Animation of Joe Wicks launched to help children keep fit
Wicks said the Government-backed Activate project aims to 'make movement fun'.
In each clip Wicks' character performs various exercises accompanied by new animated characters known as the Activators.
The first episode has been released on The Body Coach YouTube channel, with more episodes to be released each week over the school summer holidays.
The animated series was launched at Ripple Primary School in Barking, east London, on Monday.
Wicks and Health Secretary Wes Streeting met teachers and parents to discuss keeping children active.
'Activate is designed to make movement fun,' said Wicks.
He told the PA news agency: 'We live in a world where it's very easy to be sedentary, it's very easy to rely on ultra-processed foods.
'So I think I've created something I personally think is different – it's about using technology and disrupting that passive screen time, and actually saying 'Come on kids, get up, let's do it'.
'I just want more people to see it and give it a go, because I know when they do, I think they're going to fall in love with it – the characters, the workouts and the music.
'It's going to be a really genuine useful thing for parents, I think, to get their kids moving.
'Because sometimes, especially in the summer holidays, kids are reluctant to move, this is something I think can really help with that.'
Wicks went on: 'Activity doesn't have to be this perfect hour a day where you have an instructor or you're in a gym, actually, five minutes can be enough.'
Health Secretary Wes Streeting told PA: 'Activate is a really great project, and the Government's proud to support it, because we want to get children, young people, more fit and active.
'One in five children are leaving primary school with obesity, so this is a really big challenge for us.
'And the truth is, if this was just a sort of boring government video it wouldn't have nearly as much success and impact as I think Activate is going to have, where you've got the energy and dynamism of Joe Wicks combined with some of the best creative minds and talents in our country and around the world.
'I think it's going to make it fun, I think it's going to make it accessible and that is the key to getting children and young people fit and active – meeting them where they are, making it accessible, making it free and making it fun.'
Almost one in 10 children in reception year at school were obese, according to figures from the National Childhood Measurement Programme in England.
This rises to 22.1% of pupils in Year 6, according to the 2023/24 data.

New stamps mark 75th anniversary of Peanuts comic strip
The eight stamps include specially adapted artworks from classic comic strips that feature the main characters, with some special British touches. Snoopy is seen perched on a red postbox with Woodstock, while Lucy and Linus enjoy a day at the seaside, building a sandcastle. One stamp shows Snoopy and Woodstock as Buckingham Palace guards (Royal Mail/PA) Another stamp shows Snoopy and Woodstock on guard duty outside Buckingham Palace. In another, Schroeder plays Pomp and Circumstance No 1 by Edward Elgar on the piano as Lucy, Snoopy and Charlie Brown celebrate nearby. Charlie Brown and Franklin are captured playing football, and another stamp shows Charlie Brown and Snoopy in the rain. For the 50 years Charles Schulz wrote Peanuts, the comic was read by millions around the world, and at one time was published in 2,600 newspapers globally. Lucy and Linus are shown with their sandcastle on another stamp (Royal Mail/PA) David Gold, Royal Mail's director of external affairs and policy, said: 'For generations, Peanuts has brought laughter, comfort, and quiet wisdom. Netflix loses popular show as it signs deal to join streaming rival
Sophie-May Williams Published July 14, 2025 2:42pm Link is copied Comments Netflix is home to many shows and movies of all different genres. If you often spend more time scrolling than watching, it's probably because there are literally thousands to choose from. While some are so successful that they're renewed for new seasons, others aren't so lucky. This is especially true for non-Netflix originals, many of which are booted from the platform after a certain amount of time to make way for new content (Picture: Getty Images) One particular show has been hosted on Netflix since 2020 and has built a strong fanbase in the process. However, users will soon have to say goodbye when it's moved to a different platform completely, according to Deadline. Yep, we're talking about CoComelon, the 'pre-school powerhouse' that began life as a children's YouTube channel (Picture: Netflix/Everett/Shutterstock) CoComelon specialises in 3D animation videos of traditional nursery rhymes and original kids' songs. As of this month, it's the third most-subscribed and second most-viewed channel on YouTube. So why, considering the success of the channel and its content, is Netflix making the decision to ditch the show? (Picture: Michael Mccarthymet) First things first - parents and children - let us start by saying that CoComelon won't be kicked out of the streaming world for good. It's actually just transferring to the capable hands of Disney Plus. This isn't to say CoComelon hasn't fared well on Netflix: for the five years it's been hosted by the streamer, it's performed consistently. However, Deadline noted that in recent times ratings have slightly dropped (Picture: Netflix) Interestingly, the