Tigers' top draft pick hurts hamstring again on return
In a disastrous start to the Tigers' imposing GMHBA Stadium assignment, Lalor limped off the field and was subbed out of the game.
He had tackled Tom Atkins on the outer wing early in the first term, and when Lalor stood up he started limping immediately.
This was his first game since hurting the same hamstring in the round-12 loss to Essendon. Lalor also injured his left hamstring before he was drafted.
The Tigers could have recalled him last week, but deliberately held him back in a bid to make sure he was ready.
Richmond have only won one of their past 15 games at GMHBA Stadium and are trying to pull off a massive upset without key forward Tom Lynch, who has started his five-game suspension.
But the Cats also suffered a pre-game blow, when star on-baller Bailey Smith was a late withdrawal because of illness after he did not train on Friday.

Cameron Smith responds as NRL considers breaking own rules for Wayne Bennett
Cameron Smith says it would be a 'prestigious' honour to be handed the Kangaroos coaching job but he might have to settle for another role, with calls growing louder for Wayne Bennett to get the job. In order for the veteran coach to take charge of the Aussie team, league bosses would have to change a current rule that prevents club coaches from leading the national side. Nine's Michael Chammas revealed on '100% Footy' on Monday night that the ARL Commission will meet on Wednesday to vote on the issue, but claimed it was 'unlikely' they would change the rule. If that's the case, then former Kangaroos captain Smith is a massive chance to succeed Mal Meninga, who stepped down as Australia's mentor after being named inaugural coach of the Perth Bears, who will enter the NRL in 2027. Former NSW coach Brad Fittler was another leading contender but pulled out of the race due to his extensive media commitments with Channel Nine. That leaves Smith and former Maroons and Broncos coach Kevin Walters as the other leading candidates, if Bennett is prevented from taking on the role. And Smith - who played a whopping 56 Tests for Australia and captained the country on numerous occasions - said the appeal of leading the Aussies for this year's end-of-season Ashes series in England would be incredible. "It's huge, isn't it? I grew up watching Ashes tours where Australia would play Great Britain or England," he said. "I never got to play in one, but that's a huge lure to be a part of such a prestigious and historic tour. It hasn't been done for a long, long time - over 20 years - so it would be great to be a part of." Despite being touted as one of the favourites for the job though, Smith says he's yet to be given any clarification from league bosses. "I haven't spoken to anyone about the role as yet. I'm aware that my name has been tossed up as a potential coach," he added. "I do understand though, it's a wonderful opportunity. It's a great privilege to be able to be the coach of our national side, the Kangaroos. I was lucky enough to play for that team many, many times, so it would be a great privilege." If Bennett is allowed to take the role, there have been suggestions that Smith could work as an assistant to the master coach for the Ashes, before eventually taking over ahead of next year's Rugby League World Cup. "I haven't put too much thought into it. As it stands right now, the rules are that club coaches can't be involved," Smith said. "But I'm hearing that they might be discussing that and maybe altering their thoughts on that, which is entirely up to the game and the executives in charge. If that happens, that's great. Wayne Bennett's a wonderful coach. He's probably one of the greatest coaches to ever coach in our game, so if he ends up being the Kangaroos coach, they'll be in good hands." "I can't see why not. I really can't see why not," he said on 100% Footy. "I don't know why it changed back in the old days, they're the best coaches, they're the ones with the best jobs, they're the ones equipped to do it so I can't see why they wouldn't allow it." Last week, veteran journalist Phil Rothfield predicted NRL bosses would break its own rules and allow Bennett to lead the Kangaroos in more of a 'caretaker' role for the Ashes. According to Rothfield, a full-time coach without ties to an NRL club will be appointed after that.

Roosters lose another player to Bulldogs as Phil Gould continues signing raid
Phil Gould and the Bulldogs have reportedly signed another member of the Roosters' premiership-winning SG Ball Cup team, with young outside back Baxter Warner leaving the Bondi club for Belmore. The Roosters won the Under-19 competition earlier this year, but their success has seen a number of rival clubs take interest in their crop of young talent. Cohen Dittmann and Tyson Walker (the younger brother of Roosters star Sam Walker) have been poached by the Cowboys, while Phillip Lavakeiaho has signed with the Sea Eagles. And the that Warner has now joined Mikey Nassar in signing with the Bulldogs. Gould has been working on signing as many talented young players as he can, putting together an impressive pathways system at the Bulldogs. Warner played centre in the Roosters' SG Ball Cup team that won the premiership this year, but can also play fullback and wing. He was selected in the Under-16s NSW City team in 2022, and recently made his debut in the Jersey Flegg (Under-21) competition. Warner is the nephew of Jack Elsegood, who played 72 first-grade games for Manly and 77 for the Roosters. But he's now departed his uncle's former club to link up with Nassar and Gould at the Bulldogs. Nassar previously played Harold Matthews Cup (Under-17s) for the Wests Tigers, before switching to the Roosters and starring in the SG Ball Cup grand final. He played fullback for the Roosters' Under-19 team, but can also play anywhere in the back-line. He's been featuring on the wing in the Bulldogs' system in Ron Massey Cup since making the club switch recently. The 67-year-old coached the Roosters from 1995 to 1999, and is now the general manager of football at the Bulldogs. Since taking on the role at the Bulldogs, he's signed a number of former Roosters players in Sitili Tupouniua, Daniel Suluka-Fifita and Drew Hutchison. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have been urged to make a brutal call on one of Lachie Galvin or Toby Sexton to solve their worrying dip in form. Cameron Ciraldo's side have lost their last two games to slip from first to third on the NRL ladder, and the rotation of Sexton, Galvin and Reed Mahoney doesn't appear to be working. Galvin has been coming off the bench and replacing Sexton in the halves, who switches to hooker when Mahoney goes off. Last week against the Broncos, Ciraldo even shifted Matt Burton to centre to use Galvin and Sexton in the halves. But after back-to-back losses, former Bulldogs player Michael Ennis believes the coach needs to change the plan. According to Ennis, the Dogs might be better off keeping Galvin in reserve grade until next year when Sexton moves to France. 'What they do with Galvin, he's either on the bench or playing in reserve grade … that's the decision they have to make at the moment," Ennis said last weekend. "Ideally, Galvin comes in the pre-season and they get a full pre-season to develop him. That's not the case, he's walked into a side that's leading the competition with Sexton and Burton in great form as the halves pairing. 'Reed Mahoney and Bailey Haywood compliment each other around the ruck. That spine is so stable, the game plan they look to execute, they execute it.' However Andrew Johns and Cameron Smith believe Sexton might be the man axed and forced to play NSW Cup. Sexton has been brilliant this season and led the Bulldogs to the top of the ladder at the halfway point, but has effectively been forced out by the mid-season signing of Galvin from the Wests Tigers.
