A look back at Chris Brown's dating history, from Rihanna to Karrueche Tran

Business Mayor16-05-2025
Chris Brown has had quite the dating history. With three children from three different mothers and one particularly famous ex, the singer's past and current relationships have often come under scrutiny.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the singer has been charged with grievous bodily harm and remains in custody.
He is currently on tour and is scheduled to play several shows across the UK in June and July.
In the meantime, we take a look back at the some of the singer's notable romantic relationships.

Chris Brown dated Barbadian R&B legend Robyn 'Rihanna' Fenty back when both of them were still in the relative infancy of their careers. They met as teenagers in 2004, during their come-up. They were first photographed backstage at the Jingle Bell Ball in 2005, and their career paths repeatedly crossed, until they eventually ended up in a relationship in 2008.
They broke up for a period in 2009, though they later rekindled their relationship in 2012. 'We've built a trust again, and that's it,' Rihanna told Oprah at the time. 'We love each other and we probably always will. That's not anything that we're going to try to change. That's not something you can shut off if you've ever been in love.' The pair broke up for good in 2013. Despite their past, Chris congratulated Rihanna in 2022 on the birth of her child with A$AP Rocky.

Draya Michele, known for her appearance on Basketball Wives LA, dated Chris for about nine months in 2010, between his stints dating Rihanna. Discussing their breakup on a radio show, she said: 'We just went our separate ways and it was just too much fighting and too many differences. Arguing, sorry. I'm very jealous and I'm a very psycho crazy girlfriend. I act like everybody's baby momma.' After their breakup, they remained friends, and Chris introduced Draya to his future longterm girlfriend, Karrueche Tran. Karrueche Tran (2011–2015)

Karrueche Tran, a socialite and actress, met Chris in 2011 while working as a styling assistant on one of his projects. At this time, she was relatively unknown in the public eye and had a job at Nordstrom in Los Angeles. Their relationship became complicated due to Chris's ongoing connection with Rihanna, something which was hinted at by his ex, Draya Michele. In that same radio interview where she explained their breakup, Michele explained: 'Me and [Chris] always remained friends, and then he was like I want you to meet my girlfriend [Karrueche Tran], she's so cool, meet her. I was like cool,' Michele recalled. 'I don't think I was the ex that she needed to be concerned about. So it was all good for me and her to be cool.'
In 2012, Brown allegedly ended his relationship with Karrueche to avoid hurting her because of his friendship with Rihanna. However, they reunited after Chris's relationship with Rihanna ended. In 2014, Chris Brown fathered a daughter, Royalty, with another woman, Nia Guzman, though he says he didn't know about his daughter until she was eight months old (Nia Guzman and Chris never reportedly dated and have always been cited as 'good friends'). In 2015, Karrueche publicly announced their breakup, citing Chris's infidelity as the reason. Then, ten years later, E News reported that they had been seen together at Coachella, chatting and laughing, alluding to a possible reconciliation. Ammika Harris (2015–2023)

Model Ammika Harris began dating Chris in 2015, following his breakup from Tran. Their relationship remained relatively private, with few public appearances together, making it unclear exactly whether they were still together or not throughout their pairing. Then, in November 2019, they welcomed their son, Aeko Catori Brown, Chris Brown's second child. As of early 2024, reports suggest that while they maintain a close co-parenting relationship, but they are not romantically involved. Read More Tanmay Bhat On Creativity In Advertising

Chris Brown's third baby mama, Diamond Brown, was first linked to the singer in 2019, right around the time he welcomed his son with Ammika Harris. Diamond revealed she was pregnant in 2021, sharing a picture of her bump on Instagram with the caption: 'Just when you think you know love, something little comes along to remind you just how big it really is.'
She welcomed her daughter with Chris Brown, Lovely, in January 2022. In another Instagram post, she wrote: 'The princess is here! Lovely Symphani Brown🤎. My sweet babygirl, it's been a whole day you've been in the world and have already shown me the true meaning of life. I promise to love and protect you always. Forever yours, mommy.'

