15 police officers to receive T.N Chief Minister's Police Medal for outstanding work in eradicating drugs
According to an official press release, in view of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has ordered the medals to Ashish Rawat, Superintendent of Police, Sivagangai District for his contribution towards drug eradication during his tenure at Thanjavur District; A. Marimuthu, Inspector, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Melur, Madurai District; M. Vasanthakumar, Inspector, Perumanallur Police Station, Tiruppur District; N. Raja Singh, Inspector, Intelligence Section, Greater Chennai Police; S. Radha Krishnan, Inspector, Ashok Nagar L&O Police Station, Greater Chennai Police.
The others are M. C. Ramesh, Inspector, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Ambattur, Avadi Commissionerate; K. Babu Suresh Kumar, Inspector, NIB CID, Salem; T. Anbarasi, Inspector, Central Intelligence Unit, Chennai Zone; S. Ramesh, Special Sub-Inspector, Crime Headquarters, Chennai; N. Dhanabalan, Sub-Inspector, Podanur L&O Police Station, Coimbatore City; M. Eranian, Sub-Inspector, Valivalam Police Station, Nagapattinam District; K. Kathiresan, Sub-Inspector, Kumuli Police Station, Theni District; C. Gurusamy, Special Sub-Inspector, Central Railway Police Station, Chennai; M. Suseendran, Special Sub-Inspector, NIB CID, Dindigul; and C. Murugan, Inspector, Serious Crime Squad, Madurai City.
They were selected based on recommendations of the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force. The medals will be presented by the Chief Minister during Independence Day celebrations.

Sub-Inspector Jitendra Dogra, who leads the Delhi Police Dog Squad, said that their dogs are now being trained to stay quiet when they find explosives. This is because some explosives can go off if there's a loud noise, like barking. "Now, we teach our dogs to stay calm and show signs like wagging their tail or looking at their handler when they detect something suspicious," he explained. The Delhi Police Dog Squad has 64 dogs, 58 trained to find explosives, 3 to detect drugs, and 3 to track down criminals. These dogs are posted at important places like the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk to help keep everyone safe during the Independence Day celebrations. The 64 dogs belong to four different breeds: 22 Labradors, 17 Belgian Malinois, 16 German Shepherds and 9 Golden Retrievers. Around 40 per cent of the squad's dogs are female and the remaining 60 per cent are male. The Delhi Police is also expanding its dog squad. A plan is underway to add 30 more dogs. In 2024, 13 dogs were already inducted. While some dogs come from the Army, many are purchased through private tenders. Last year, each dog cost around Rs 5 lakh. The dog squad functions 24/7. Handlers and dogs are always on call to respond to alerts, check unattended bags, and sweep key locations. The dogs are also deployed at large public events throughout the year, such as Ram Lila, Janmashtami, and Eid. There are 121 personnel in the squad, including 1 sub-inspector, 28 assistant sub-inspectors, 53 head constables, and 39 constables--all trained as dog handlers. The main headquarters of the squad is in Model Town, with nine district units spread across East, Southwest, Dwarka, Northwest, Central, North, New Delhi and NortheastDelhi. Each unit has kennels equipped with air coolers and washrooms to ensure the comfort and well-being of the dogs. Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar, a dog handler with Delhi Police, said, "The dog has to be raised like a child; the behaviour of any dog depends on its mood, but we come to know if our dog has any problem or not. In the morning when we take it out of its kennel, it starts playing, which means it is happy; otherwise, we understand that its health is not good, after which we do its checkup. If needed, we take it to the hospital as well. Every day we train and practice with our dogs, clean them, and feed them, and if we get a call, we take them to the spot."

India-Maldives relations have come a long way with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's State visit to the Indian Ocean island nation which concluded today. Prime Minister Modi who arrived in the Maldivian capital Male yesterday on a two-day State visit, was the Guest of Honour at Maldives 60th Independence Day marking a ''milestone'' in bilateral ties between the two countries, an official spokesman said. This year also marks 60 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This is the first time that an Indian Prime Minister attended the Independence Day celebrations in Maldives. Prime Minister Modi is also the first foreign leader at the level of Head of State or Government to be hosted by President Muizzu. Ironically, President Muizzu had won the elections mainly on ''India Out'' campaign. His three Ministers had criticised Prime Minister Modi which resulted in a tailspin in relations between the two countries. The two leaders held discussions in a restricted format yesterday which were followed by delegation-level talks. The two countries signed three Agreements and four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) after the delegation-level talks including on initiating discussions on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries. India also extended a Rs 4850 crore Line of Credit to the Maldives which would be utilised to develop priority sectors including Defence, health and housing. Both leaders inaugurated the Maldives Defence Ministry building in male and released a postage stamp commemorating 60 years of establishment of di0plomattic relations between the two countries. President Muizzu who hosted a State Banquet in honour of Prime Minister Modi yesterday, described him as a ''wonderful person.'' ''He is a wonderful person who is very fond of building relationships between India's neighbours. The Maldives and India have a very good relationship that goes back centuries, and with PM Modi's leadership, cooperation between the two governments is going to be even more prosperous in the days ahead." Asked whether he would visit India this year, President Muizzu said "I hope so. I don't know whether this year or not, but maybe in the near future." On India's role in Maldives development he said "We all have seen how India has helped the Maldives in the past, and nobody will doubt how India will be a very crucial partner going forward." In a 'U' turn from his earlier stand of cozying up with China, President Muizzu said it is not his Government's policy to allow any foreign country take the lead in his affairs and every square inch of Maldives territory will be safeguarded by Maldivians. He was addressing the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) on his country's 60th Independence Day. This is the first time in Maldives history that a Maldivian Head of State has addressed both forces at a joint ceremonial gathering. Referring to the vast maritime domain of the Maldives, he said that despite the country's relatively small population, it is Maldivians themselves who will bear the responsibility of defending and securing the nation's territory.
