8 Rules Miss Maine USA Pageant Contestants Have to Follow (Yes, Including Jordon Hudson)

Yahoo11-05-2025
The Miss Maine USA pageant takes place this weekend and it's already causing a lot of buzz.
There are several notable names among this year's contestants, including Isabelle St. Cyr, the first transgender contestant to compete in the pageant, and Bill Belichick's girlfriend Jordon Hudson.
Hudson, who is a Maine native raised in Hancock, announced her pageant participation with an Instagram post on April 9 in celebration of International Pageant Day. She revealed that she'll be representing her hometown in the competition.
According to the Miss Maine USA website, the pageant is produced by the Clemente Organization and its founders Laurie Clemente and her husband Anthony. They also helm the state pageant in Massachusetts.
"The Clemente Organization stresses the importance of good sportsmanship, a strong sense of character, and building friendships, and provides a forum for young woman to reach their goals in a positive environment," per the website.
Miss Maine USA, which is a part of the Miss Universe Organization, has evolved its rules in recent years. They include eligibility guidelines, outfits contestants must wear, various rounds participants must endure and more.
According to the Miss Maine USA website, organizers are searching for "diverse young women" who possess more than just beauty, emphasizing intelligence and willingness to "share their hearts and minds as ambassadors" of the state and nation.
"Winning titles of this magnitude catapults young women to instant fame where they simultaneously become role models," the site continues. "There is no end to the possibilities and opportunities that await, and their year as titleholders is certain to be one full of personal growth and development."
Ahead of the pageant this weekend, read on for the rules Miss Maine USA contestants must follow!

Those interested in participating in Miss Maine USA must meet a specific age requirement, per the organization's website. They must be born in 2006 or earlier, making contestants 18 years or older.
If interested and younger than 18 (born between 2006 and 2010), contestant hopefuls can apply for Miss Teen USA. If born in 2006, applicants can choose either division to compete.
Contestants must be United States citizens to compete in Miss Maine USA, including being born in the states or through naturalization. If not, participation is not allowed.
In 2012, the Miss USA pageant changed its rules to be more inclusive of transgender women, as previously reported by NPR. The Miss Maine USA website, states that contestants must "represent and warrant that you are a female," adding that they should be "recognized medically and legally as a female in the United States" to participate in the pageant.
This year, Isabelle St. Cyr will be the first transgender woman to compete in the pageant, following the rule change.
"I'm just doing it because I love pageants and I just happen to be trans,' St. Cyr told Maine's Piscataquis Observer. 'I want to show everyone that trans women absolutely can do this pageant and can do well.'
Clemente Organization assistant director Ava Clemente also told the outlet, "The Miss Universe Organization is committed to being inclusive and reflective of the evolving values of our society... We celebrate all women who embody the values of confidence, community and empowerment that the Miss USA program represents."
Those who want to participate in Miss Maine USA must be — you guessed it — a resident of Maine. Full-time college students in the state of Maine are also allowed.
For Hudson, she's been vocal about her love for her hometown on social media. She has been a longtime champion of the fishing industry, and previously spoke to PEOPLE exclusively about her "nautical family history."
The former Bridgewater State cheerleader has also voiced her political beliefs. In early March, Hudson issued a 'plea' in an open letter to the White House and Donald Trump, asking the president to reconsider the recent decision to cut the federally funded Maine Sea Grant.
"I am Jordon and I speak for the fishermen," she wrote in part on Instagram in a lengthy caption. "I speak for the fishermen, for the fishermen who have no voice."
Miss Maine USA consists of three competition phases, all of which contestants are required to participate in. For Miss Maine USA specifically, they include the swimsuit round, the evening gown round and the interview round.
These rounds are preliminary and judged. "Contestants with the highest composite scores become semifinalists," per the organization's website.
For the evening gown round, contestants must wear dresses that they selected themselves.
"Attention is focused on each contestant's overall appearance, self-confidence, and the beauty she brings to the gown of her choice," per the event's site. "Judges are instructed to evaluate the contestant, not the dress she is wearing."
While having previous pageant experience will only benefit a contestant, it isn't required to participate in Miss Maine USA. "No previous pageant experience is necessary," the organization's website reads.
While Miss Maine USA has common rounds like swimsuit and evening gown, it does not have a talent round like other pageants.