What Is Going on With ASAP Rocky's Album ‘Don't Be Dumb'?

ASAP Rocky has been teasing his forthcoming album Don't Be Dumb by name for over two and a half years, over the span of which he: performed potential tracks on it at Rolling Loud twice, starred in two high-profile feature films, began raising one infant with Rihanna, welcomed another, and now is waiting on the arrival of a third, oh, and beat a felony assault case levied by his former friend and collaborator that could have sent him to jail for 24 years. While there's understandably been some restlessness and perhaps even annoyance (as Rocky has noted himself) towards the delayed arrival of the album, when you put it in perspective, it'll be a miracle if Don't Be Dumb comes out at all. After announcing a few unmet release dates and divulging details about the album in interview after interview, Rocky's concerns about fan fatigue towards updates alone may have been warranted. His last album, Testing, dropped in 2018. 'I'm in the mixing and mastering realm of it, but I think quite frankly, people are tired of hearing about updates about the album,' he told GQ of Don't Be Dumb in February. On July 3, Rocky dropped 'Pray4DaGang' as an Apple Music exclusive for the first 24 hours, seemingly a new look into a new era. However, social media soon noticed that in its tenure on Apple music alone, the song didn't seem to crack the platform's daily top 200 songs chart (meanwhile, that weekend, Rocky's rival Drake released 'What Did I Miss?' and made a spectacle of it with his Iceman stream, drawing many eyes and landing the song high on the same chart). More from Rolling Stone 'Highest 2 Lowest' Isn't Spike Lee's Best or Worst - Just a Chance to Watch Denzel Go HAM Rihanna Reveals She's Pregnant With Third Child at Met Gala A$AP Rocky Trial: A$AP Relli Makes Surprise Admission in Gun Assault Trial Though both Rocky and Drake came up in the trenches of the Blog Era and defined many elements of rap culture, their lives and careers have taken very different paths, with one chasing superstardom through a constant churn of music, and the other living a fuller, broader life. Will Don't Be Dumb make that dissonance clearer? As we await the album, here's everything we know about Don't Be Dumb so far. April 2022 – ASAP Rocky is Arrested on Felony Gun Charges This happens roughly eight months before Rocky reveals Don't Be Dumb as the title of his next album, but the fallout of his arrest for allegedly shooting his former friend ASAP Relli covers its entire timeline. In April 2022, Rocky was taken into police custody at Los Angeles International Airport after flying in from a private plane from his partner, Rihanna's, native Barbados. May 2022 – Rocky Clarifies That the Album Won't Be Called Though Rocky had teased a project called All Smiles previously, he clarifies with Dazed that his forthcoming album won't be called that. 'One thing I can tell you is that the name isn't gonna be All Smiles – you know, I never publicly said that my album was called All Smiles,' he corrects for them. 'That one is more of a concept project, it's music and more. I'm wrapping up the new album now; I've been shooting so many visuals for it. I don't want to be cliche or sound like a salesman, but I've pushed myself to the limit on everything. Going from that industrial, subversive sound from Testing and then graduating with a more polished sound… I just like where it is.' December 2, 2022 – Metro Boomin Has Entered the Chat In another interview with GQ, Rocky teases that Metro Boomin made major contributions to his fourth album: 'I'm gonna put it to you like this: This next album needs to be just called Flacko Boomin, you hear me?' December 8, 2022 – The Album's Real Name is Revealed While performing on 2 Chainz's Amazon Music Live concert series, Rocky debuts the somber 'Same Problems?' while displaying the portraits of many late rappers like 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., DMX, Nipsey Hussle, Mac Miller, and Pop Smoke. The title, Don't Be Dumb, is also on display and referenced throughout the show. July 20, 2023 – 'Riot (Rowdy Pipe'n)' is Called an Official Album Single In an interview with Complex, Rocky plants a stake in the ground: his latest song at this point, 'Riot (Rowdy Pipe'n),' is a Don't Be Dumb single. Though he condemns constant leaks as a source of his album delays, the song itself is a version of one that was leaked under the name 'Piper' years before, too. 'These dummies got to stop leaking shit,' Rocky says. 'Every time, we have to go back to the drawing board, but right now I think it's in a place where we tightened it up and we really can't make or break anything right now.' A few days later, he would perform another new song, now known as 'Tailor Swif,' at Rolling Loud Miami. While chopping it up with Complex, he shares that in addition to Metro Boomin, Hit-Boy, Tyler, the Creator, Madlib, The Alchemist, and Hitkidd did some production on the album. October 2023 – is Rocky's 'Best Work Yet' In a new Dazed interview, Rocky sets a high bar for his next album. 