Arsenal confirm first transfer of summer window as early deal finalised for defender to leave
Arsenal have confirmed Nuno Tavares has completed a permanent transfer to Lazio.
Tavares spent last season on loan at Lazio and Arsenal will bank between £6-7million after the Serie A club actived an option to buy the 25-year-old left-sided defender. He has signed a three-year contract at Lazio which runs until June 2028.

Reports in Italy have claimed that Lazio may look to instantly sell Tavares in the hope they can make a quick profit on him.
Should that happen, Arsenal would benefit as it is understood that the deal they agreed last summer includes a sell-on clause which is believed to be worth up to 25 per cent.

Tavares joined Arsenal from Benfica in 2021 but struggled to adapt to the Premier League and never established himself under Mikel Arteta.
After struggling in his first season at Aesenal, Tavares spent time on loan at Marseille, Nottingham Forest and Lazio.
He made 39 appearances for Marseille during the 2022-23 season, made 12 appearances for Nottingham Forest in 2023-24 and then impressed at Lazio last season.

In total, he made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners.
Arsenal said in a statement: 'Nuno Tavares has moved to Serie A side Lazio on a permanent transfer.
'Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Nuno for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.
'The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.'

Benjamin Sesko makes crucial transfer decision to impact Liverpool's Alexander Isak chase
RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko has snubbed Manchester United and is keen to join Newcastle United. That's according to DELO, who claims Sesko has analyzed both Premier League proposals and favors a move to Newcastle this summer. The news comes just hours after Liverpool saw a $146 million offer for Alexander Isak rejected by Newcastle. Newcastle has clarified that Isak is not for sale, but would only consider allowing a deal if its $197 million valuation was met. After losing out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, Newcastle has also stated that a replacement for Isak would need to be finalized before allowing him to leave. READ MORE: Luis Diaz dealt early Bayern Munich setback after Tottenham transfer agreement READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Alexander Isak bid, Adidas kit launch, Rodrygo talks Sesko, 22, is seen as one of the brightest young talents in world soccer and has been heavily monitored by Europe's top clubs. Newcastle and United are considered the frontrunners to sign him this summer, but Sesko prefers a move to the League Cup champions. The Slovenian forward joined Leipzig from Salzburg in 2022 for a fee of $28 million. Leipzig is understood to require a fee of $87 million to sanction a transfer this summer, with add-ons and a sell-on clause also integral to a potential sale. Earlier this window, Newcastle attempted to sign Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and planned to play him alongside Isak. However, Liverpool hijacked the move and then tried to prize Isak away from Newcastle. After weeks of speculation, Liverpool submitted an official bid for Isak worth $146 million on Friday. Newcastle instantly rejected the offer, and Liverpool opted to withdraw its interest. A second bid was thought to be pointless due to Newcastle's firm stance, which hasn't changed since Liverpool's interest was first reported. However, Newcastle's stance could change if a replacement striker is signed, and Sesko is keen on the move. It's been a very active summer for Liverpool, which has signed Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Armin Pecsi. Approximately $325 million has been spent by Liverpool this summer, meaning that departures have also been crucial to balance the books. Nat Phillips, Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, and Luis Diaz all left the club this summer, and Liverpool received a collective $141 million. Liverpool also secured $12 million from Real Madrid for the early release of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Another high-profile player must be sold to come close to Newcastle's demands and fund a potential Isak transfer. Darwin Nunez has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, and negotiations with Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal are ongoing. Liverpool is looking to secure a fee in the region of $75 million for Nunez, $10 million less than they paid Benfica for his services in 2022. Nunez was previously in talks with Napoli, but the Serie A champions withdrew interest. Tyler Morton, Harvey Elliott, and Andrew Robertson have also been linked with moves away from Liverpool this summer. At this stage, a second bid for Isak is off the table, but if Sesko joins Newcastle, the transfer saga may be revived.

Newcastle United have Joined the Race to Sign 23-year-old Striker
Nick Woltemade Pursued by Premier League Giants but Bundesliga Loyalty Holds Firm Caught Offside have delivered another insightful transfer update, confirming that both Manchester United and Newcastle United have expressed firm interest in signing VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade. However, as reported by Christian Falk in his CF Bayern Insider column, there appears to be one major stumbling block: the player's preference to remain in Germany. Rising Star with Impressive Numbers Woltemade, just 23 years of age, has caught the eye with his performances in the Bundesliga. The tall, technical forward delivered 12 league goals and 21 goal contributions in total across all competitions for both club and country last season. It is no surprise that such output has placed him on the radar of some of Europe's elite clubs. According to Falk: 'Manchester United and Newcastle had Nick Woltemade on their shortlists. However, the VfB Stuttgart striker is still focused on Bayern Munich. He doesn't want to leave the Bundesliga at this stage.' Photo: IMAGO Bayern Munich Playing Transfer Hardball Despite early offers being made by Bayern Munich — one of €40 million plus €5 million and another worth €50 million plus €5 million — Stuttgart have so far rejected both bids. The German champions are now opting to wait, confident that Stuttgart may return to the table as the window progresses. As Falk explains, 'Now they've decided to play on time, as they don't want to raise their offer again. They hope Stuttgart will come back to the table, as it's a lot of money for the club as it stands, and they can't guarantee that another club will be prepared to pay this fee next year.' This strategy from Bayern, while risky, is a familiar one. They're hoping financial realism will trump Stuttgart's resistance. But until the deal is sealed, the likes of United and Newcastle may still harbour hope, even if distant. Premier League Appeal Not Enough for Now Both Premier League clubs are in clear need of attacking reinforcements. Manchester United have struggled to find consistent form up front, while Newcastle's ambitions to crack the Champions League spots hinge on bolstering their offensive firepower. Woltemade, with his blend of youth and end product, fits both profiles perfectly. Yet as Falk confirms, the forward is simply not keen on leaving his homeland — not yet. One to Watch in Future Windows While a move to England looks unlikely this summer, it would be premature to rule it out altogether. Players' preferences shift, and the Premier League remains one of the most attractive leagues in the world. Newcastle and Manchester United would be wise to keep close tabs on Woltemade's development. If Bayern falter or Stuttgart dig their heels in beyond the current window, opportunities may yet arise. For now though, Bundesliga remains his chosen battleground. Our View – EPL Index Analysis From a Newcastle United fan's perspective, there's no shame in missing out on a player who clearly isn't ready to leave his comfort zone just yet. Nick Woltemade's numbers speak for themselves — 12 goals and 9 assists at just 23 is the kind of profile we've been crying out for. He could've been the perfect foil for Isak or even played alongside him in a dynamic two-pronged attack. The club's ambitions to push for top-four again, especially with the added pressure of European football, mean we need rotation-ready talent who won't take half a season to adapt. Woltemade, with Bundesliga pedigree and international recognition, looked an ideal fit on paper. But if the lad's heart is set on Bayern, then there's little point in chasing shadows. That said, it's encouraging to see the club linked with players of this calibre. A few seasons ago, Newcastle would not have been in conversations with talents also being eyed by Bayern Munich and Manchester United. What's more, should the Bayern deal fall through and he sees another year in Stuttgart, perhaps a strong European campaign by the Magpies could tilt his head come 2026. Either way, the scouting department deserve credit — it's the right profile, the right timing, but unfortunately not the right moment. Not yet.