Box Office: ‘Superman' Flies to $217 Globally, ‘Jurassic World Rebirth' Crosses $500 Million, ‘Lilo & Stitch' Hits $994 Million

'Superman' ruled the box office as the comic book adventure touched down with $217 million globally. That breakdown includes $95 million overseas and $122 million domestically. Attendance was slightly softer than expected at the international box office, though box office watchers believe that's partially due to Superman's deeply patriotic roots. His motto, after all, is 'Truth, justice and the American way.' More from Variety How 'Superman' Inspired a Movie-Review War: When Is It Fair to Say That Too Much Fun Is No Fun at All? 'Superman' Soars to $122 Million, Third-Biggest Box Office Opening Weekend of 2025 'Superman' Star David Corenswet Recalls Getting 'Wildest Bruise' on His Groin During 'Epic' Flying Scene: 'There's Footage From Filming' 'Superman has always been identified as a quintessentially American character and story,' says David A. Gross, who runs the FranchiseRe movie consulting firm. 'And in some parts of the world, America is currently not enjoying its greatest popularity.' James Gunn directed the well-reviewed 'Superman,' starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. In the new movie, the optimistic hero is trying to prove to the world that he's fighting for good after the evil tech billionaire Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) attempts to public opinion against him. The $225 million-budgeted film marks an important reset in the Warner Bros.-backed DC Universe. After its last iteration of superhero movies flamed out with 'The Flash,' 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' and others, Gunn and Peter Safran were hired in 2022 to overhaul DC Studios. They have outlined a 10-year-plan of interconnected stories and spinoffs, including 'Supergirl' and 'Clayface' in 2026. Global appeal will be key in the franchise's big screen longevity. In the case of 'Superman,' top-earning territories were the United Kingdom with $9.8 million, Mexico with $8.8 million, Brazil with $5.9 million and Australia with $5.3 million. The film bombed in China, earning just $6.6 million in its opening weekend. By comparison, 'Jurassic World Rebirth' opened last weekend in China with $25 million. In second place on international charts, Universal's 'Jurassic World Rebirth' collected $68 million from 82 overseas markets in its sophomore outing. Those ticket sales boost the dinosaur adventure's international tally to $297 million. 'Jurassic World Rebirth,' which rebooted the decades-old property with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, has crossed the $500 million milestone globally with $529 million to date. Third place went to 'F1: The Movie,' which added $38.5 million overseas and $51.5 million in its third lap around the track. The Apple Studios racing drama, starring Brad Pitt, is impressively nearing $400 million worldwide. Revenues currently stand at $257 million overseas and $393 million globally, strengthening its position as Apple's highest grossing movie to date. In other box office news, Disney's 'Lilo & Stitch' is moments away from becoming the year's first billion-dollar release. The live-action remake has become hugely profitable, generating $579 million overseas and $994 million globally after eight weeks on the big screen. That's a relief for Disney because another big-budget offering, Pixar's 'Elio,' is cratering with $53 million internationally and $117 million worldwide. Despite positive reviews, the $150 million-budgeted film will end its theatrical run as a major money loser for the studio. The One Dinner Party Mistake Ina Garten Says Guests Make Too Often

While a dinner party often makes for a lovely evening with friends or business partners, there are some etiquette mistakes you should avoid. For instance, you don't want to be the one to make things awkward with an inappropriately timed or themed gift. This was the topic of discussion for professional cook and cookbook author Ina Garten and journalist Willie Geist during a live Sunday Sitdown on "Today." At one point in the interview, Geist emphasized that dinner party guests should not bring "a gift that messes with the plan of the evening," and Garten agreed. The "Barefoot Contessa" noted, for example, that there are certain kinds of foods you shouldn't take to the party. You also don't want to inconvenience the host by giving them like flowers without a vase. Garten told Geist, "There are two things that I don't think you should ever bring to a dinner party, and they're so common, is something that the host feels like they should serve. I mean, starting with, like, Jell-O salad. What are you going to do with that?" She added that any flowers should be brought in their own vase so that the host doesn't have to fuss about locating a container while other guests are arriving and need to be greeted. This can create unnecessary stress. Read more: We Asked 14 Celeb Chefs How They Order Their Steak In a video posted on Instagram, Ina Garten emphasized that when you show up at a dinner party with food as a present, it should be "something that they'll enjoy another time." This allows the host to keep the food they're serving cohesive and controlled while still showing your appreciation for having you over. The examples she provided include homemade granola, tea or coffee, or Fran's Chocolates, a brand also beloved by chef Bobby Flay. Of course, other food experts may have different ideas on the perfect dinner party gift. For instance, in an interview with Food and Wine, Martha Stewart said she likes to bring a carton of fresh eggs to a dinner party. While certainly distinct from Garten's suggestions, it does still fall in line with the Barefoot Contessa's rule that it shouldn't be an item the host needs to serve. Those eggs can be used to cook up a different dish later. You could also consider trying some of our top picks for dinner party gifts you don't need to cook.