'I've been really experimenting as usual, and what I like about this is it feels like my best work yet,' he says. 'I want to leave expectations wide and open. I don't want to tell you what to expect. I just want people to experience it how they do naturally.' June 2024 – Gets Its First Release Date While presenting his clothing line American Sabotage in his Paris Fashion Week debut, he plays music from Don't Be Dumb and livestreams the show beyond the posh city streets. Mid-stream, he announces August 30 as its release date and opens up pre-orders. He tells GQ how the clothing line and the album were connected when asked where the name American Sabotage came from. 'I was working on my album and I was thinking about being rebellious and the stuff that we're not really allowed to talk about,' he says. 'It's not about treason or nothing like that, it's more about deciding to do things from a different perspective, taking the hard way instead of the easy way. And sometimes challenging yourself can come across as self-sabotaging. Exceeding time limits and deadlines, that's self-sabotaging. So it's also about talking about your flaws and the struggle that made you.' July 2024 – DJ Kast One Says the Album Will Make Rocky a Permanent Drake Enemy While on the Ebro in the Morning show on New York's Hot 97, DJ Kast One divulges his take on the Don't Be Dumb music he's heard, claiming that Rocky 'is going to be cemented on Drake's list after this.' A player in the Kendrick vs. Drake saga, Rocky has also seemingly tossed shots at the Canadian rapper on songs like Kid Cudi's 'Wow,' Future and Metro Boomin's 'Show of Hands' and his J. Cole collaboration 'Ruby Rosary.' As for Don't Be Dumb, DJ Kast One also says, 'I heard Slick Rick [on it]. That was amazing. I also heard ASAP Rocky definitely addressing a lot of the main topics that are happening out here right now. Let's just say, the list keeps going on strong.' August 2, 2024 – Okay, So Now 'Highjack' is the First Single? In the description of an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, the streamer calls his song 'Highjack' Don't Be Dumb's first single. 'Most of the songs that I usually perform and shit like that, muthafuckers leak it. And once it's leaked, it's just like, 'Nah, it's not on the project,'' Rocky tells Lowe. August 22, 2024 – Delayed to Fall 2024 Once again, blaming leaks in addition to sample clearances, Rocky takes to Twitter to explain the latest roadblock. 'LEAKS & SAMPLE CLEARANCES ARE DISRUPTING THE ALBUM,' he wrote. 'ITS BEEN 6 YEARS & I WANNA MAKE THE BEST ALBUM EVER. IM SORRY FOR THE WAIT.' In better news, in a Billboard cover story, Rocky notes that his hero, the filmmaker Tim Burton, heard the album and loved it: 'I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was f—ing with it heavy.' December 2024 – Fall Has Come and Gone; the Album is Delayed Again Fans who pre-ordered Don't Be Dumb box sets, vinyl, and CDs receive a refund email announcing an early 2025 release date. They also get an 'attached coupon for a gift upon release.' February 2025 – Found Not Guilty in ASAP Relli Assault Trial, Rocky Is Ready to Move On In More Ways Than One On February 18, Rocky was found not guilty of shooting at ASAP Relli after a three-week trial. Just ten days later, he tells GQ he's tired of yapping about his unreleased album. 'The album's done,' Rocky said. 'I just want to drop it. I don't want to keep saying what I'm going to do, and I want to give people what I've been promising them for a long-ass fucking time.' March 2025 – Rocky Performs at Rolling Loud California As one of the popular rap festival's headliners, Rocky began his set aboard a helicopter that had Don't Be Dumb painted across its side. May 2025 – May Show Rocky's Sensitive Side In an interview with Variety, Rocky teases the album's subject matter and a bit of insecurity: 'This fucking album, it represents who I am right now. It's just I hope that it's digestible,' he says. Elsewhere, he adds, 'It's odd because as I get older, I'm more conscious about how I view myself. Describing my life sounds very braggadocious, and I want to figure out how to say it to where it feels more humble, relatable, and sincere, as opposed to just shitting on the next person or making the next person feel down, or just evoking negative shit out of people.' In July, he tells Apple Music's Mehdi Maïzi, 'If I'm out here telling y'all how pretty I am again, it's not talking about I talked about how I fucked your bitch or how I can take your bitch again, it's not really talking about nothing.' July 3 – 'Pray4DaGang' Drops as An Apple Music Exclusive 'Pray4DaGang' gets a seemingly rocky rollout in the public eye, as fans notice the Fourth of July drop doesn't land on Apple's top songs, though it's released exclusively there, and that its music video was pulled from YouTube. Dave Portnoy calls out ‘morons' who think WNBA players shouldn't get more money

