
Moroccan High School Robotics Team Wins First Place at US Global Competition
Rabat – The Moroccan robotics team 'Robotics For Future' from the 11 Janvier High School in Moulay Yacoub has won first place at the World Robotics Championship at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
The event took place in Massachusetts, United States, with the participation of 108 teams from across the world.
The Moroccan team was recognized in the Robot Performance category, according to a statement from the Ministry of Education.
'Throughout the competition, the team delivered an outstanding performance, further distinguished by the selection of their innovative project as one of the best at the championship,' added the statement.
It noted that the team showcased their project on the main stage in front of all participants. The Moroccan robotics team 'Robotics For Future'
This marks Robotics For Future's second win at the championship, having earned the same title last year. This victory is 'the result of months of dedicated work and ambition,' says the ministry.
Meanwhile, the Moulay Yacoub province says this international recognition reflects the progress being made in the fields of education and innovation, as well as the strong support provided to young talents and local initiatives.
The province added that it has helped the team take part in national and international competitions and supported the creation of a special robotics space.
This space was built for the team for MAD 271,750, as part of a program that supports youth development. A new innovative project is also planned for 2025.
The upcoming project aims to boost creativity and develop digital and technical skills in robotics and programming. It is a partnership between the Provincial Human Development Committee, the Ministry of Education's local office, and the Matrix Association for education and cultural development.
The project, launched on the 20th anniversary of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), will benefit over 4,000 students in the province and has a total budget of MAD 600,000. Tags: MoroccoroboticsstudentsUS

Getech, Sound Energy Launch HyMaroc to Unlock Morocco's Hydrogen and Helium Reserves
British geoscience firm Getech and energy transition company Sound Energy have come together to form a new joint venture in Morocco. The newly created company, HyMaroc Limited, will focus on exploring the country's natural reserves of hydrogen and helium, resources that could play a pivotal role in tomorrow's energy mix. This partnership follows the completion of a regional survey that identified promising underground zones across Moroccan territory. According to Getech, these findings mark the beginning of a new chapter, as HyMaroc prepares to seek exclusive rights to explore and develop these sites. The company now stands at the center of efforts to map Morocco's subsurface potential and, eventually, launch targeted drilling campaigns. For Getech's Commercial Director Max Brouwers, Morocco offers more than just geological promise. 'Getech's unique hydrogen and helium exploration workflows are built on the twin foundations of our hugely valuable global geophysics data and our ability to understand and model the genetic factors involved in their formation; categorising the geological model into sources, migration paths, reservoirs, traps and seals in much the same way as the petroleum industry has successfully done for many decades,' Brouwers said. At the heart of the venture lies native hydrogen, often referred to as 'white hydrogen.' Unlike hydrogen produced through electrolysis or fossil fuels, white hydrogen occurs naturally underground. Its discovery in commercial quantities could offer a low-cost, low-emission alternative to conventional hydrogen sources. Morocco's large inland basins and its rising status as a renewable energy hub enhance its appeal. In addition to hydrogen, helium, often found in the same reservoirs, brings further value, given its critical use in medical, scientific, and high-tech applications. Maroc Telecom, Inwi Announce MAD 4.4 Billion Investment to Boost Home Fiber, 5G Deployment
Rabat – Maroc Telecom and Inwi announced joint ventures under Uni Fiber and Uni Tower to accelerate the deployment of fiber-to-the-home, also known as FTTH, and 5G networks across Morocco. The planned investment for the project is set at MAD 4.4 billion ($486 million) for the initial three-year phase. A joint statement today said the establishment of the joint ventures comes as part of an agreement between Maroc Telecom and Wana Corporate in March. Morocco's National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency authorized the joint ventures on June 18. The statement emphasized that the joint ventures seek to expand access to high-speed internet, with Uni Fiber, deploying the passive infrastructure required to provide fiber to the home services, with a target of one million connections within two years and three million within five years. As for Uni Tower, it is expected to build new towers or refurbish existing ones, with a target of 2,000 towers in three years and 6,000 towers within 10 years. The statement conveyed the two companies' pledges in offering 'open, transparent, and non-discriminatory access to their infrastructure to all duly authorized operators, in full compliance with the applicable regulations.' Both companies concluded their statements by expressing thanks to the authority and stakeholders for their support. They also reaffirmed their commitment to actively contributing to the technological and economic development of Morocco.
