BAuto earnings miss prompts analysts to cut forecasts
According to CIMB Securities, BAuto's results for the fourth quarter of financial year 2025 (4QFY25) fell short, achieving just 95 per cent of its own forecast and 94 per cent of consensus estimates. The miss was largely attributed to a softer contribution from associates than initially anticipated.
As a result, CIMB Securities has revised its net profit projections for financial years 2026 and 2027 (FY26/FY27) downward by 21 to 29 per cent, citing lower associate earnings and tighter margins stemming from a projected decline in sales volume.
The firm now anticipates Mazda sales volume to grow by a modest 5 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 12,000 units in FY26, supported by the planned launch of the CX-60 and CX-80 models in the second half of calendar year 2025 (2HCY25).
"However, the rebound could come at the expense of margins owing to increasing competition for its flagship CX-5 and CX-30 models in the RM100,000–200,000 segment," it said in a note.
CIMB Securities noted that Bermaz Auto delivered 824 units of the XPeng G6 and X9 electric vehicle models in the first eight months of the financial year ending in April 2025.
The firm expects a stronger contribution from XPeng in the financial year ending in April 2026, supported by a full-year sales impact and the potential introduction of new models.
"We estimate XPeng could contribute between RM15 million and RM20 million to the group's pre-tax profit in FY26.
"Beyond XPeng, BAuto is also looking to launch three new EV models under Deepal marques in 2HCY25: the Deepal S07, S05, and E07," it said.
Meanwhile, Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) said it has downgraded its earnings projections for FY26 and financial year 2027 (FY27) by 31.4 per cent, citing a deteriorating automotive outlook with lower anticipated sales and profit margins.
HLIB noted that the launch of the XPeng G6 and X9 contributed to supporting the group's margins for the quarter, partly mitigating the softer performance from the Mazda and Kia brands.
"However, competition in Malaysia is expected to intensify with the influx of Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) offering feature-rich models at competitive prices.
"Similarly, operations in the Philippines continued to face mounting pressure from Chinese entrants," it added.
HLIB has lowered its recommendation on BAuto to 'Sell' from 'Hold', cutting its target price to 78 sen from RM1.05.
Despite the downgrade, the firm noted that BAuto continues to have a solid balance sheet, with a net cash position of RM207.2 million (equivalent to 17.8 sen per share) as of the end of FY25, which supports ongoing dividend distributions.

KOTA KINABALU (July 3): The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen has announced that the Wisma Tionghua project, which is built on a piece of land the USCCAKK co-owns with the Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC), has entered the final stage of negotiations on contract details. 'The realization of the Wisma Tionghua project will establish a solid financial foundation for USCCAKK, as revenue generated from the development will sustain our work in the promotion of Chinese culture, education and association's affairs.' Susan said at the annual general meeting (AGM) 2025, Parents' Day and 50th anniversary celebration of USCCAKK here on Monday. It was learned that the USCCAKK had passed a resolution at the AGM to authorize its committee to sign a joint development agreement with SUCCC and developer Cahaya Riang Sdn Bhd, once the contract details are finalized. 'As landowners, we hope to reach a win-win consensus with our joint venture partner, Cahaya Riang Sdn Bhd, as soon as possible, and to proceed with the signing ceremony for the project to commence construction.' Susan also expressed her gratitude to representatives of USCCAKK member associations for their continued support and for entrusting the negotiation team with full authority to realize the development of Wisma Tionghua, which will open a new chapter for both SUCCC and USCCAKK. Also present were SUCCC president Datuk Michael Lui and Cahaya Riang's representative SK Tan, who briefed the delegates on the progress of the proposed joint venture project. After the AGM, Lui was heartened to see that the USCCAKK has demonstrated the spirit of unity and amicability in the Wisma Tionghua matter, leading him to believe that the project that has been in the works for many years will finally approach realization. 'Neither SUCCC nor USCCAKK currently owns a building. GWM's sales 'outpace 2024 total' in first six months of 2025

It also marks a 20.3 per cent increase from the previous six months, GWM said, without sharing the actual figures. Japan plans ‘world first' deep-sea mineral extraction
TOKYO: Japan will from January attempt to extract rare earth minerals from the ocean floor in the deepest trial of its kind, the director of a government innovation programme said Thursday. Earlier this week the country pledged to work with the United States, India and Australia to ensure a stable supply of critical minerals, as concern grows over China's dominance in resources vital to new technologies. Rare earths -- 17 metals difficult to extract from the Earth's crust -- are used in everything from electric vehicles to hard drives, wind turbines and missiles. China accounts for almost two-thirds of rare earth mining production and 92 percent of global refined output, according to the International Energy Agency. A Japanese deep-sea scientific drilling boat called the Chikyu will from January conduct a 'test cruise' to retrieve ocean floor sediments that contain rare earth elements, said Shoichi Ishii, director of Japan's Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Programme. 'The test to retrieve the sediments from 5,500 metres (3.4 miles) water depth is the first in the world,' he told AFP. 'Our goal... of this cruise is to test the function of all mining equipment,' so the amount of sediment extracted 'doesn't matter at all', Ishii added. The Chikyu will drill in Japanese economic waters around the remote island of Minami Torishima in the Pacific -- the easternmost point of Japan, also used as a military base. Japan's Nikkei business daily reported that the mission aims to extract 35 tonnes of mud from the sea floor over around three weeks. Each tonne is expected to contain around two kilograms (4.4 pounds) of rare earth minerals, which are often used to make magnets that are essential in modern electronics. Deep-sea mining has become a geopolitical flashpoint, with anxiety growing over a push by US President Donald Trump to fast-track the practice in international waters. Beijing has since April required licences to export rare earths from China, a move seen as retaliation for US curbs on the import of Chinese goods. Environmental campaigners warn that deep-sea mining threatens marine ecosystems and will disrupt the sea floor. The International Seabed Authority, which has jurisdiction over the ocean floor outside national waters, is meeting later this month to discuss a global code to regulate mining in the ocean depths. – AFP