Dave Portnoy is fed up with those who believe WNBA players don't deserve a higher payday. In the wake of players wearing warmup shirts that said 'Pay Us What You Owe Us' at Saturday's All-Star Game, the Barstool Sports founder and owner made his stance clear with a lengthy post and subsequent video on X on Sunday. 'I don't know how anybody in the world with a brain, and maybe my brain is just bigger than most, can rationally say women don't deserve more money at this point,' Portnoy said in the video. Portnoy went on to reference how Caitlin Clark's rookie salary, $76,000, is less than what Barstool personalities Nicky Smokes and Ben Mintz make per year, calling the disparity 'insane.' As of the 2024 season, the WNBA's average salary was $147,745, according to DirecTV. Portnoy noted how some WNBA critics have referenced reports of the league losing tens of millions of dollars each year, but said the finances of the league are 'a mess, tied in with the NBA and purposely murky.' 3 Barstool Sports founder and owner Dave Portnoy thinks WNBA players deserve a pay raise. @stoolpresidente/X In October 2024, The Post reported the WNBA would be losing $40 million in the 2025 season. But, as Portnoy put it, the league is 'exploding.' 'Franchise values are exploding. Ticket sales, merch, tv rights all exploding. The players have an opt out in their CBA. Of course they took it. It's all about leverage in re-negotiations and for the 1st time in history of [the] league players have power,' Portnoy wrote. 3 Dave Portnoy attends a game between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun at TD Garden on July 15. NBAE via Getty Images The league agreed to an 11-year, $2.2 billion TV rights deal with Disney, Amazon Prime Video and NBCUniversal last summer, and TV ratings (up 23%), ticket sales (up 26%) and attendance (13%) are all surging halfway through the season, according to NPR. 'The players make virtually nothing while the entire league explodes,' Portnoy added. 'Of course they deserve more money.' Portnoy, who is one of Caitlin Clark's most vocal superfans, also refuted the notion that the league's recent success is unsustainable because it over-relies on Clark's star power. 'This league is so white hot right now, and I know everyone's going to say, 'Well, it's only Caitlin Clark, it's a one-person league,'' Portnoy said. 'Caitlin Clark was 100% the match that lit the fuse…but, Caitlin's not going anywhere. She's year two of a 15-year career.' 3 Fever star Caitlin Clark wearing a 'Pay Us What You Owe Us' shirt before the WNBA All-Star Game on July 19. Getty Images He added that other young stars like Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers and the soon-to-be pro JuJu Watkins mark a bright future for the league, too. Portnoy concluded by writing that if he could purchase a Boston-based WNBA franchise for $250 million, he 'would do it without blinking.' 'That's all you got to know about the WNBA finances,' he added.

