Gold Derby recently gathered together four top TV showrunners to discuss how they landed their first job, what advice they would share with people starting out in show business, and what some of their favorite TV shows were that inspired them to work in Hollywood. Joining our Meet the Experts: Showrunners roundtable panel are The Better Sister showrunner Regina Corrado, Deli Boys and Shifting Gears showrunner Michelle Nader, Overcompensating showrunner Scott King, and Three Women showrunner Laura Eason.

'Deli Boys' and 'Shifting Gears' showrunner Michelle Nader says both shows 'are about humanity and make people laugh'
"I actually came up through ensemble theater as a playwright," says Eason. "I was artistic director of the theater company. I was a writer, actor, director. In that capacity, I sat in a bunch of different seats. When I came into television, I had already done sort of producing, people management, running a staff, looking at a budget. A lot of the things that writers in a writers' room don't actually do. When I was able to see what the showrunner did — I thought, 'I hope one day that I get to do that.' I had my eye on it for a while."
Corrado could relate to being in the writers' room. "You're sort of confined to create an environment in a room," she says. "I'm very committed to fostering environments that are nourishing, that are fun. Sometimes we get lost in the fear of what we do. As a showrunner I thought, 'Gosh! If you could get in that position you could create an entire show where people were happy to come to work. Is that possible? That was the goal for me. It's so much more than just writing. It's such a big boss job. [The Better Sister] was my first showrunning job and it was incredible."
Nader rose through the ranks of comedy, noticing there were never female showrunners anywhere she worked. "I was learning from the way guys did it," she recalls. "In comedy, that meant stay for 24 hours a day and never want to go home. I was like, 'There's got to be a better way.' We were just wasting a lot of time. Women are natural multi-taskers in a way I didn't see with men. I'm very efficient — and I actually really like it. I like being able to put an imprint on something. Maybe I'm a little bit of a control freak."
King began as a writer on Mad TV before working his way up to head writer, and eventually landing his first showrunning gig on Hulu's Difficult People. "I got a very lucky call from Julie Klausner because I had worked with her. That's how I got my first opportunity. I am so co-dependent and wrapped up in everyone's experience — it became a job where I could use that for good."
After sharing valuable life lessons, the panelists chat about some of their favorite TV shows that inspired them: Batman, My So-Called Life, SCTV, and Seinfeld.

Seth Rogen on the verge of making Emmys history with 4 wins for ‘The Studio'

Seth Rogen is the odds-on favorite to win so many Emmys for The Studio, he'll need to bring a mantelpiece as his plus-one. According to Gold Derby's predictions for the 2025 Emmys, Rogen is out front to win Best Comedy Series (for which he's a producer), Best Comedy Actor (for playing Matt Remick, the new head of Continental Studios), and Best Comedy Directing (for "The Oner"). Plus, he's the runner-up in Best Comedy Writing (for "The Promotion"), behind only the Hacks showrunning trio of Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky (for "A Slippery Slope"). More from Gold Derby Chaos, comedy, and chemistry: Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne ready to Apple TV+'s 'Platonic' to a new level in Season 2 Who is Lynette Howell Taylor? 5 fun facts about the new Academy president Should Rogen win all four, he'd be the only person in Emmy history to win those specific trophies in the same year. In 2020, Daniel Levy won three of the four for Schitt's Creek, but his acting award was for supporting, not lead. Here's what Rogen tells Gold Derby about potentially making history: To date, Levy is one of only three people to have won four Emmys in a single season, the others being Amy Sherman-Palladino for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in 2018 (comedy series, directing, writing, and music supervision), and Moira Demos for Making a Murderer in 2016 (documentary series, directing, writing, and picture editing). Prior to this year, Rogen had amassed five Emmy nominations throughout his career for writing Da Ali G Show (2005), acting in Pam & Tommy (2022), and producing The Boys (2021), The Boys Presents: Diabolical (2022), and Pam & Tommy. He has yet to win. The Studio is Rogen and Evan Goldberg's satirical Apple TV+ comedy that chronicles the behind-the-scenes antics of a fictional Hollywood studio, from promoting films, to notes from executives, to the dramatic casting process, to attending awards shows. The series received a total of 23 Emmy nominations, the most ever for a first-year comedy. (Funnily enough, Apple broke its own record from 2021 with Ted Lasso's 20 bids.) Besides Rogen's four notices for producing, acting, directing, and writing, The Studio is also up for supporting players Ike Barinholtz (as Sal Saperstein), Kathryn Hahn (as Maya Mason), and Catherine O'Hara (as Patty Leigh), and guest stars Bryan Cranston (as Griffin Mill) and, for playing themselves, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie, Martin Scorsese, and Zoë Kravitz. The comedy's below-the-line bids are for casting, cinematography, costumes, hairstyling, music composition, music supervision, picture editing, production design, sound editing, and sound mixing. The last time somebody garnered nominations in Rogen's four specific categories of Best Comedy Series, Best Comedy Actor, Best Comedy Directing, and Best Comedy Writing was in 2023 for Barry auteur Bill Hader. Amazingly, Hader achieved that feat for each of Barry's four seasons, totaling 16 noms. He won the acting award twice in 2018 and 2019, but lost the other 14 bids. Prior to Hader, Donald Glover of Atlanta fame reaped the same four nominations in 2017 (winning for acting and directing) and 2018 (losing all four). And then there are people from decades ago like Alan Alda (M*A*S*H), who received acting, writing, and directing nominations or even wins, but were not considered producers at the time, whereas they would be by today's Hollywood standards. Winning four trophies in a single awards ceremony is definitely in this year. In March, Anora filmmaker Sean Baker took home four Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. The photo of Baker trying to juggle his four Oscars in his arms quickly went viral on social media. Seth Rogen only has about six weeks to perfect his trophy-holding abilities. But remember, Seth, Emmys are way more dangerous than Oscars because of the pointy wings. Be careful out there! ‘Jimmy is a liar' and ‘I wish Rachel never came in': Amy slams ‘Big Brother 27' houseguests following eviction

