From stock tips to astro tips! Sanjiv Bhasin turned astrologer before Sebi ban
IIFL Securities
and a household name among stock tip enthusiasts, had started dishing out astrology-based life advice on social media — just months before the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) barred him in a high-stakes pump-and-dump case.
SEBI's ex-parte interim order, issued Tuesday, accuses Bhasin and 11 others of manipulating stock prices by front-running — buying shares ahead of his televised recommendations and selling them at a profit once the retail herd piled in. The regulator has ordered the disgorgement of Rs 11.37 crore in alleged ill-got gains.

After SEBI conducted search and seizure operations at multiple locations linked to Bhasin in the National Capital Region on June 13–14, 2024, he quietly exited IIFL. Then came the reinvention: Bhasin resurfaced on social media not as a market veteran, but as a self-styled astrologer.
'Mars to enter Leo tomorrow after almost 9 months, could be the big change you were looking forward to,' reads one of his more recent posts on X, where he commands a follower base of over 322,000. His X account is now labelled with titles like 'Market Guru, Mundane Astrology, Fate & Freewill, Sense & Sensibility.' Bhasin offers consultations on relationships, careers, and investments through the lens of planetary alignments.

He even ventured into geopolitical clairvoyance, predicting civil unrest and splits in Pakistan by end-May based on its national horoscope. The forecast, obviously, didn't come true.

Sebi bars Sanjiv Bhasin and 11 others for alleged stock manipulation
Back in the real world, SEBI's investigation paints a damning picture. The regulator uncovered WhatsApp chats and audio files that allegedly reveal Bhasin's modus operandi: he would buy stocks in advance, then plug them on national television and Telegram groups, leading to a spike in prices. Once retail investors jumped in, Bhasin would quickly exit, booking profits in a classic "buy today, sell tomorrow" strategy.
'These trades prima facie show that Sanjiv Bhasin was not genuine about his recommendations,' SEBI said in the order. 'Investors would have invested their hard-earned money believing the advice to be research-backed, only to be deceived.'
In perhaps its strongest rebuke in recent times, the regulator said, 'SEBI cannot remain a mute spectator when fraudulent and manipulative activities take place in the securities market by personalities who are actually revered… and have a huge following on social media platforms.'
For now, the man who once moved stocks with his TV picks is watching Mars, not midcaps. But with SEBI's eye firmly trained on influencer-led manipulation, it's clear that no amount of astrological deflection will soften the consequences.

Gold prices may be volatile as Trump's tariff deadline approaches: Analysts
Gold prices may see heightened volatility in the coming week as investors track a crucial July 9 tariff deadline, policy signals from major central banks, including the US Federal Reserve, and key global macroeconomic data, analysts said. "These factors could influence the near-term trajectory of gold prices," analysts said, adding that traders are expected to remain cautious ahead of any major policy cues or geopolitical developments. The 90-day suspension of Trump tariffs on imports from several countries, including India, ends on July 9, reviving the risk of a 26 per cent additional duty on Indian goods entering the US. "Going ahead, the focus will be on the interest rate cuts by key central banks, especially US Fed Reserve, the outcome of trade negotiation between US and its trading partners, incoming global economic data, which could impact the near-term gold prices," Pranav Mer, Vice President, EBG, Commodity & Currency Research at JM Financial Services Ltd, said. Investors will also closely monitor the release of the US Fed's FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) meeting minutes. Last week, the precious metal futures for August delivery rose Rs 1,563, or 1.61 per cent, on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). N S Ramaswamy, Head of Commodities Desk and CRM at Ventura, said gold prices in the international market, currently at USD 3,345 per ounce, could remain under selling pressure due to the solid US macroeconomic data that dented hopes of a July interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve. Despite some corrective rallies, Ramaswamy stated that "the short-term outlook favours consolidation and corrective upward movements, followed by a likely continuation of the broader downward trend". Ramaswamy, however, said fiscal deficit worries in the US and impending Trump tariffs decision could trigger fresh volatility and lift demand for the yellow metal. Central banks added a net 20 tonnes of gold to global gold reserves in May, he said. Prathamesh Mallya, DVP, Research, Non-Agri Commodities and Currencies at Angel One, said gold prices continue to be supported by a weakening US dollar and ongoing geopolitical concerns. "Dollar weakness has been a key part of gold prices rising in 2024 as well as in 2025. This trend will continue for the rest of the year," Mallya said. Meanwhile, JM Financial's Pranav Mer also pointed to persistent central bank purchases, and increased retail and institutional investments via ETFs as factors bolstering the long-term bullish case for gold prices.

