Katherine Heigl can't 'fathom' ditching family life for Hollywood comeback

Perth Now29-04-2025
Katherine Heigl couldn't "fathom" swapping her Utah life for a return to Hollywood.
The '27 Dresses' actress - who has children Naleigh, 15, Adalaide, 13, and Joshua, eight, with her husband Josh Kelley - left Los Angeles several years ago to focus on her family, and she couldn't see herself uprooting her life to plot a return to acting.
She told E! News: "When they're little, that's the most delicious and exciting time for you as a parent, but when they're teenagers is when they need you the most, and that's where I'm at.
"I just don't see how I could go off and make a movie for three months or a television series for nine months.
"Nothing shoots in Utah, so I have to go on location, and it's just it's not something right now that I can fathom doing successfully.
"I think I would be so torn and divided. I don't know how much of my attention I could give a project when I'm worried about my kids at home."
Katherine's last movie role was in 2021's 'Fear of Rain' - although she has been cast as Patty Amore in musical rom-com 'That's Amore!' - and she hasn't appeared on television since the second part of 'Firefly Lane' season two aired in 2023.
Occasionally, the 46-year-old star - who has found "so much joy and contentment and clarity and grounding" in her new life - wonders if she should be trying to rediscover her acting career.
She explained: "Sometimes I ask myself if I should be in the game, if I should be hustling, if I should be more ambitious. And I just think I really don't want to.
"If you don't want that, then don't do it, just because you think that's what you're supposed to do, or that's what society expects from you."
Instead, the 'Grey's Anatomy' finds herself in a "happy and content" place spending time with her kids.
She added: "I'm really happy and content and I'm so grateful for the years I had in the industry, in the hustle.
"My children were younger, and though I will always regret so much of the time I missed with them while I was hustling, while I was working, I am grateful to be here now."

Sarah Jessica Parker is not 'overly eager' to become an empty nester

Sarah Jessica Parker is not "overly eager" to become a so-called empty nester. The 60-year-old actress has James, 22, and 16-year-old twins Tabitha and Marion with husband Matthew Broderick, and Sarah acknowledges that her life will change in dramatic fashion once all of her kids leave home. During an upcoming appearance on The Best People with Nicolle Wallace - a clip of which has been shared with E! News - the actress explains: "The idea of leisure is pretty amazing to think about. "But I'm not overly eager for it, because I don't want it until I know that my children are pursuing their next stage of life in their academic careers. When they go to college, I can think about travelling in September." Sarah already has a number of projects in the works, and she doesn't have any intention of slowing down in her professional life. She said: "You don't imagine days where you're like, 'Hmm, what should I do today?' Because that's just not been - no fault but my own - the way I've functioned." Despite this, Sarah is planning to travel more when her twins do leave home. Asked how she might spend her free time, Sarah replied: "Probably travel more. There are times that other countries are at their best, and right now with my children in school, I can't go where I would wanna go." Meanwhile, Sarah previously revealed that she wants her children to be able to "take care of themselves" financially. The Hollywood star told The E! News Sitdown: "I really want my children to be educated in the ways that are fulfilling to them. "I don't think that there is one way to be an educated person or to be equipped to be an adult and try to fashion a life for yourself after what would be considered 'finishing college' - let's say 22 years old. "You want for them to be pursuing things that are exciting and challenging and hard and gratifying and to be able to ultimately take care of themselves, support themselves - emotionally, financially, and that they can be in the world and be a reliable person to themselves and to other people. And so we talk about work like that."

Ariana Madix's Love Island look 'requires a team effort'

Ariana Madix is constantly seeking "inspo" for her Love Island USA looks. The 40-year-old reality star has revealed that she's doing her best to stay in tip-top condition while hosting Love Island in Fiji. Speaking to E! News, Ariana explained: "I am in the gym all the time, unless I'm in the villa, depending on what time I go in, I may or may not go to the gym. But the gym is very important. So, I'm working out, I am drinking a lot of water." Despite this, Ariana insists she's not too strict with her approach to fitness and wellness. The TV star - who began hosting Love Island USA in 2024 - said: "I'm going to have some wine here and there. But I do try to keep things protein heavy." Ariana has turned heads with some of her eye-catching outfits on the reality TV show. But she admits that it requires a "team effort" to prepare for the series. She said: "I definitely have a lot of input with the looks but it's a team effort, from Emily Men, my stylist. "We do fittings before I leave and we are constantly sending each other inspo. Then she finds the most amazing things and then once we get here, we get the looks." Meanwhile, Ariana previously revealed that she loves hosting Love Island USA. The former Vanderpump Rules star told Parade: "I'm so excited. I just love the show, and I feel like we had such an amazing season last season, and I'm just so excited to be a part of it and to go back. "I love being the host of my favourite show." As the host, Ariana is required to be "unbiased" towards the contestants. However, Ariana admits that it's not always easy to maintain a neutral stance. She said: "[Something] I definitely learned about myself - that I really empathise with so much of what everyone goes through on the show - [is] that it's difficult for me to keep my personal thoughts and feelings at the door, but that it's such an important thing to do because as the host, I can't really be too forthcoming with what I think. Because of course I watch all the episodes, I watch everything, and I have to be very much unbiased, and I learned how difficult that really is to do."
