No point in MVA parties allying if we're to repeat state poll mess-up: Uddhav
Shiv Sena
(UBT) chief
Uddhav Thackeray
on Saturday said mistakes were made by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) while allocating seats for the assembly elections. He said that instead of calling this lack of coordination, they had to accept that the success achieved during Lok Sabha elections "went to the heads of some people.
" He appeared worried about MVA's future, saying if they want to repeat the same mistake, there was no point in coming together.
Congress politician Vijay Wadettiwar agreed with Uddhav and said arrogance and internal disarray within the opposition cost its dear.
Thackeray said that the struggle over seat-sharing had continued in the MVA ahead of the state polls until the last day, and its effect was that a bad message was sent to people.

"We were united during the Lok Sabha elections, but in the assembly elections, our selfishness came to the fore and we were defeated," Thackeray said in an interview with Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut in the party mouthpiece Saamna. Thackeray also criticised the Election Commission (EC), calling it a "dhondya" stone that is revered by people.
Thackeray said he didn't blame anyone for the assembly election defeat. "Basically, Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP were staunch opponents of each other until the MVA was formed.

The important thing is that during the election period, there was a fight over slogans. You give Rs 2,100, we give Rs 2,500, we give Rs 3,000. If you do this, we will do this. In that, we could not tell the people about the good works we did when we were in govt," Thackeray said.
Uddhav stated the Thackeray brand was about struggle for the people, starting from his grandfather Prabodhankar Thackeray, father Balasaheb Thackeray, himself, and son Aaditya Thackeray.
Now, Raj Thackeray has come together, he said, indicating the alliance with Raj was on the cards.
Uddhav said people had wondered ahead of the assembly polls that if there is so much struggle going on between them (MVA partners) now, what would happen later. He added that during the Lok Sabha polls, MVA allies left seats for each other with the common objective of winning elections, but this didn't happen in the assembly polls.
Thackeray demanded that polls be held on ballot paper. "Why were EVMs introduced? To save time for counting votes. If voting was held in Maharashtra on May 1 and in Bihar on May 30, then the time in between has passed, right? If it takes four days more for counting of votes, what will happen? In America and Europe, voting is done on ballot papers. Are those countries more backward than us? PM Modi himself has also spoken against EVMs.
BJP members should listen to it once," Thackeray said.
Thackeray also opposed the Maharashtra Special Public Security Act, saying there was no clarity in the bill. "Will this bill stop atrocities on women or stop the looting of people? It starts with what is the hardline left wing. What is leftist ideology? There is no problem in ending Naxalism and terrorism, but there is no clarity in this public security bill," he said.
"Remember one thing, no matter how much theft is done, the EC can give the Shiv Sena's election symbol to someone else or freeze it. EC does not have that right. Because the name Shiv Sena was given by my grandfather and my father. If tomorrow I change the name of the EC, do I have the right? But after changing my name, I will call him Dhondya. That Dhondya does not have the right to change the name of the party. If we have behaved in a democratic way, you can remove the symbol, but according to the Constitution, if we have not done anything wrong, they cannot remove our symbol.
But those who are throwing vermilion on that Dhondya are sitting in Delhi, it is working," Thackeray said.

