, 'What is the relationship between the gang rape accused and the TMC? Why do accused often emerge as members of the TMC party? In this case, the accused is also found to be a member of TMC. All of this is happening when the West Bengal Chief Minister is a woman... I believe Bengal has now become synonymous with anarchy, corruption, and nepotism. I strongly demand that a government that fails to protect its women must be dismissed. It is disgraceful to see MPs standing with the accused, claiming it was a matter of friendship or asking 'what should we do.' Such behaviour from TMC leaders, who are trying to shield the accused, is shameful... Mamata Banerjee should resign immediately...' The incident that comes 10 months after the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case has triggered a major political row in West and the BJP earlier in the day held separate protests over the incident. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers also held a 'Mashal March' demanding justice for the rape survivor.A female student was allegedly gang-raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata's Kasba on Wednesday, June 25. The police have arrested three persons, including the main accused, and a five-member Special team has been formed to investigate the incident. Kolkata Police Chief Prosecutor Sourin Ghosal told ANI, 'We are investigating his (Guard of the Law College, Pinaki Banerjee) role in the alleged court has granted his police custody till July 1...' The main accused, Manojit Mishra, and his accomplices, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, have been remanded to police custody till July 1. The BJP has set up a four-member fact-finding committee to investigate the case. BJP MP Sambit Patra made the announcement while addressing a press conference in the National Capital on Saturday. 'BJP President JP Nadda has formed a committee, and that committee will visit the spot and investigate. Its members are former Union Ministers Satpal Singh, Meenakshi Lekhi and MPs Biplab Deb and Manan Mishra. This committee will soon visit the spot and submit its report to the National President,' he said. Patra demanded that Mamata Banerjee apologise and resign as the Chief Minister. 'We are not asking for clarification from Mamata Banerjee. We are asking her to apologise and resign,' Patra said. Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar was detained on Saturday while protesting against the gangrape incident at South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata. The protest was organised by the party at Gariahat Crossing in Kolkata. Waiving the BJP flags, they attempted to climb over the barricades guarded by police personnel. (ANI)
