KNM to convene creditors' meeting to finalise RM1.19bil debt settlement plan
In a statement, KNM said the SoA marks a key step in the group's financial recovery efforts, aiming to provide a fair and sustainable debt settlement solution for all stakeholders.
'The SoA, developed in close consultation with the company's major creditors, proposes full recovery of the compromised debt amounting to RM1.19bil for the combined group, with creditors agreeing to waive accumulated interest and penalties totaling RM182mil as of the cut-off date, June 30, 2023,' KNM said.
Under the terms of the proposal, creditors will receive 100% recovery of principal, reflecting a strong and responsible financial restructuring effort, as well as settlement through the issuance of a five-year zero-coupon redeemable unsecured loan stock (RULS) totalling RM204mil.
Additionally, KNM said repayment of the RULS will be made via a combination of proceeds from any funds released from the escrow account tied to the recent Borsig sale to NGK Insulators Ltd, as well as proceeds from the sale of three assets - Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the FBM Hudson facility.
'To strengthen KNM's ability to resume and grow its core operations, creditors have also agreed to allow the company to retain RM100mil in upfront cash proceeds from the Borsig sale. These funds will be utilised as working capital to revitalise and invest in KNM's fabrication operations in Malaysia,' it said.
To accelerate the repayment, KNM will use any excess funds—beyond the RM100mil initial cash injection and six months' working capital—to redeem outstanding RULS on a rolling basis.

EcoWorld Malaysia well positioned for growth
RHB Research noted that recurring income from data centres will bump up EcoWorld Malaysia's earnings for its financial year ending Oct 31, 2028. PETALING JAYA: Eco World Development Group Bhd (EcoWorld Malaysia) has a solid war chest to grow its property investments and for land acquisitions, analysts say. RHB Research said the property developer's disposal of 410 acres of industrial land has provided proceeds of RM1.71bil. In addition to RM5.22bil in unbilled sales and RM600mil in sukuk funding, the cash inflows come in handy to fund working capital to kick-start new projects, finance investments in data centre facilities and acquire new land. The research house said such initiatives would propel EcoWorld Malaysia into a high-growth phase. 'We expect net gearing to hover around the current level of 0.55 times over the next one to two years, as EcoWorld Malaysia is in an expansionary mode.' The research house also noted that recurring income from data centres will bump up EcoWorld Malaysia's earnings for its financial year ending Oct 31, 2028 (FY28). 'FY28 earnings should see a quantum leap on maiden contributions from EcoWorld Malaysia's build-to-lease data centre for Pearl Computing Malaysia. 'We estimate initial contributions from the lease income at around RM100mil-RM110mil a year, representing over 20% of our FY27 earnings estimates. 'Key risks are an unexpected slowdown in economic growth and unfavourable turn in regulations for data centres,' the research house said. EcoWorld Malaysia is also seen as the best proxy to Malaysia's the current property sector upcycle. The developer's land is strategically located in key high-growth areas, such as the Klang Valley and Iskandar Malaysia in Johor, which are benefitting from upcoming infrastructure projects and influx of foreign direct investments in Johor and Selangor. The company has total land holdings of 4,611 acres, of which 3,515 acres, 943 acres and 153 acres are located in the central, southern, and northern regions, respectively. 'The rapid monetisation of 410 acres of industrial land over the past year, on top of usual land utilisation, indicates highly efficient land turnaround time and solid management execution track record.' Going forward, RHB Research said three key projects are set to drive EcoWorld Malaysia's property sales from FY26. It has been a few years since EcoWorld Malaysia kick-started any sizeable greenfield development. In the pipeline are Eco Radiance in Semenyih, Selangor; Eco Botanic 3 in Iskandar Malaysia Johor; and Eco Business Park VII in Negri Sembilan. 'Cash flow should be manageable too, given the rest of its projects are entering their life cycles of eight to 10 years. Hence, cash flow from these mature projects should be consistent,' the research house said. RHB Research initiated coverage on EcoWorld Malaysia with a 'buy' call and a target price of RM3 per share.

MyCIF made RM1.2bil co-investments
Securities Commission Malaysia building in Kuala Lumpur PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Co-Investment Fund (MyCIF) has exceeded RM1bil in total co-investments since its inception, playing a key role in providing financing for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Malaysia. In its 2024 annual performance report released yesterday, MyCIF said total co-investments reached RM1.19bil, with RM264mil invested in 2024 alone. The RM1.19bil total co-investments by MyCIF represented 4.6 times of the RM260mil total funds disbursed from the government to date into the programme. The Securities Commission (SC), which administers MyCIF, said this demonstrated 'efficient use of public funds'. 'MyCIF has attracted 4.1 times in private sector funding for every ringgit invested, demonstrating a strong crowding-in effect. 'This saw a 21.4% increase in total private investment,' the SC pointed out. Since its inception, more than 9,500 MSMEs have benefitted from the co-investments by MyCIF, which was set up by the Finance Ministry under Budget 2019. Negri has submitted application to SPAN to review domestic water rates, says MB
SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government has submitted an application to the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) to review water rates for domestic users in the state. Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun ( pic ) said an increase was necessary to enable state water concessionaire Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan (SAINS) to continue operating. He said the recent increase in water tariffs would add to SAINS' operating expenditure. "We are proposing a marginal increase for households as we need to understand that SAINS' operating costs will surely go up with the increase in tariffs. "SAINS has also been giving some form of subsidy for a certain percentage of water usage and it has to increase water rates marginally to enable it to continue its operations," he said. Aminuddin said a slight increase was also justified as about RM20mil annually is used to replace old and broken pipes in the state. He said SAINS also had to spend money to repair and upgrade water tanks to ensure supply in some areas is not disrupted. He also said more funds would be needed for more water tanks in areas with water supply issues. Aminuddin said the state would apply for a RM100mil allocation from the Federal Government to improve the water supply network in the state. "This is over and above the allocation set aside by SAINS," he said, adding that he hoped consumers would understand that the proposal to increase water tariffs was not to enrich Sains but to allow it to continue operating and provide quality water supply. Last week, SPAN said it had received applications from 10 states to review their water tariff rates. SPAN is empowered by the Water Services Industry Act 2006 to regulate and monitor the economic, technical, and social aspects of the water supply and sewerage services industry in Peninsular Malaysia, Putrajaya and Labuan.