'I got everything I wanted but the Claret Jug'

Rory McIlroy was determined to soak it all in this time. Six years ago, when the Open Championship returned to Royal Portrush for the first time in 68 years, the star attraction chose isolation. He tried to live out the week in his own world and let everything else happen around him. This week, he has embraced home comforts and accepted the adulation, from his red-eye Monday practice round through to being roared on by thousands on the 72nd hole. He has given people his time, signed countless autographs, acknowledged adoring fans in between shots. He even gave everyone a bonus look at the Green Jacket. The result has been a week that, in his words, had everything but his second Claret Jug. His consolation was one of the most emotional receptions he has ever experienced on a golf course. As he strode towards the final green on Sunday, McIlroy admirably held it together. Clearly, it wasn't easy. "I tried as best as I could to keep my emotions in check, especially walking up the last there and that reception," said McIlroy, who closed with a two-under 69 to finish seven adrift of Scottie Scheffler. "It's been an awesome week. I've gotten everything I wanted out of this week apart from a Claret Jug, and that's just because one person was just a little bit better than the rest of us. "I feel so thankful and just so lucky that I get to do this, I get to do this in front of this crowd. Hopefully I'll have one or two Opens left here, if the R&A decide to keep coming back, probably one while I'm still competitive and another one while I'm more grey than I already am." Scheffler completes dominant Open win at Portrush 'Excited' McIlroy takes Portrush crowd on Open thrill ride McIlroy's play was a microcosm of his career. At times, he was a showman (Saturday's eagle on 12), while at others he got in his own way (three bogeys in four holes on Thursday and a double at 10 on Sunday). Ultimately, he gave himself too much to do going into the final round. Trailing Scheffler by six, McIlroy needed quick birdies to ignite the crowd and make the frontrunner as uncomfortable as possible. A two-under 34 on the front nine failed to do that and when McIlroy frittered away two shots on the 10th, it was clear the championship was beyond his reach. The crowd remained huge, but the energy was different to Saturday, and that "keep your head up, Rory" could be heard regularly was a reflection of a challenge fizzling out. "I felt like I did nine, and 10 today were the ones that killed me," he added. "Not that...I was never going to get to 17-under, I don't think." What's next for McIlroy? A tie for seventh drew the curtain on an unforgettable major season for McIlroy. It started with the career high at the Masters as he realised a lifelong ambition and finally completed his career Grand Slam. A month later, he barely broke into the top 50 at the US PGA Championship, but his week was overshadowed by a failed driver test and his media shutout. He let his temper get the better of him at times at the US Open, but the emotions stirred by Portrush were much more positive. Now, he can reflect during a down period, before finishing out his season with the FedEx Cup play-offs and the Ryder Cup in New York. "I feel like being back in Europe for a bit was a nice reset," said McIlroy, who added he will maintain a light playing schedule in order to be "fresh" for Europe's bid to retain the Ryder Cup. "Yeah, I feel like I'm getting back to where I want to be, and we've still got a lot of golf left this year with obviously Ryder Cup being the big one in there in September." 'Scheffler the bar we're trying to reach' McIlroy was keen to praise Scheffler during his final meeting with the media at Portrush. Since the Northern Irishman's triumph at Augusta, Scheffler has responded by doubling his major tally and ticking off another two legs in his own slam hunt. "None of us could hang with Scottie this week. He's an incredible player. He's been dominant this week. Honestly, he's been dominant for the last couple years. He is the bar that we're all trying to get to. "In a historical context, you could argue that there's only maybe two or three players in the history of the game that have been on a run, the one that Scottie's been on here for the last 24 to 36 months. Incredibly impressive." Finally, having buried the pain of 2019, McIlroy was asked about the prospect of Opens at Portrush in the future. "I think Portrush has quickly turned into one of the best two or three venues that The Open goes to. Talk to every player this week, and they won't say one single bad thing about the golf course. "Then I just think the way it sets up, from a logistical standpoint, I think the R&A have worked so well with the local government to make sure everything runs smoothly. "It's only been six years since 2019. I'm not sure Portrush is going to have The Open every six years, that would be nice, but I would obviously love it to keep coming back." If and when it does, McIlroy will be front and centre. Whenever that is, he'll know which approach to take.
