The announcement of a film based on Operation Sindoor, India's recent military strikes in Pakistan, has sparked a major controversy and backlash, prompting the director to issue an apology.
The film, titled 'Operation Sindoor', was announced on Friday night by director Uttam Maheshwari on social media. The project will be produced by Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films and The Content Engineer.
The makers also shared a poster which featured a woman soldier wearing combat gear and holding a weapon. She is seen applying sindoor, the red vermillion worn by married Hindu women, to her hair parting. The scene is set in a battlefield with explosions, barbed wire, military tanks, and fighter jets. India carried out the targeted strikes on terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir early Wednesday under 'Operation Sindoor', two weeks after the massacre of 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

The announcement of the movie faced backlash, with many social media users criticising its timing. 'Sharam karo yaar, war is on. (Have some shame),' said one user. Another person wrote, ''Sindoor' or 'Operation Sindoor' should not be commercialised by corporations or the film industry (to make a movie in that title!) for profit. Legally, it may be allowed—but morally, it's wrong. Some things deserve respect, not a chance to cash in..'
'Stop embarrassing yourself and your country,' read one post. 'This is so inappropriate and uncalled for,' one user posted. One user criticised the film's team, saying that it should be boycotted. 'They can stoop to such levels of disgrace and disrespect for the nation and our armed forces soldiers' who are at the frontline sacrificing their sweat and blood. At this hour of crisis it Wasn't required at all!!!!' the post added.
Following the criticism, Maheshwari, whose past work as a filmmaker is not known, issued an apology on his Instagram Stories. 'My sincere apologies for recently announcing a film based on Operation Sindoor, inspired by the recent heroic efforts of our Indian Armed Forces. The intent was never to hurt or provoke anyone's sentiments.
'As a filmmaker, I was moved by the courage, sacrifice, and strength of our soldiers and leadership, and simply wished to bring this powerful story to light. This project was born out of deep respect and love for our nation and not for fame and monetisation,' he wrote. Maheshwari said he is aware that the timing of the movie may have caused 'discomfort or pain to some'.

'For that, I deeply regret. This is not just a film, it's an emotion of the entire nation and a social image of the country globally,' he said, while thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Our love and prayers will always be with the families of the martyrs as well as the Bravo warriors who are fighting on the border day and night to give us a new morning.

T-Series 'looks forward to collaborating' with Diljit Dosanjh after Border 2; they share 'strong' relationship: Report

Amidst the controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh's casting in Border 2, which follows the backlash he faced over Sardaar Ji 3, rumours emerged that T-Series had decided to sever ties with the actor for future projects. However, the production banner has quashed these speculations, putting the rumours to rest. Earlier this week, Diljit shut down the rumours of getting replaced in Border 2 by sharing a behind-the-scenes video of himself shooting for the film. T-Series sets record straight After Diljit shared a social media post from the Border 2 set, reports emerged suggesting that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had lifted its ban following a request by producer Bhushan Kumar. Although FWICE permitted the production of Border 2 to move forward, it stressed that its non-cooperation stance with Diljit would persist for upcoming projects. Some reports claimed Bhushan Kumar had assured FWICE that T-Series would part ways with Diljit after Border 2. According to Mumbai Mirror, a source close to the production company has since denied these allegations. 'These reports are completely baseless,' the source told Mumbai Mirror. 'T-Series has always shared a strong and respectful working relationship with Diljit and looks forward to collaborating with him on future projects,' the insider added. More about Diljit and Border 2 Earlier this week, Diljit shut down the rumours of getting replaced in Border 2 by sharing a behind-the-scenes video of himself shooting for the film. According to India Today, FWICE lifted the ban on Diljit for his upcoming film Border 2. The president of the association, BN Tiwari, shared that they took the decision after Bhushan Kumar reached out to them and pleaded personally. It comes after several calls to ban Diljit and his upcoming work after he worked with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. The film opened overseas on June 27. It wasn't released in India. The row comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, followed by India's Operation Sindoor on May 7, in which air strikes were carried out on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Anurag Basu's Dino has collected ₹9.5 crores in India in the first two days of its release. The film, which was released on July 4, features a star-studded cast that includes Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal and Fatima Ali Sheikh. According to Sacnilk, the film collected ₹3.5 crore on its opening day, followed by ₹6 crore on Saturday, bringing the total to ₹9.5 crore. A report by the tracking website added that the film saw 32% occupancy on Saturday, with Pune, NCR and Mumbai regions registering the highest occupancy figures. With positive reviews all over, the film is expected to cross ₹15 crore on Sunday Dino is a hyperlink romantic drama that follows stories of love, longing, infidelity, and morality in urban cities. The other actors in the movie are Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma and Ali Fazal. The Hindu review of the film said, 'In hyperlink films, establishing the character quickly is crucial, making the choice of actors all the more important. Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara make the lust/ lost confusion of today's generation relatable. Both convey the psychological cracks and social awkwardness beneath that veneer of cocky confidence. It is the spark between them that ignites the mainstream engine. 'Then, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Ali Fazal press the gears to decide between career and family. While Ali seems to have been cast to fulfill the unrealised ambition of his character in 3 Idiots, the underrated Fatima excels in a complex role, with her Shruti reminding me of her performance in Modern Love Mumbai.'
