Millonarios have chosen Cataño's replacement in midfield

Millonarios has already started the preseason for the upcoming semester, while the club and the coaching staff keep an eye on the transfer market to strengthen the team. Some important departures have already been confirmed in the ambassador team, such as Radamel Falcao García, Jader Valencia, and Daniel Cataño, so covering these absences is a priority. Advertisement Daniel Cataño has already been presented at Bolívar de La Paz and his departure leaves a significant gap in Millonarios' midfield, but the club is already aiming for his replacement. Millonarios, looking to bring back Juan José Ramírez Juan José Ramírez, who joined Millonarios for the second semester of 2024 after a good campaign at Orsomarso in the Second Division, made 14 appearances in the blue jersey during that season, and then went on loan to Real Cartagena, where he could gain more experience. Now, although the loan is still valid until the end of the year, Millonarios wants to bring the player back to be Cataño's replacement as the team's offensive midfielder. Advertisement Journalist Alexis Rodríguez from Win Sports clarified that the young 23-year-old midfielder will stay at Millonarios, although several reports linked him to Once Caldas, Deportivo Cali, and other clubs. Coach David González is giving a vote of confidence to Ramírez, who returns to Millonarios after a very good spell at Real Cartagena, where he was a key player and made 20 appearances in the semester, mostly as a starter. Marcus Trescothick says England ‘not stupid enough' to dismiss draw

England are 'not stupid enough' to chase victory at all costs on the final day of the Edgbaston Test, with assistant coach Marcus Trescothick hinting they would welcome a rare draw against India. In three years since Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum took over as captain and coach, England have become the masters of all-or-nothing cricket and turned the draw into an endangered species. Advertisement There has been just one in 37 games since the advent of 'Bazball' – a rain-shortened Ashes clash in Manchester – with Stokes going on the record on numerous occasions with his disdain for stalemates. It would be fantastical for England to harbour realistic ideas of turning their overnight score of 72 for three into a winning score of 608 on Sunday – not mention a world record by the small matter of 190 runs. Trescothick was careful not to squash the prospect entirely but broke what has become a minor taboo in the camp by recognising that avoiding defeat could be an acceptable result. Advertisement 'We're always trying to be as positive as we can, but we all appreciate it's a hell of a lot of runs to try and score,' he said. 'We need 536 tomorrow…I don't think we've seen scoring rates like that. I don't think we use that sort of (defensive) language, that's not the sort of changing room we are. But we are not naive. 'If you get to the point where you can draw the game, of course, we're not stupid enough to think that you have to just win or lose. There are three results possible in every game that you play. 'This has kind of been built up away from what the changing room messages are. I think there is a perception of what you think goes on in the changing room, but we obviously understand it a little bit more.' Advertisement The levels of faith among England fans have risen so much that the Hollies Stand stood as one to a chorus of 'stand up if you still believe', even after India began dismantling the top order on the fourth evening. 'We were all stood up in the changing room,' Trescothick said with a smile. 'We have done some things in our time. We are different to how we've done things before, so we'll see what happens.' India surprised many onlookers by setting the target at such an outlandish level, delaying a declaration many felt would come long before Shubman Gill belatedly called time on the innings at 427 for six. Advertisement Bowling coach Morne Morkel admitted the timing had been a matter of debate but feels the English appetite for embracing unlikely chases will still remain. 'We did talk about it a lot during the day, I guess if a team does score 500 plus on the final day they deserve to win,' he said. 'Harry Brook said in the media the other day that they'd go at anything we set for them, so I think we're in for an exciting day. 'Harry is a guy who likes to take the game on and he's an entertainer. That's their style. If they're happy to take it on, that's great for the game.'

American Press Male Scholar Athlete of the Year: Need to know why drives VanMetre

Sulphur High School graduate Paxton VanMetre is the 2025 American Press Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. (Trish Leger / Special to the American Press) A basic understanding of the world around him isn't enough for Paxton VanMetre. His pursuit of knowledge — from academics to sports, band and beyond — requires a deeper understanding. 'That's everything for me,' VanMetre said. 'Knowledge for me is not just knowing where things are or what things are. 'Another big lesson I learned throughout sports is you got to have a why for everything. Why you do something and to have that knowledge of why I would do something or why a thing is, why rules are in place, why sports are a certain way.' With a healthy dose of advanced classes, VanMetre ranked 18th out of 404 with a 4.14 grade point average in his graduating class, scored a 32 on the American College Testing exam, played multiple sports and found time for band and various clubs. He is the American Press Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. The Sulphur High School Student of the Year made sure every minute counted. 'You have to handle business,' VanMetre said. 'You find out that in class, 'All right, I got a few minutes, maybe I can knock out some math problems.' 'Or maybe, I can knock out some biology or whatever. You start finding stuff to do, so that way when you get home after a long day, you don't have to deal with a whole lot. A lot of late nights, but those are definitely worth it.' He played four seasons as a kicking specialist for the Tors football team and defense and midfield for the soccer team. With sports and playing the tenor saxophone in the band, early mornings and long days were the norm for VanMetre. He was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the BETA Club, and the Quiz Bowl team. He is fluent in Spanish and was a TOR Guide, translating for fellow students who were learning English. 'You're tired,' VanMetre said. 'Every day you're tired, but there's an aspect of it where you have to almost force yourself some days, especially those summer workouts. 'Then, after summer workouts, now it's band camp. All right, now it's soccer practice. So, all of that would be one day. You have to be mentally strong to get through football at 6:15 in the morning. Then after football, you would go to school like normal. You're a student-athlete, student first. So you'd go to school, you'd take a test.' As a son of educators, Calcasieu Parish School Board Superintendent Jason VanMetre and Sulphur High Assistant Principal Amanda VanMetre, Paxton gained a greater appreciation for his teachers and what they do. 'They were such a help,' Paxton said. 'Just being able to say, 'All right, we've been in a classroom. We're going to tell you how teachers think. We're going to tell you how some teachers are.' And it was just a little bit of an insight into education and teachers. I was able to look into teachers' lives, and it truly gave me an appreciation for what teachers do.' With a love of math and science, VanMetre said he will pursue a degree in mechanical engineering starting this fall at Louisiana Tech. 'I always enjoyed being in those classes, whether it was my senior year with Ms. (Whitney) Bass and Ms. (Mary) Billedeaux or freshman year with Mr. (Darian) Roberson and Ms. (Georgia) Broussard,' Paxton said. 'I took physics in my junior year, and that kind of exposed me to the more science engineering aspect. I was in an engineering class my junior year as well, so that really showed me. 'I was like, 'OK, I'm loving what we're doing here. Is there any way I could do this further?' I love this. Come to find out, Louisiana Tech has a very good engineering program. It's a very hands-on experience. When I saw that in Louisiana Tech, I was like, 'All right, I'm sold.'