The following interview contains spoilers. Read at your own risk! Amy Bingham's Big Brother journey ended earlier than she had anticipated. The 43-year-old insurance agent from Stockton, Calif., was unanimously evicted on Thursday following Jimmy Heagerty's reign as Head of Household. While disappointed, Amy has come to terms with her fate and is ready to move forward — but not before calling out Jimmy. More from Gold Derby 'Big Brother 27' spoilers: Lauren's HOH reign goes from bad to worse after Veto meeting 'Big Brother 27' spoilers: Here's who wins the Week 3 Veto competition during Lauren's yawn-inducing HOH reign "He's a snake and a liar!" Amy exclaimed during her exit interview with Gold Derby. "He lies constantly, and I was dying to call him out! I couldn't do it in the house — as much as I wanted to — but he was literally lying all the time. I don't know if that's part of his gameplay or if that's just who he really is. I hope it's not who he really is! I will say, he's very charismatic, funny, and fun to be around — but he lies all the time. He's a manipulator. I guess manipulation is part of the game, but I personally can't stand being around lying manipulators." Like many fans tuning in, Amy was left baffled by Jimmy's motivations this week. Despite initially nominating Keanu Soto, Kelley Jorgensen, and Adrian Rocha, all three managed to escape the chopping block, leaving Amy and Cliffton "Will" Williams as the final two nominees for eviction. "I knew if I was up next to Will, I was going home," Amy admits. "When I didn't win the BB Block Buster, I thought, 'That's it. I'm going home.' I couldn't bring myself to campaign against Will — I love him; he's so sweet." "Getting me out? Good for you. I can't win a comp," Amy says sarcastically. "You don't have a better chance without me." When asked who she thinks Jimmy is truly loyal to, Amy admits that she's unsure. "I don't know if he's loyal to anybody," she says. "But the people he seems to be playing the game with so far are Vinny [Panaro], Mickey [Lee], Morgan [Pope], and, to some extent, Zach [Cornell]." Read on for our full Q&A with Amy, where she opens up about her friendship with Rachel Reilly, her experience entering the house as the Accomplice, her predictions for Lauren Domingue's reign as Head of Household, plus her thoughts on who she believes will win — and who she hopes will take home the crown. Gold Derby: What were your thoughts when Rachel walked in the door — and how do you think your game could have been different if she never had? Amy: At this point, I wish she never came in. I love you, Rachel! I wish you were just hosting. I actually thought she was coming in as a host. No, she came to play! I couldn't not be friends with her once I became friends with her. We're about the same age — Mom Squad! I love her. I am a fan of hers, so it was fun to meet her and it was exciting to play with her. It just sucks because I knew it was going to put a target on my back, but I couldn't help it! I'm loyal in the real world and I'm loyal in this game. I didn't know what to do. You entered the game as the Accomplice. What was that first night like, knowing you hadn't officially secured your spot as a permanent player yet? I had so many nerves. You're meeting people and it's the first time ever getting in the house. Then, I had to do these tasks. So I was nervous about all of it. My nerves were high. I'm just glad I did it. I'm glad they pinned it on Rylie [Jeffries] and Zae [Frederich], not me. Sorry, guys, love you. But better them than me. After your eviction, Lauren won HOH. How do you think that will play out? I could not have seen that coming. I would've thought she would've not wanted to win at all yet. I really saw her just floating through until midpoint. She was safe enough. I don't know what she's going to do. Is she going to make a safe move? Put Kelley up? She's already been up. Put Will up? He's already been up. No new blood. Keanu? I don't know. I don't know who her real target would be. I've never really talked game to her. I love her. We talked about girls sticking together and stuff a little bit. But I don't know, it'll be interesting to see. I'm excited to see who she puts up. Why does the house want Keanu out so badly? He lies, too! It's not just Jimmy — Keanu's a liar as well. Honestly, I don't really care because when he talks to me, we don't discuss game. So he doesn't lie to me directly since we don't have anything game-related to talk about. But he lies to other people about the game, especially to Rachel. Rachel was really upset with Keanu most of the time because they had become friends, and she had his back. She even tried to save him a few times, and then he turned on her. That whole situation was crazy. So yeah, she absolutely had a reason to have issues with him. I didn't, personally, because he never lied to my face about anything. Jimmy, on the other hand, definitely did. At this stage, who do you think is in the best position to make it to the end of the game? Mickey and Morgan. They have really aligned themselves to be cushioned by people. They're not targets. They're not really on anyone's radar. They're just smooth, but they're not floating either. They're playing the game. They're not floating. They're pulling some strings and making things happen. I definitely feel like they're in the best spot. Who would you like to see win the game? I hope Ashley [Hollis] wins. I really do. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