Adani NCD issue: Adani Enterprises launches Rs 1,000 crore NCD offer at 9.3% yield, aims to repay debt
Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), the flagship company of the Gautam Adani-led conglomerate, has announced a public issue of secured, rated, listed, redeemable non-convertible debentures (NCDs) worth up to Rs 1,000 crore, offering yields of up to 9.3% per annum. The NCD issue, which opens for subscription on July 9 and closes on July 22, marks AEL's second such offering to the public. The base issue size is Rs 500 crore, with a green-shoe option to retain oversubscription up to an additional Rs 500 crore, PTI reported. In a statement on Sunday, AEL said the NCDs will be available in tenors of 24, 36 and 60 months, and will offer a range of interest payment options including quarterly, annual, and cumulative structures across eight series. Each NCD has a face value of Rs 1,000, with a minimum application requirement of Rs 10,000. "This new issuance follows the strong market response to AEL's debut NCD offering, which witnessed capital appreciation for debt investors after a rating upgrade within six months — reflecting the group's consistent delivery and financial robustness," said Jugeshinder 'Robbie' Singh, Group CFO, Adani Group. "As the incubator of India's most critical energy and transport utility platforms — including Adani Ports & SEZ, Adani Energy Solutions, Adani Power, and Adani Green Energy — AEL is successfully scaling the next generation of infrastructure businesses across airports, roads, data centres, and the green hydrogen ecosystem," Singh added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The proceeds from the issue will be used primarily for debt repayment, with at least 75% earmarked for prepayment or repayment of existing borrowings, and up to 25% for general corporate purposes, the company said. AEL's latest offering comes amid a softening interest rate cycle, offering retail and non-institutional investors a relatively high fixed-income alternative. According to the company, the NCDs are priced competitively when compared with similarly rated debt and fixed deposits. The NCDs have been rated 'CARE AA-; Stable' by CARE Ratings and '[ICRA]AA- (Stable)' by ICRA. CARE Ratings had first upgraded AEL's credit rating in February 2025 and reaffirmed it in June 2025, while ICRA assigned its rating in March and reaffirmed it last month. Instruments with this rating are considered to carry a high degree of safety regarding timely servicing of financial obligations and very low credit risk. AEL's first public NCD issue in September 2024 — a Rs 800 crore offering — was fully subscribed on day one. The company claims it remains the only non-NBFC corporate offering listed debt products tailored for retail investors. The lead managers for the issue are Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd, Trust Investment Advisors Pvt Ltd and Tipsons Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to inaugurate Controllers' Conference 2025 on July 7
New Delhi [India], July 6(ANI): The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) will host the Controllers' Conference 2025 from July 7 to 9 at the Dr SK Kothari Auditorium, DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi. The conference will be inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on July 7, in the presence of top military and civilian leadership including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the three service chiefs, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Financial Adviser (Defence Services), S G Dastidar, and Controller General of Defence Accounts Mayank Sharma, marking it as a key platform for shaping the future of India's defence financial architecture said Ministry of Defence. A flagship forum for policy dialogue, strategic review, and institutional innovation, the Controllers' Conference brings together top leadership from DAD, the civil service, academia, think tanks, and stakeholders across the defence and finance sectors. It serves as a vital platform for evaluating challenges, initiating reform, and advancing the role of financial governance in defence preparedness. The theme of this year's conference, 'Transforming Financial Advice, Payment, Audit and Accounting through Defence Finance and Economics,' reflects a paradigm shift within the department, repositioning DAD from a finance & accounts body to a future-ready institution focused on Defence Finance and Economics. This transformation, guided by the strategic vision articulated by the Raksha Mantri on October 01, 2024, is internally driven, inclusive, and aligned with emerging national security imperatives. The transition is anchored in DAD's new mission statement and Motto 'Alert, Agile, Adaptive' which will be formally released during the event. The conference will feature eight high-level business sessions (Manan Satras), covering areas such as budget and accounts reform, internal audit restructuring, collaborative research, pricing innovation, and capacity building. These sessions will explore the evolving role of Integrated Financial Advisors (IFAs) in balancing fiscal prudence with strategic support for a competitive and self-reliant defence industry. Managing a defence budget of Rs 26.8 lakh crore, including Rs 1.7 lakh crore dedicated to pensions, DAD plays a pivotal role in payroll, pension disbursement, audit, procurement pricing, and strategic financial advice. The MoD statement stated that over the past year, the department has made significant strides in digital transformation, with flagship reforms such as 'SAMPURNA': an AI-driven, end-to-end automation system for defence procurement and payments, which enhances transparency and agility. 'SPARSH' is now serving over 32 lakh pensioners. This digital platform has redefined pension delivery with transparency and accessibility. 'SPARSH VAN', a mobile outreach innovation launched in Tamil Nadu, delivering pension services directly to veterans' doorsteps and 'e-Raksha Awaas': Automated recovery of over Rs 500 crore in rent, generating Rs 2,700+ crore in rent bills. Defence Travel System (DTS) and AI-based procurement tools: Building a smarter, data-centric financial network for defence Since the last Controllers' Conference, DAD has conducted 206 outreach programmes and established over 200 service centres across India strengthening last-mile delivery and stakeholder engagement. Training and upskilling remain central to the transformation, with institutions like NADFM Pune and CENTRAD Delhi driving officer education in defence economics, data analytics, and digital resource management. DAD's audit functions are also evolving into advanced Management Information Systems (MIS) that provide early risk indicators, performance benchmarks, and decision-support frameworks. Aligned with the MoD's declaration of 2025 as the Year of Reform, the conference is expected to yield actionable outcomes that will fortify India's defence financial architecture--driven by Atmanirbhar Bharat and committed to maximum governance with minimum government. The deliberations will lay a robust fiscal foundation to strengthen national defence capabilities and ensure that financial systems are agile, responsive, and strategically aligned with India's long-term security goals.
