Archer's return delayed as England name unchanged side to play India in 2nd test
BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Jofra Archer's test return was deferred after England named an unchanged side to play India in the second test at Edgbaston from Wednesday.
The fast bowler has not played a test since 2021 and rejoined the squad last week. But he missed training on Monday because of 'a family emergency.' He will return on Tuesday, England officials said.
England won the first test at Headingley by five wickets on the last day, chasing down a 371 target.
Archer played his first red-ball match since 2021 for his county side last week.

Swanage Cricket Club suffer defeat in 1st XI defeat
Swanage's 1st XI put up a strong fight but succumbed to defeat against Martinstown. The home side set a formidable target of 392 in their 50-over-a-side match. Despite the valiant efforts of Charlie Dyke and Freddie Long, Martinstown's opening pair amassed 171 runs in just 20 overs. Swanage managed to take wickets, with Dyke claiming three and Ben Hodder, Long and Ryan Stearn each taking two. However, the hosts were bowled out only in the 50th over. The bowlers, led by Mike Gould's four-wicket haul, restricted the hosts to 184-9. The 2nd XI, however, couldn't replicate the 3rd XI's success against a strong Hamworthy side at Days Park. The hosts, led by Mike Nash and John Lewis, got off to a steady start, but a mini-collapse saw them slip from 74-1 to 90-5. The innings was rescued by an 80-run partnership between Michael Barry and Matt Beard, who remained unbeaten on 50 and 47 respectively. The visitors, however, batted superbly in response, reaching the target with two overs to spare for the loss of just three wickets. This marked only the second defeat of the season for Nash's side, who have just lost the top spot at the halfway stage.

More than 100 golfers compete in two-day Oake Manor event

The two-day competition, across the weekend of June 21 and 22, saw "stormy performances" from players on the course, which was in "fantastic condition." Advertisement Saturday's pairs better ball medal competition saw Jack Jones and Sam Prior achieve the top score with a nett 60. On Sunday, Paul Coleman and Richard Cornell scored 47 points in the pairs better ball Stableford. However, it was Harry Storey and Logan Thomas who were crowned the overall winners of the Terence Ball Memorial Trophy. They were 18 under par over the weekend. The runners-up were John Lowe and Mark Wooliscroft, who were 17 under par, while Mike How and Peter Jeanes came third, also at 17 under par. Prizes were awarded for the top 10 positions in the 36-hole competition, with sponsored spot prizes on nine of the holes each day.