JD(U) MP who flayed EC's ‘Tughlaqi farmaan', got notice, won his seat hailing Modi leadership
A DAY after he criticised the Election Commission's ongoing Special Intensive Revision drive on electoral rolls, MP Giridhari Yadav received a show cause notice from his party JD(U). A low-key leader, despite his four terms as Banka MP, 64-year-old Yadav is not really used to controversy. The last time he was in the news was two years ago, when he wrote to the Lok Sabha Secretary General seeking that he be allowed to submit written questions on paper, rather than online. He was not computer savvy, leaving him dependent on his staff or family members to ask questions on his behalf, which posed the risk of breach of secrecy, Yadav said. On Wednesday, Yadav criticised the EC's electoral roll revision drive, just ahead of Assembly elections in Bihar, as a 'Tughlaqi farmaan (unrealistic order)', and said the poll panel seemed to be unaware of the ground realities. Speaking to The Indian Express, he said it had taken him 10 days to get his own documents together for the exercise. 'Any government or constitutional authority is there to make life easier for people, not to complicate it further. It has been a year since the Lok Sabha polls. What was the EC doing till now?' Yadav said. While the ruling JD(U) and its allies have supported the EC drive officially, behind the scenes there is a growing concern about the impact on voters, given the short timeline within which the exercise is being carried out. On Thursday, JD(U) national general secretary Aafaque Ahmad Khan sent a show-cause notice to Yadav, demanding a reply within 15 days and warning him of disciplinary action otherwise. The notice said: 'You are aware that certain opposition parties, frustrated by their electoral outcomes, have been running a sustained campaign to discredit the Hon'ble ECI, particularly on the issue of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), with the sole objective of creating public doubt over the functioning of a constitutional body. Our party, the Janata Dal (United), has consistently supported the Hon'ble ECI and the use of EVMs, both during our time in the I.N.D.I.A. alliance and now as part of the NDA alliance… In this context, your public comments on such a sensitive matter, especially in an election year, not only cause embarrassment to the party but also inadvertently lend credibility to the baseless and politically motivated allegations made by the Opposition.' A senior JD(U) leader said the notice to Yadav sent the right message: 'It speaks volumes about our support to the SIR. Every party leader has to be disciplined.' Asked about their ally MP's remarks, BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma said Yadav may not be suitably informed. 'Since Giridhari Yadav has been busy attending the ongoing Parliament Session, he is not conversant with what has been happening on the ground on the SIR front.' RJD national spokesperson Subodh Kumar Mehta welcomed Yadav's remarks. 'At least Giridhari Yadav had the courage to speak the truth. We have serious doubts about the EC data regarding people who have 'permanently shifted' or are 'dead'.' On the show-cause notice to Yadav, Mehta said it showed 'the NDA's character'. As per the data shared by the EC for the state on Thursday, '99%' of the total 7.89 crore registered electors of Bihar had been 'covered' in the SIR, with less than 7 lakh forms yet to be received ahead of Friday's deadline to submit forms. The EC has not shared district-wise data. The EC said 21.6 lakh electors across the state were reported to be deceased, 31.5 lakh to have permanently migrated, and 7 lakh registered at more than one place. Giridhari Yadav started his electoral innings in 1995, winning the Katoria Assembly seat in Banka as a Janata Dal nominee. In 1996, he jumped into the Lok Sabha poll fray, and won from the Banka seat. After Lalu Prasad formed the RJD in 1997, Yadav contested from the Katoria Assembly seat again, and won on its ticket in 2000. In the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, he switched back to the Lok Sabha and won from Banka on the RJD ticket. By 2010, Yadav switched sides to the JD(U), though that didn't affect his poll chances. He won from the Belhar Assembly seat in Banka this time, and retained it in the 2015 state elections. Come 2019, it was back to the Lok Sabha for Yadav, and he won Banka that year, as well as in 2024. Despite his string of poll wins, Yadav, who declared assets worth Rs 1.72 crore in his 2024 poll affidavit, is not seen as a very popular grassroots leader. However, the social arithmetic of the area works for him. Banka has a mixed population of OBCs, EBCs and Dalits, along with a sizeable chunk of upper castes. A leader from Banka said: 'In the 2019 and 2024 polls, he used the Narendra Modi factor, even though he belongs to the JD(U). He openly sought votes in the name of Modi's leadership.' Big boost for Mumbai local train services: 12 rail projects worth over Rs 16,200 crore sanctioned
Mumbai Suburban Railway: Good news for Mumbaikars! Indian Railways (IR) has undertaken multiple projects worth over Rs 16,200 crore to improve the infrastructure in Mumbai suburban network. Once completed, these rail projects will further enhance the connectivity and seamless operation of train services in the region. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the government has approved 12 infrastructure projects worth Rs 16,241 crore to further enhance suburban railway services in Maharashtra's capital. The response came following a query raised by Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil. Earlier this year, Vaishnaw emphasized that infrastructure development is the cornerstone for increasing suburban services. He stated that Indian Railways is committed to modernise, improve commuter experience, and enhanced regional connectivity, with a special focus on the Mumbai Suburban Railway Network. These new projects also aims to decongest existing lines, improve service frequency, and cater to the ever-growing demand of Mumbai's suburban commuters. Apart from these, the national transporter is also set to introduce 238 new Air-Conditioned suburban rakes. These new AC local trains will be equipped with automatic doors and will prevent passengers from hanging on footboards or boarding moving trains which is a major cause of fatal accidents. 'The introduction of AC local trains equipped with automatic doors in Mumbai has been a welcome initiative to enhance commuters' safety and reduce incidents related to overcrowding. The automatic doors prevent passengers from hanging on footboards or boarding moving trains which is a major cause of fatal accidents. These doors remain closed while the train is in motion and open only at stations when the train is stationary, thereby significantly reducing the risk of falls,' the Railway Minister said.

Sangli suicide: No govt dues, as he was a sub-contractor, says Ajit
MUMBAI: A day after a Sangli-based contractor died by suicide allegedly over pending dues of ₹1.40 crore for work related to the state's Jal Jeevan Mission, the government claimed he was a sub-contractor, and not appointed by the government. The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and contractors' body have however termed the death as 'murder, a consequence of mismanagement of the state's finances'. Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and others arrive at the Vidhan Bhavan for the Monsoon session of the state Assembly, in Mumbai, Friday, July 18, 2025. (PTI Photo) (PTI07_18_2025_000243B) (PTI) Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who also holds the finance portfolio, said, 'The incident is unfortunate, but he was a sub-contractor and the government had no role in paying his fees. There is a process for releasing contractors' bills. We will, however, probe the death.' While minister of water supply and sanitation, Gulabrao Patil, who belongs to the Shiv Sena, concurred with Pawar, officials from the department told HT anonymously that payment of dues amounting to ₹3200 crore for Jal Jeevan Mission was sent to the finance department in June, which responded only a few days ago citing paucity of funds for their inability to release the money. Opposition, assn criticize govt Maharashtra State Contractors' Association expressed displeasure over statements by Pawar and Patil, and shared details with HT about the deceased having completed four schemes for the project in Walwa and two in Shirala tehsils, and was indeed debt ridden. 'It is insensitive to see ministers washing their hands off the incident just because he was a sub-contractor. For the last one year, all contractors and associations have been raising their voice against pending dues. Yet, the government has not held any meeting over the issue related to the state's finances,' said Milind Bhosale, president of the association. Slamming the government, MVA leaders pointed to funds being diverted for populist schemes such as the Ladki Bahin Yojana. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut called it 'murder' and sought the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Mr Prime Minister, look at this innocent face. He took his life yesterday. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, he completed works worth ₹1.40 crore, taking a loan of ₹80 lakh. But the government hasn't paid his dues, forcing him to take this extreme step,' Raut posted on X. Taking a dig at Ladki Bahin spends, NCP (SP) chief spokesperson Jitendra Awhad said, 'The scheme is not viable for the government. Thousands of crores were allocated for it, which have affected other government expenditures. I request the chief minister to look into the matter personally.' 'After farmers, now contractors are dying by suicide,' said Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar. 'This government pays thousands of crores to big contractors but has no sympathy for small players working in each district for government schemes.'