report states Netflix tried to renew its CoComelon streaming license, even offering a higher fee than what it currently pays. Despite this, Disney Plus reportedly still won the war and outbid the platform, highlighting the company's interest in this type of content. CoComelon Lane - a Netflix original spin off - is expected to continue streaming on the platform. A CoComelon movie distributed by Universal is also in the works for 2027, meaning Disney Plus could see a spike in interest during that time (Picture: Netflix) Netflix account holders still have a while before CoComelon transitions to Disney Plus in January 2027. Viewers will then need to sign up for a Disney Plus account or watch the available content on YouTube (Picture: Netflix/Everett/Shutterstock) CoComelon is a children's YouTube channel operated by Candle Media-owned Moonbug Entertainment. It started in 2006 under the name checkgate, before being rebranded as ABC Kid TV. In 2018, it was rebranded again to CoComelon. It was created by Jay Jeon (Picture: Netflix) The channel's videos target two- to five-year-olds and their parents, and feature 3D animated children, adults, and animals, who interact with each other in everyday life scenarios. The content also includes standalone music videos, compilations, and livestreams, with lyrics always appearing at the bottom of the screen (Picture: Netflix)

Outstanding in his field... tractor boy Julian all revved up for Farmer's Bash
But now he's experienced a trailer of a different kind — pulling one while driving a tractor. The local TV legend was given a crash course in driving the farm machinery for a stunt to promote the Farmer's Bash Weekender at Boucher Playing Fields. Julian will appear on the first day of the festival to introduce some of the acts, as well as starring with his own DJ set. He said: 'When I saw I was having a trailer in the back of it, I nearly died because I thought: 'How am I going to manoeuvre that?' 'But, surprise, surprise, with the guy showing me what to do, I didn't do too bad.' That man was Co Down farmer Michael McGreevy, who enjoyed banter with the presenter for a YouTube video filmed by FarmFLiX. Julian added: 'I mean, when I was standing beside it looking up at it, I thought: 'Oh my God!' But once I got into it and I was shown the right levers and knobs, I was a bit more confident... it was in a field and I wasn't going to knock too many things over. Nobody died!' He will be keeping it country for his star turn at the Farmer's Bash next month. But not with his music — he's going to dress the part instead. He explained: 'I'm doing an hour of DJ bangers, which the public should like, but the only country twist will be the gear I'm wearing for it. I'll be looking for a sort of farmer-ish checked shirt and jeans and everything — and I'll have a cowboy hat as well.' He is as busy as ever, having left UTV four years ago, but remains modest about his status as a 'national treasure'. He said: 'No, I don't (think I am), but people tell me that I am, and, I mean, that's very nice, you know? It's nice to be told that, it's good people are always pleased to see me and everything. 'When you think about it, it was nearly 35 years doing that job four nights a week, and also doing my job with Air Canada at Heathrow. 'It was running about between the two. It was like breakneck speed the whole time. 'Thank goodness I am still busy, I'm very lucky that people still want me to be at things and host things, and now the DJing is such good fun to do because people love a good bop with good, hard music, and they enjoy that. 'Carolyn Stewart helped me a bit, because I wasn't very aware of how to do the mixing and everything. But she taught me a bit. But what I have learned is actually, when there's a good crowd there, and the music is banging, if you don't get the mix quite right, they don't notice.' He's also working on his autobiography. He said: 'It's been talked about, and I've got a couple of chapters written, but I've been so busy recently that I haven't had any more time. 'I would need to go away somewhere and write over a weekend or something to get some more chapters in. 'There's a lot to tell. And, I mean, I've seen a lot of life in my careers and I've had a lot of great experiences which are good to talk about. So, I might get round to it yet, and when you live in Northern Ireland, it is warts and all, you know. 'I mean, there's so much that happens that some people would be quite shocked at, but it's just part of the way life has been. 'In both careers, I was in the thick of it, really, in the airline industry and also on UTV, because I got to meet quite a lot of stars, which was good.' That includes one of the acts appearing at the Farmer's Bash, Boyzlife, pop duo Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden of Boyzone and Westlife fame, who Julian mentions during his innuendo-filled tractor ride video. Other big names at the two-day extravaganza include The Kaiser Chiefs, The 2 Johnnies, The Coronas and B*Witched. He added: 'I'm looking forward to seeing Boyzlife, because when I was at UTV they were in quite a lot. 'I used to have 'Julian' mugs in those days and one of the guys, every time I saw him, he asked me for another one. So I think he's got a good collection. 'I'm looking forward to meeting them and a brave few of the acts that are going to be there. I don't know quite yet who I'm going to be introducing, but we'll suck it and see, as they say in the best places.'
